Only silver lining for me was that Carson Horton came in and played late in the game at QB and looked like far and away the best QB on our roster. Regardless of what happens the rest of the year I hope he sticks around, was very encouraged by his play today. Unfortunately he limped off late in the 4th and appeared to have a hamstring strain or something, when it rains it pours...

Quote from: zipmac22 on October 10, 2025, 06:57:25 PMI see that Kirkland Michaux is starting QB Saturday against Hardin Simmons. Has Coach Harmon made any reference as to why Michaux is still the starting QB? I think that Seth Mouser has shown that he is the better choice for the starting QB. If not Mouser, there has to be another QB in the QB stable (there are 8 QB's including Michaux and Mouser on the roster) that are biting at the bit to show what they can do. At this point I don't think the other 6 QB could do any worse.

It's worth noting there were no changes from the 2 - deep vs ETBU.. if we were going to make a change, which does feel like a possibility after Michaux's lack of production, maybe we wouldn't want to give that away before our biggest game of the season. At least I'm hoping that is the case.

Making the trip to windy Abilene on Saturday, it's a big one!

Good things from the ETBU game:

We rebounded and found some mojo/energy after a very flat first half. Good to see that and both sides of the ball played better in the second half.

The run game had a great day.

Bad things from ETBU game:

We started flat in a must win situation, why are we starting flat? That's frustrating.

The run game was good today vs a very bad ETBU defense but if we can't complete basic forward passes (not bubble screens) I can assure you the run game is right back where we were the last 3 weeks vs Hardin Simmons, you have to be able to pass a little to open up the box.

Lastly, we saw two new outside WR's in the game today that both looked like upgrades #81 and #86 both transfers that were actually creating some separation. Also Will McClintock was starting today at tight end and it's always great to have a huge guy at tight end, made a few nice catches and looked good in the blocking game.

Quote from: UMHB03 on September 27, 2025, 05:33:35 PMThe penalties and overall lack of discipline on this team (and all of Harmon's teams) are absolutely unacceptable.

If you are using penalties as an indicator of lack of discipline on "all of Harmon's teams," you might want to pick a new metric. In his 24 seasons at the helm, Pete Fredenberg's teams averaged 67.0 yds/game in penalties. In Harmon's three complete seasons, his teams have averaged 57.7.

Good stat! That honestly surprises me a little but I think it's the unsportsmanlike penalties that we've seen an uptick in that are a little concerning. Those have definitely gone up, someone posted the actual numbers as of las season it was like a 150% increase.

Quote from: Ron Boerger on September 27, 2025, 06:53:16 PMETBU's "4-0" is smoke and mirrors.  Lyon is terrible (don't be fooled by today's result against another mediocre despite their record team, Westminster), Centenary isn't much better, and they barely squeaked past a 1-3 TLU team that lost its QB1 in week 1 and now starts a freshman.

Fair enough, but if we play how we did today and last week offensively we likely aren't scoring enough points to win at ETBU.

Wildest thing about this year's group (much like last year) is that we are a good QB away from being a very dangerous team!!

I've seen enough from Michaux unfortunately I don't think he's the guy. I know he was a good high school player and spent time in the B10 for Illinois and played in spring games etc but some people are gamers and some are not. We've got to play at (4-0) ETBU a week from today and we probably can't lose another game if we want to get into the playoffs. I have to imagine someone else trots out and gets an opportunity at QB next week. Mouser? Horton? Someone young that we don't know about maybe, idk. Someone on this roster has got more to offer than what we've seen, we need a gamer.

I know anything outside of D3 opponents doesn't count towards your playoff resume but this is a very important game today imo. ANYTIME you lose a football game at UMHB the next game needs to be a statement, that's how it's always been and that's what teams with legit championship aspirations do, they respond!

Both of the major small college metrics (MASSEY and Hansen) have UMHB as a +4 or +5 point road underdog. REGARDLESS of the final score we HAVE to see wall to wall intensity and effort for 4 QTRs... the final score we can work with but gotta have the effort or I have major concerns for our season. Let's see what happens, go get 'em CRU.

I am not in complete panic mode, personally. I'm not happy with how we looked Saturday but I still think this is our best roster in a while, so I'm optimistic we can learn from that performance.

Defense was on the field the entire game and got warn down, but also must have had 9 guys on and off the field with injuries, that doesn't help.

Offense is clearly the bigger issue. When the QB made a decent throw we'd drop a walk in touch down, when receivers did play well QB was missing them. Just not cohesive in any way on offense. Kind of wonder if we open up the QB battle and see what the other guys (Mouser and Horton) have got. Nothing to lose this week against a D2 opponent, doesn't help or hurt our playoff standing.

Great to see Da'Marion Morris back on the depth chart for the Cru. Dude is a monster at safety.

Quote from: badgerwarhawk on September 13, 2025, 05:31:09 PMWARHAWKS win easily over NAIA Saint Xavier 37-0.  Xavier's defense played to stop the run and had some success holding the WARHAWKS to 110 yards rushing on 39 attempts (10:QB). Klinkner had a solid day going 20/24, 243 yds, 3 tds and completing passes to 10 different receivers. This was a good day in his development. He completed passes on and off platform, under duress and  spread the ball around.

I wasn't able to see the game today, but the passing stats look great. Glad to see the Warhawks working both aspects of the game. Big matchup coming up. Looking forward to it.

Same. Wasn't able to watch, but was pleasantly surprised to see the stats. Efficient and productive.

I'm not going to get too excited...yet.

Check in Saturday night.  8-)

Oh, I will. UMHB is always stacked with speed, but I think their inexperience on the interior of their line will make a big difference. If they can't stop the run, they won't stop UWW.

I honestly couldn't agree more. Our secondary is stacked, edge and pass rush looked great and LB's are fast... the BIGGEST question mark is if we are good enough two deep inside to slow down a big offensive line and great run game. That's the area we'll all be watching, for sure.

Quote from: Crubacker on September 12, 2025, 11:05:03 AMI see Will Mclintock is back on the roster-----said he was out 2024 due to injury.  Another big receiving target back

Great news!  Iirc he showed flashes of brilliance at TE. We don't throw to them much, and in last week's game pretty sure Tyler Woods got most of the snaps at H-Back/TE.  Don't think we targeted him once that I can recall.

Coach Lee used our tight ends a lot and very effectively during his first tenure as OC. You are right I don't think Woods got targeted once vs Bethel but that was mostly because we almost didn't throw a forward pass in the second half. Kind of felt like Lee was trying to protect Michaux after those two first half picks.
Agree that McClintock should be a terrific addition. Funny how we remember things--the Cru actually threw 25 passes in the first half of the game and 21 in the second.

I didn't phrase that very well. Yes we threw the ball in the 2H, what I was getting at is we didn't throw the ball down the field much - mostly quick game, even on BJ Stewart's long TD was off a quick bubble. Only time we threw up the field was when we were forced into third and longs and even ran the ball on some of those.

I'm not complaining, just an observation. I published a thread on twitter stating how high I am on this year's roster, so I am very happy with our team after week 1!
