So a couple of months ago I was consulting for a client and looking at a possible sponsorship opportunity with the NHL's Florida Panthers down here in S. Florida.   The representative I dealt with in the Panther's Business Office was Brandon Lott, former NCC player and alum.

Going to try and get him to come up and watch the game with some Bash folk at a sports bar near my house that lets me hook my laptop up to a 60" big screen.....  Anyone on here know Brandon?
I played with B-Lott! Super nice kid. I think he was 08 or 09. He was an undersized o-lineman who worked his tail off and would do anything to help anyone who needed it. Liked to wear t-shirt sleeves on his head and chase after loose change on the ground. Lol. I haven't talked to him in ages! Glad to hear he's doing well.

Brandon is awesome! I graduated with him in 09. I totally forgot about the T-shirt sleeve thing! Super awesome young man, and NT is right he would do anything for anyone at anytime. I remember him also telling me that when he has a kid, no matter if it's a boy or girl that he is naming it "Parking". I think I fell onto the dining hall floor when he told me that.

Just thinking about that 06 Capital game brings back bad memories. I really thought we were going to do well against them with the way we played against them in 05. Their DBs were VERY good and VERY fast and just killed us all day. And then we had to wait about 3 hours after the game for the NCAA to finish the "random" drug testing! I only say "random" b/c they took out QB, stud WR, DB, DL, OL and then our kicker! HA

USee, thanks for doing all that research. However, you did forget the two games NCC played in 2006. The 35-6 W against Concordia (Wis.) and the 41-13 L against Capital

As far as the postseason, here are my thoughts:

NCC will not lose to anyone outside of the purple powers. I have seen UWW and Mt Union play live close to 20 times in the postseason so I have a pretty good understanding of what they are about. I think North Central has a championship caliber defense. Teams are really going to struggle moving the ball and scoring points against them. They have a championship caliber special teams unit. Their kickers are very good and consistent, their talent on the coverage units is deep, fast and exceptional. Their running game is very good. They have big, athletic linememan and multiple powerful, fast backs. Their receiving corps is diverse and deep.

I think they have issues at the quarterback position. Contrary to what I have seen written on here, they are worse at qb than last year, not better. Tyler Dicken is going to be a great qb. He throws a great ball, is tall and strong and athletic. But right now he is a freshman and plays like one. He locks in on the primary receiver as soon as he takes the snap. He throws a great ball and, if his receiver is open or his receiver is a better athlete, he gets a completion. He just isn't yet anywhere near an Aaron Fanthorpe, Kam Kniss, Matt Blanchard, etc. Good defenses that can defend the run and read the qb's eyes will make it very difficult for NCC to score without big plays (which they are very capable of creating). I'll try and give a few examples shortly.

USee, I totally agree with you about Dicken. He will be a great QB at NCC he's just not quite there yet. This offense can be very difficult to pick up especially for a freshman and REALLY especially at the QB position. For the longer passing plays (ones that take more time to develop) there can be anywhere from 2-4 keys that the QB has to read before throwing the ball. I'm sure Jeff Thorne is trying to make it as easy as possible with more short pass calls (at least hoping so) and maybe only giving Dicken one key to read, hence "locking on." He will have to be able to read more of the defense when it comes to the playoffs.

Haven't been on here in a while but I thought I would chime in on the games this year with it getting much closer to the season wrapping up. I have seen NCC several times this year and I would say that there are some concerns. Their defense is playing lights out and will always keep them in the game. I do wonder about their offense however. I know that they are starting a freshman at QB which is tough in general but especially in that offense. All you need to do is score more than the other team to win, but they will have to figure out their chemistry if they are going to make it past the 2 purple people eaters. I am not totallly worried as their running game is strong but once the passing game gets figured out a little bit more then I think they can really challenge the top 2.

Go Cards!

Good point.  You make a strong case for a backup case in case it is the case that bars don't open until 11.  I think i'll even bring a case to back up my back up case just in case.

How about the Triple Take projections, unanimous across the board.  I would have thought there would be opposite picks in 3 of the 4 games.

Have any of the D3 guys seen NCC play this year?

