Quote from: CruFrenzy on April 28, 2025, 05:19:17 PMI didn't say he lead the nation in passing yards. But there's a case to be made.

Top 5 best QBs in NO PARTICULAR order from 2024

Zac Boyes - Cortland State
Syverson - SJU
Luke Lehnen- NCC
Kaden Brown - ETBU
Simptimphelter - John Carroll
I wonder how he would have done with the supporting cast that Luke Lehren or Zac Boyes had.

Or if he had just had a few more passing attempts. He had 250 attempts compared to most of these others that had 300 and 400+. With the exception of Lehnen who seemingly threw a TD on every attempt  ;D

Quote from: Ron Boerger on April 26, 2025, 02:51:41 PMFormer ETBU QB Kaden Brown is back in the portal after concluding spring practice at La Tech.  Good grief.

Word at the rumor mill is there is mutual interest between UMHB and Brown... wouldn't that be a turn of events.

Would be fascinating to see what coach Lee could do with Mouser AND Kaden Brown, who may have been the best QB in D3 football last season.

Getting the Bethel (TN) game set is really solid for me. I know they're NAIA but from a team building/experience standpoint it will be a fantastic opportunity for our guys to get their lick back and against a top 10 caliber NAIA team nonetheless.

The UTRGV concept is interesting, they'd probably make us travel to Edinburg (6 hour road trip) but we would likely win that game vs a first year FCS team. Either way that's probably going to remain a hypothetical - the idea is intriguing but I don't think it's likely to happen.

Quote from: CruFrenzy on April 05, 2025, 05:32:49 PM-Spring ball QB battle update-

Three guys battling for the job.

Jake Wright still technically #1 on the depth chart which is fair because he was our QB1 second half of the year and acquired some playoff experience. No issue with it being his job to lose - I think that is a fair approach from coach Lee.

The other two guys fighting for the job are Seth Mouser, former 3 star UTEP/Juco transfer and Reggie Moody Jr.

Mouser is 6'6" and mobile and was the highest rated JUCO transfer in all of Division 3 according to 247 sports & AthLinkd database.

Reggie Moody is a 5'11 dual threat improviser from Red Oak, he was one of the best high school QB recruits I've seen us get in 5-10 years. Reminds me of Vernon Adams Jr a bit, if anyone remembers him from Eastern Washington/Oregon.

Looks like QB1 will be in good hands next season.. excited to see how it unfolds.
Mouser is a fascinating prospect, and he seems to have all the tools. But Moody is lightning in a bottle. Maybe the best dual-threat QB I've seen in a Cru jersey since Blake Jackson.

Rev,

My thoughts exactly. Between those two guys there is more potential we've seen at the QB position in a VERY long time. I realize comparing a D3 kid to Vernon Adams is high praise to say the least but I am not exaggerating, kid could be an all timer.

Then you've got Mouser, legit FBS caliber arm and frame at 6'6".

Very exciting position battle to watch, even more so now with coach Lee back.

Yes, last I heard he is still with the program and intends on returning to the field when healthy.

His knee injury was late August/early September of '24 though, which would mean he wouldn't even really be anywhere near returning until this upcoming fall. When he's back, there's another crazy talented guy in the mix.

I will say based on what I've seen from Mouser and Moody it might be a rather difficult job to take by the time the fall gets here. Either way, we have no shortage of talent at QB which is not a bad problem to have!

Quote from: Etchglow on January 13, 2025, 09:31:04 PMUMHB picks up transfer from 6'6" QB from UTEP/Kilgore College Seth Mouser:

Coach Lee doing coach Lee things already in the portal.

Mouser looks good... 6'6" but can move pretty fast and can make all the throws. Played some at Kilgore JUCO and played in spring game and no fall action at UTEP but is certainly a D1 caliber QB.

Was a 2 star by 247 and a 3 star by rivals/espn. Had offers to UTEP and Tulsa out of high school. Looks good, high ceiling.

Quote from: Etchglow on December 26, 2024, 05:26:17 PMInteresting comments on the Instagram post about coach Lee coming back... Kade Renfro posted "let's Ride"

Very, that would seem to mean Renfro is returning for next season. I saw on his profile he was wearing a big knee brace recently, that would explain him disappearing after the early scrimmage.

Knowing coach Lee, he will likely have a guy or two that he plans to bring in at QB also... Lee always had a good eye for gunslingers. Kyle King and Hammack were Lee era transfers.

Quote from: Crubacker on December 26, 2024, 03:47:25 PMYeah, but wondering why he only stayed a year?  Did Padron leave on his own, mutual or did he get let go?  I had heard he put in for the Head Coaching position at Temple High School when Stewart stepped down.

JUCO HC isn't everyone's cup of tea.. I don't blame him.

As for Padron, he was let go. I don't think the school really wanted to make big fuss about it with official press release but from the folks I've talked to yes he was fired.

Quote from: The Third Division on December 26, 2024, 01:20:39 PMPerhaps he was getting sick of having a new job each of the past 3 seasons.

Abilene Christian D1 offensive coordinator(8-4) left to take the head coach job at Cisco JUCO (4-4) and then coached tight ends at Tarleton D1. He wasn't fired from any of those positions for anyone wondering.

Anyone heard anything about candidates for the OC job?

I'm sure there were quite a few applicants.

Quote from: Ron Boerger on December 14, 2024, 10:13:41 PMSo what happened?  Brown left ETBU as soon as he could.

Winning/Playing in a national championship probably would've changed that.
