Quote from: OldAuggie on May 20, 2025, 10:33:01 PMLamker resigned tonight. Hopefully, the new AD can find a coach who will develop a competitive MIAC football program at Augsburg. I will believe it when I see it.
Lamker's five-year record at Augsburg was 21-20.  Has there been an Augsburg coach with a winning record?  Not trying to be a troll, genuinely curious.
I did a quick search, and other than Lamker, who is 21-20, there has never been a coach with a winning record at Augsburg. Jack Osberg is considered the best coach in the history of Auggie football, with the most wins at 62-79.

That is a fair question, and it helps manage expectations for any Auggie fans out there.

Quote from: hazzben on May 02, 2025, 11:59:51 AMSome clarity on Lamker-gate.

Apparently he's on paid administrative leave at Augsburg. Not sure the goal was ever to coach both teams as much as it was he had a window to ensure a landing spot at Osseo. I think he saw the writing on the wall in Minneapolis. But he did try to convince his DC to do the double duty gig initially. So maybe there was a part of him that thought double HC was possible, while at the same time he made sure he had a gig if things played out like he foresaw with his Alma Mater??

Timing sucks for Augsburg. Do you have time to hire the next guy or do you go with an interim for next season? I don't lose any sleep over Augsburg's rising or falling, but they are closer to becoming a Hamline than breaking into the top Tier.

IMO the MIAC has no need for more teams ranked in the bottom 25% of D3 Football. The league is better, and the top teams more battle hardened, when there is a healthy middle 50% of the league that can compete regionally and give the top teams a genuine push on a consistent basis.

I had not logged in for months, but I heard about this happening and thought, "I bet Hazzben has some insight on this." Sure enough, you do! It should be interesting, maybe the new AD has someone in mind for the job.

Augsburg kept the game close until the 4th Quarter. Due to an injury to the starter, the backup QB came in for the Auggies in the 2nd qtr and moved them down the field for a TD but VCS took over in the last half of the 4th qtr and sealed the win with an interception. Iron Sharpens Iron is what the wrestlers say so hopefully this test will sharpen up the Auggies for the rest of the season.

Auggie Wrestling at the Twins game

Here is the post by Augsburg Athletics; Auggie's assistant coach throwing out the first pitch at the Twins game.

I'm just checking in, it looks like all the usual suspects are still contributing. Carry on fellas and let's go  D3!

P4 D1 football is pushing my limits lately.

Quote from: hazzben on March 17, 2024, 07:40:52 PMCongrats to the Auggies and OldAuggie. I knew the 'Burgs were the dominant forces, but I don't follow D3 wrestlings as closely as I (casually) follow D1. Reading the details in the press release are mind boggling:

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE

Quote• Augsburg has now won 15 NCAA Division III national titles in school history (1991, 1993, 1995, 1997, 1998, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2005, 2007, 2010, 2015, 2019, 2023, 2024), tied with Wartburg for the most team titles in Division III. Either Augsburg or Wartburg has won every Division III national title since 1995.
• Augsburg has finished among the top two teams in men's wrestling national competition 29 times since 1975, and has finished among the top 20 teams nationally every year since 1971.
• Augsburg now has 59 men's wrestling national champions in school history -- a record 55 in NCAA Division III competition (since 1983), four in NAIA competition (1968-1983).

That's an insane run of dominance for 2 programs just 3 hours apart.

My youngest is drawn to the mat (vs the hardwood for the older siblings). We had a lot of fun following the Mounds View program this season, and watching the Big 10 and Big 12 tourneys last weekend. We will have to find time to take in some D3 duals this coming season.
Quote from: hazzben on March 19, 2024, 07:59:09 AMYeah, anytime you can say you were a two time collegiate national champ, 2 time greco national champ, made two world teams, and then were the primary trainer who helped Brock Lesner win a heavyweight UFC title, "Grade A bad ass" seems apropos. Gotta think Marty and his brothers are on the short list for families no one wants to mess with.

Wait, wait, wait.  How did I not know this? MV had a great team this year.  Our (Maple Grove) 215-lber lost to Quin Morgan in the finals.
We just got back from the MN/USA Wrestling State Tournament.  We had 2 champs and four 5th place finishers.  Little Duff went 2-2 in a brutal bracket--so proud of him!

Congrats to Little Duff!

Quote from: hazzben on March 17, 2024, 07:58:36 PMFollow up question ... was UWLax expected to be in the mix, or did they get a bump from hosting?
Thanks! Sorry for the delay I have been busy and one day I looked and Post Patterns were down. As far as I know, UW LaCrosse belonged in the Tourney and they do have a very good program. Each wrestler has to win his way to the tourney and I consider UW-L to be competitive each year.

As far as Wartburg and Augsburg wrestlers dominating D3; they wrestle and beat some of the smaller D1 schools in tournaments. Many times there are U of M, U of WI and U of Iowa JV wrestlers in the same tournaments and the Auggies usually hold their own. The Auggies beat the D2 schools on their schedule each year, it seems like D2 and D3 wrestling are close.

I think we can make it until the weekend without turning on the furnace, but not sure if we will make it through the weekend.

Looking at the forecast, I am strongly considering flipping the switch tonight.  :-\
I have been staying/fishing at my cabin on the weekends, heated with wood.

Auggie gets the win today which leads to the greatest controversy in the short history of the MIAC championship game...playing at Edor Nelson field and only having room for about 3,000 spectators.

Clairvoyant.

Apparently not...wants the hell happened to Auggie?
I watched some of the replay; enough to see what was happening, and it looked like Bethel wanted the victory more than the Auggies. Sheehan had no pocket and Bethel ran the ball well.

The wife turned on the furnace the other day. It's not a big deal, I just now turned off the sprinkler system.

I appreciate the experience. Thanks for sharing!

I was up north all last week and this weekend so I could not watch the game. I found it on the MIAC Network channel, watched some of it and I agree. The camera person does need some direction. Please.

Auggies look like they are ready for the Big Dogs of the MIAC.

Auggie Tech beats the GACies on a last-second hail Mary and we're all talking about them in the MIAC title game?  ???  Bethel and the Corn Cobs might have something to say about that.
We all saw Reusse's article a couple of weeks ago.