Not 100% sure, but I believe Keith has seen them this year. Not too sure about the other two.

I'm hoping that Ken Massey's computer is a better prognosticator than Ryan, Pat, or Keith!

While I am hoping that proves true, this is one of the biggest reasons why I think computers should have no input on football. I really just don't think that NCC would be UW-W 71% of the time. I have been reminding myself of the Little Giants halftime speech Rick Moranis gives his team. "One time!"

413, There are so many to choose from. NCC is less than 5 min. walking distance from downtown Naperville which has a ton of places to go. I would stay away from The Lantern as that is where many NCC people go. You have Jimmy's (across the street from The Lantern), Quigley's, Grumpy Bulldog, and more.

I would say that probably Quigley's would be open the earliest out of those listed. From the parking deck you would want to go north (or turn right  :) ) out of the parking lot on Brainard to Jefferson Ave. Turn left on Jefferson and Quigley's is down the hill on your right.

Here is the link to the campus map again, http://northcentralcollege.edu/x8880.xml,
and the campus is not very large so I would say its about a 5-7 min. walk from the parking deck to Quigley's.

To go off of what Gator said, the O-line will huddle while subs are put in, packages, etc. while the rest of the offense is getting set. Think Oregon/Northwestern style of spread option team.

413, the NCC tailgaters also have to deal with the elements. It will be a true test to see who the best of the best are!  :D

413, The upper lot is kind of at ground level and in the air as the parking deck is in a hill. It might be hard to picture right now but it will make more sense when you get there. There are several buildings around so they might break the wind.

FF413, the upper lot is completely exposed to the elements. The only cover anyone would have is in the lower lot of the parking deck but I don't think they allow any tailgating down there (or firepits in general but I am not sure).

I also doubt you would be able to be "undercover" as the NCC tailgaters know who shows up a on week by week basis. Although you might be able to try what Bobby Valentine did when he was managing the Mets!  ;D

No, I really doubt NCC has the depth that UW-W does, and I would expect to see more rotations on the defensive side of the ball than offensively. As the article points out, NCC does a lot of rotating with the defensive line. They do a little bit with their linebackers and DBs (although not very much). On the offensive side of the ball, they have at least 3 capable running backs in the game at any point, but Tassio and Kukuc get most of the time.

I have really noticed how much the rotation has helped NCC this year, especially on the DL. Hayes and Garza seem so fresh and quick in the 4th quarter that the bigger OL, just can't keep up with them any more. It's really good to see.

Stagg, completely agree with your assessment of the NCC offense. A couple of pages ago, I pointed out that this years NCC offense is in the top 10 in just about every category for season totals. The big element that you brought up that I think has helped them out is controlling the TOP and frustrating defenses with that. In years past, it was much more of an up tempo attack with an emphasis on scoring quickly and often. Coach (Jeff) Thorne's goals for us when I was playing was 300 yds passing, 200 yds rushing and 40 points. Not sure if he still talks about that but I am willing to bet he does.

USee and SOT, thanks for the welcome. SOT, I did not DIRECTLY play against you seeing as I was also an offensive player. I do remember you though. I was a WR and played some special teams, more special teams than seeing time as a WR.

Hey everybody, I am a first time poster but a long time reader of these boards. I played for NCC a couple years ago and I feel like I have to say something about this years offense for NCC. While their stats may not appear as good as they have in years past nationlally, their offense is still one of the best in school history. This offense has had the most yards in a season with just over 5,000; most rushing yards in a season; 6th most passing yards; 2nd most total points; and is in the top 5 in rushing TDs, passing TDs, Field Goals and Total TDs.

Remember that this NCC team this year has still only played 12 games, as many games as the 06, 07 and 08 teams. What I feel this offense does lack though is a big time playmaker that can just take over a game. In previous years, it was either Fanthorpe, Kniss, Spencer, Studemann, Sulo, etc. This offense is much more geared towards chugging down the field, draining the clock and being much more patient than in years past. Do I think that they can beat UW-W? Anything is possible, but it will be difficult. So, while the NCAA stats may not show it, this is still a good offense.
