I don't think a freshman has started, but they are receiving regular minutes...Bruns, Moore, and Alfaro.

Carleton's defeat at Carthage last night has me a little puzzled...Carthage outshot Carleton 11-8, 5-3 SOG advantage to Carthage. Off day for the Knights? Regardless, Loras will be their "big" game of the year next to Gustavus and St. Olaf. They'll either come out fired up or find themselves in a deep hole by halftime.
Wasn't at the game but my source tells me that carleton looked horrible. Carthage is just an average team with an average coach so what does that make of carleton. It won't be pretty tomorrow night against Loras. Loras team that I saw last week plays at a different level than carleton.
According to my source Careltons def mid kept on passing backwards to nobody. he also said the outside mids kept dribbling to no where. Forwards were nonexistent. Defense was constantly under pressure until the latter part of 2nd half. I guess the goalie was cool though. Carthage center mid supposedly played very well along with outside mids. Carthage mids won basically every 50 50 ball. careltons outside backs very weak but carthage outside backs not really tested. Might be a massacre at the rock bowel. 5-0 loras.

Despite losing Figura in the back, this Loras defense is going to be rock solid once again.

I know Wartburg brought in a large recruiting class, but how many will make an impact this year?

Circle October 25 on your calendars and book your travel plans...Iowa Conference Championship will come down to that match between Loras and Wartburg in the Rock Bowl.
The recruiting class is just all quantity but short on quality. my source says only the kid from naperville  il is decent. I saw him in state cup and he's quality.
But yep, wartburg will be strong this year. Loras 3 - 0 wartburg in the rock bowel.

Easily could've been 3-1 Loras but it's only preseason but still embarrassing for Drake. Loras defense looked solid already.

Westminster coach is less than half the age of carleton and gac head coaches.
You guys know why some d3 schools give head coaching jobs to someone barely old enough to
drink legally? And you guys know what it takes to take a team of crappy players that you didnt recruit to beat two "power house" teams from the mighty miac
on consecutive days? Just cause you say lad in every other sentence doesnt mean you know soccer. I was wrong, I admit.
I thought the gusties would learn from the carls. Completely and thouroughly out coached.  hats off to andrew and the blue jays.

Not the result I was expecting from the CarlE's. Disappointing. Hopefully GAC can fair better against Westminster that the knights. A trip to the sweet 16 would sure be nice.
Surprised but not surprised. Carlton so disappointing... Totally out muscled and hustled by a team that's barely better than my girls u10 AYSo team. Who coaches carleton clowns... I told you clowns not to let 4 left feet play center mids. and since when mcgrity play midfield? oh wait, he just has no clue how to play fw. Watch zach tomorrow buddy and learn. outside mids don't know how to play outside mids and a play maker that has 4 reverse and 1 sideway moves... how did you win so many games? Oh yeah, cornells and northwestern types... soooo disappointing. I shook my head in disgust. absolutely shameful. Waste of trip to petersburg. Miac champs my as$. Well at least Gustavus will redeem for Miac tomorrow. Gusties 4-0 and ZB with a hat trick.

worst scenario for gac:
carleton beats st oles and then loses to johnnies in penalties.
But no worries. carelton will play same defensive game and end up losing 3-0. hard to play defensive game on a small crappy field that is muddy on the corners and concrete in the middle. so looks like st olaf and gac to ncaa.

Sorry, sounds like a miscommunication. By obvious chances I meant clear-cut scoring opportunities where you would expect the player to score. Perhaps the header, but the long range shot I was certain the keeper had covered regardless. It seemed that Carleton controlled the flow of the first-half, but as I meant - I don't think that they particularly opened up the Olaf defense at will. Neither did Olaf of course, but they did enough to create a couple of clear cut scoring opportunities, which they converted.

I belief that the Oles have too many attacking options for Carleton to shut down this week. Could I be wrong? Of course, but as I said, I'd be surprised. I also don't recall Carleton managing a win at St. Olaf since 2007? It's becoming somewhat of a hoodoo....
Carlton had couple decent chances towards the end of 1st half  but it was all olaf second half. Carleton had  stupid midfield to start the game and finish the game. I  had to go take a leak at half time and was walking by the Oles huddle and heard the coach say they got no midfield so blah, blah, blah. Players who can't control or read the game played 2 center mids. it was so funny watching 4 left feet trying to string a pass or two. CM for olaf was toying with them. He was very very good. Very nice pass to lund for 1 st goal. If youre playing outside back, can't ball watch and let someone sneak behind you like that. Pretty good skills for Miac team I say. If carleton uses the same line up I say St oles 3 - Carleton 0. What the hell are they thinking on the other side of the canon river.

it's a soft schedule. But it's not like there are any tough teams in miac anyway. gac and carleton will both repeat last years fiasco in the  1st round.

