Quote from: MCScots2013 on October 31, 2025, 01:57:23 PMWhat's the chances of Lynchburg starting a program to keep up with the Joneses?  Higher chance if Averett shuts down?

Lynchburg isn't exactly in the financial position to be adding a football program, plus the optics of adding it would look pretty awful when they keep slashing academic programs, laying off staff, and eliminating entire departments.

Also, don't think SACS would look too kindly on adding football when the school is under accreditation warning for numerous things, one of which is not operating in a "fiscally responsible manner."
And I know some of the people of power/influence in the business office who were at one point at least adamantly opposed to adding football are still there. I suppose their stances could have changed since then, but I doubt it.

I doubt football is even a blip on the radar at the moment.

This probation has not stopped Guilford from fielding a team.

Quote from: thescottharris on October 29, 2025, 10:56:23 AMIf W&L, H-SC, and R-MC wins out with H-SC beating R-MC in the final week, there will be a three-way tie and thus three ODAC champions, per the ODAC manual.

This would be only the second time (1985, 1997) that there would be multiple champions, each also a three-way tie as everyone plays h2h so there's never been a two-way tie for the title.

Was it different in 2008?

https://www.d3football.com/conf/ODAC/2008/standings

Probably because the teams didn't have an equal record against each other in a 4-way tie. Macon and Catholic went 2-1 against the other tied teams while H-SC and E&H went 1-2. So that eliminated H-SC and E&H from the picture. That made it a two-way h2h tiebreaker between Macon and Catholic, and since Macon beat Catholic, Macon got the title.

If H-SC, W&L, and R-MC all finish with one loss in the proposed scenario, they all would have gone 1-1 against each other, so the h2h tiebreaker wouldn't solve anything.

For determining an ODAC Champion in a sport where there is no tournament or title game (which is only football), h2h is the only tiebreaker. At least that is the case in 2025 rules, I assume that would have been the case in 2008 as well. Hopefully at no point in time was some math formula used to determine an ODAC champion!

Here's the rule right from the ODAC handbook.

Conference Champion

The regular season Conference standings shall determine the Conference Champion.
1. In the case of a two-way tie, the "ODAC Tie-Breaking System" included under "General
Procedures Governing Intercollegiate Competition" in this manual will be used. The head-to-head
game score will be used to establish a winner. If three teams are tied, the team, which
has defeated the other two, becomes champion.

2.If the first step does not break the tie, the three teams tied will advance to the ODAC Five-Point
Tie Breaking Procedure. If a tie still exists, each team will be compared to the teams above
and below them in the standings (record vs. #1, record vs. #2, record vs. #5, record vs. #6).
In the event the teams are still tied, point differential (no cap) between the teams tied will serve
as the next step. The team with the best point differential will advance. If two teams' points are
equal, the head-to-head contest between the two will determine the advancing team.

If following the point differential teams are still tied, the conference will invoke the "Rose Bowl
Rule" which calls for the team that has not been to NCAA post season most recently to
advance to NCAA play that year.

Not many people outside of Farmville would have thought HSC would be 3-0. They're improving each week. They're a young team and fun to watch. Well worth the $20.00 charged by Flo!

$20 bucks?  That's a bargain. Money much better spent than watching anything on Netflix. If only a few bucks goes back to the schools then that's a few bucks more than they got before. I went to one football game last year in person. I spent more than $240.00 on the hotel room alone. I did watch every other football game and several basketball games online. I don't anticipate any changes to my viewing habits in the years to come.

I have no issue paying a few bucks to watch a game with favorite team. Honestly, I doubt many parents will either. If the production quality is better it will make the game more enjoyable. If it's the same quality as it has been I still don't mind. It's a very small price to pay for the ability to watch a game.

I would not argue with putting HSC into the second tier. They are most likely the youngest team in the ODAC. In today's win against Bridgewater, HSC started 3 freshmen on offense and 3 more on defense. There are 11 freshmen listed in the 2 deep. That's 17 guys with very little experience and all of which are playing key roles on a 5-3 team. Bridgewater by comparison has not a single freshman listed in their 2 deep. Ferrum was a butt whopping but I chalk it up to young players learning how to play college football. My guess is they will be considered an upper tier team in the very near future.

HSC played inspired football from start to finish on HOF weekend. The HOF ceremony took place on Friday evening. Coach Marty Favret, teammates Holton Walker and Nash Nance were inducted into the HSC HOF.

Wes Dodson a long time assistant at HSC has taken the HC position at LeGrange College.

Not the finest moment at Hampden-Sydney:  https://saturdaytradition.com/big-ten-football/oops-diii-football-grounds-crew-runs-over-goal-post-forces-one-directional-game/

That is too funny.  As to the grounds crew driver, what year did he graduate from HSC?

He graduated the year before my pizza delivery guy graduated from RMC.

HSC scored 13 points and only 1 second ran off the clock. They scored a FG on an untimed down To make it 17 to 17 at the half. They kicked the game tying FG with 1 second on the clock at the snap. They scored a TD in overtime. Both  FGs came after penalties from WL. The first was a horse collar, the second was a pass interference. It was an amazingly fun game to watch. I watched it online.

Congratulations to Marty Favret - the winningest coach in HSC history.

Congrats, indeed.

A great comeback by W&L to force the OT. Also great work by the Tigers to respond in OT with the TD and PAT. Great win.

WL scored with about 40 seconds to go to take a 3 point lead. HSC kicked a 42 yard FG as time expired to force OT.
