At half, NCC 21 - Wabash 0;

NCC drives approx. 70 yards on ground (with one 45 yard run) to score with 1:50 left in 1st half.  The NCC defense has kept the Wabash offense off of the field.  NCC is going to wear down the Wabash defense if this keeps up.  TOP (time of possession) for NCC is huge, approx two-to-one as Wabash has had only 4 first downs in the 1st half.

Interesting to see what Wabash does in the 2nd half; not sure if they have an answer for the NCC running attack.  Good luck.  LGs.

Wabash Always Fights!!

I saw a football writer say that there should be a stat called "Derps" where they count things like penalties that negate punts.

End of 1st QTR: NCC 7 - Wabash 0

NCC driving after long punt return; Wabash Defense playing well; special teams and good NCC defense bottling up Wabash.  Two turnovers are the key so far.

NCC defense bottling up Wabash O; Wabash  QB has completed 1 of 5 passes;  NCC has caught two of them.

NCC scores on short drive after long punt return - NCC 14 - Wabash 0.  NCC not making any mistakes and playing a solid game.

Out with only my iPhone ad can't get audio or video, only the stat updates. Is Belton out for today?

Belton did not start; Wabash stopped NCC on first drive; Burke throws interception at own 42.  Wabash stops NCC; commits penalty on punt (another turnover essentially); NCC drives 30 yds to score.  NCC 7 - Wabash 0;

I love it. Even with the next opponent on your mind, if you get a chance nail DePauw. That is a rivalry! ;D
We feel that strongly about the Dannies. I especially felt sorry for the poor kid from Illinois College last week who had the misfortune of having the last name "DeFauw."

The video feed of the IC game showed a pretty sparse crowd. Box score shows attendance at 1359. Thanksgiving break plus paying $10 to stand in 40 degree wind and rain must have turned a bunch away. Hope things are better next week and the students cut their thanksgiving holiday short since the LG's will need every bit of the 12th Wabash Man.

Not to impugn the integrity of the Wabash data but I question the 1359 number.  However, all of the factors above did keep the crowd down.  I too hope that many will be able to adjust their holiday travel plans to include a trip through Crawfordsville on Saturday.  This is a bellwether game for the Wabash program.

Belton was noticeably hobbled by a bad wheel in the game - not able to cut, limited straight line speed, and wisely went down to avoid hits.  The wind played havoc with some of his throws and others looked like the ducks seen in prior games.  Wabash's athletic wide receivers have been able to make great plays on jump ball situations.  If Wabash had played NCC yesterday, Burke may have been a better option as the starter.  Good luck to the LGs this week.  Hope Belton heals and is closer to 100% this Saturday.

Any word on tailgating regulations @ IWU?

You can find parking on the south and east sides of the Shirk Center.  Tucci Stadium sits directly behind Shirk.  To my knowledge, there are no regulations on tailgating, beverages, etc.  Enjoy your trip to IWU!

When Wabash played there two years ago, the visiting fans were directed to the parkling lot south of the stadium/field.  There are several "no alcohol" signs up but there was no hassle from anyone.  You should have no problems (but the parking lot is small). Get there early.

Thanks for the analysis, Sigma and Backer.  That's good stuff.

IC's offense is led by its freshman quarterback, Michael Bates.  He hasn't played like a freshman all year and is a dual threat option.  He will be in the shotgun most of the game.  The primary running back, Brimmage, is very undersized.  He doesn't look bigger than 5'10" 160 but is quick and breaks an incredible amount of tackles.  IC runs the ball best up the middle behind the big left guard and tackle.  It will be very difficult to run against the LG's but they'll need to keep mixing it in to keep your D honest.  IC rotates about 5-6 receivers and usually will have 3 or 4 on the field at a time.  They have a few 6'3" to 6'5" and then others who are more "Wes Welker" type.  They will run no huddle and call plays from the sideline.  Most passing routes are short to intermediate, and IC has no problem running 8-12 plays to chunk the ball down the field.

It's no secret that IC's defense gives up lots of yards and points.  However, all year they have come up with turnovers at big times.  I believe they are near the top of Division III in both interceptions and turnover margin.

Good call on the weather.  I've been watching the forecast because wind and/or rain could play a role.  Another factor could be special teams.  If it's close, a huge advantage probably goes to Wabash.  IC does not have a strong kicking game.  They have missed several extra points and do not kick it deep on the kickoff.

Titan:  The advantage Wabash should have in special teams is returning kicks and potentially blocking kicks.  Our kicking game is poor and is a huge risk in a close game.  Wabash has missed more extra points than any other team in NCAC - extra points!  The long snapper has sailed a few over the punter's head and our punter is erratic at best.  Wabash has been the beneficiaries of several lucky bounces and some inept special teams play by our opponents.  When Wabash kicks, few good things happen. However, when Wabash receives kicks, watch #84 go to town.

Congrats, Bear.  You will always have those four games.  And I am not being condescending.  Alas,  the glory that was Greece and the grandeur that was Rome.  Fact is DePauw has to find a way to rebuild.  By the way, and this from a huge Wabash fan: I sat in Blackstock last Saturday after the first quarter and thought how nice it was to have the game in hand, and how boring, knowing that the Tigers had no gas in the tank and the only unkown was going to be the final score and who the Little Giiants would draw for the playoffs. I even tried to convince myself that it was because DPU lost its best QB's.  But, no, there's more than that. And, you know, I don't care much for the word hate when it is applied to rivalries, even intense rivalries. It's a powerful and dangerous verb. I concede, however, that some few need the word if only to attempt to demean. I really hope it's used to stimulate the conversation. Doubtful. If not, I feel sorry about those who think a game and school rivalry can be diminished to that word. Choose your own vocabulary though; it's a free country and all that.  There's always next year!

With that, I heartily suggest that we throw dirt on this one.  Onward and upward and back to the NCAC boards.  I can wait 8 or 9 months before the Bear comes out of hibernation and opens up the 119th Monon Bell Classic and off we go again in anticipation of a 4-peat.

Has Wabash ever played Illinois College before?

Saturday's playoff match-up will be just the fifth time the two schools have played and the first time since 1950. Wabash won three of four games played in the series.

The above comes from the Wabash College write-up regarding the upcoming game.