I have no idea what carlton was playing yestrday. Their two defensive mids were horrible especailly the freshmen kids who kept on killing opportunities by holding onto the ball too long. Freshmen i understand but dude, this aint no highschool ball. You have to play disciplined. You're defensive mid playing 4-2-3-1. If the other undisciplined defensive mid acts like a center forward, you stay back. Instead, carleton was constantly outnumbered in the middle by more disciplined, compact Gustie mids. Lily was good, bald headed kid was good along with the samurai wanna be kid.
Carleton's center mid, omg,  i don't even know why he's playing. Can't dribble, can't atttack, only pass back or pass laterally. And why is he playing like he's a center forward?  Is Mcgarrity playing center mid? Why is he always on top of his own penalty box. The carleton commentator says Mcgarrity was dribbling like Messi. I had to clean my monitor as I happened to be drinking Ovaltine at that moment. I think the whole carleton soccer team and community are living in fantasy island just cause they had tons of luck last year. Corcoran is a real deal though, but can't do it all on his own.
Zach brown was awesome yesterday. Kid is good. Zach over brandon any day.

keeker, how long have you been a CarlEton fan?

Several years ago my niece went to carleton and played girls soccer so got interested in miac in general.
They say miac is strong but not so sure about that. uaa, iiac, and even cciw seem stronger than miac. This year I woudl've picked st olaf to win the whole thing. Them are  quality side that can play decent soccer. Gac, augsburg, St thomas, and carleton are all below Os.

Caught the wartburg carleton game yesterday. It was so boring that my screensaver saved me from wasting the whole 90 minutes as it came on near the half time and wouldn't turn off.  So only watched first 30 or so minutes of the game, wartburg should have put away carleton early.  Carleton reminds me of vanilla ice cream - nothing exciting, completely bland.  Just pass around a bit here there then, boom, long pass to forwards. Didn't work. So repeat. Didn't work. Repeat. I thought they were suppose to be even better this year. Oh well.
Wartburg is a much improved team from last year but there defenders are not too good. Overall very boring 1st half and i imagine the 2nd half was no different.

Keeker, can you provide some insight of what D3 programs around the Chicago area have beat D1 programs? The last event I heard about was Wheaton vs northwestern and Wheaton fell something like 6-1? Ouch.
Well, not exactly. Was at the game. Iirc, Wheaties had just returned from a mission trip to kenya or congo or something like that just a day before the scrimmage. Nwu had been at it for a couple weeks, d1 soccer. 1st half was even. 2nd half wheaton put 4 or 5 2nd stringers and game started shifting towards nwu's favor. I think nwuwere still at full strength then around 3 or 4 zero nwu also put in scrubs. wheaton was already scrubbing by then. i seem to remember it being pretty boring game overall.

Lenke was a bit player for a lousy d1 team. Chicago area D3 schools always beat them in exhibition. Not all D1 transfers are D1 transfers.

What in the name of sam hill is happening to Macalester? Do they need to bring Barker back?
They looked bad against Wheaton as expected but I thought they would give them a bit of resistance. But nada.
Then it was incredible how inept they were against Augustana giving up all those goals in 5 mins. The frshmen kid looked legit , though. He was quick with good control and movements. Too bad the team sucks.

What's with the hate, keeker? I had no idea that you were in the same let's-dump-on-NPU boat at blue_jays.
No hate what so ever greg. I love north park. A long time ago my best friends wife worked there in the admissions office.  I like the local boy dawood. Probably one of your best dribblers but physically too weak. If he were strong like filip, even though they are both willowy, dawood could contribute a lot more. I think north park has one of the best supporters in all of d3 soccer and it's always fun to watch games at holmgren stadium. I gotta get me a north park id so I can get in free though. In many ways, it's a great experience and "privilege" for players who get to play NPU with its mainly foreign born line up. I'd rather play against teams like NPU than your typical d3 schools where everyone is basically from same high school. D3 soccer needs more teamd like Npu.  Btw, Dennis Persson is the best left back in cciw, better than anthony of wheaton. Look forward to watching him next three years, that is if he doesn't flunk out of his econ classes.
