What is the best conference in New England? (NESCAC not eligible because who knows?)
NEFC - MASCAC or ECFC

I would say MASCAC/NEFC is very close with the MASCAC having an edge due to Framingham the last few years (but I'm obviously biased to the MASCAC). I would put the ECFC at a distant 3rd.

1. Nobody "settles" for the Ivy League, dude.  The bluster I occasionally hear (on these boards and in person) from parents and/or students of athletes at NESCAC schools, or MIT, or UAA schools saying that kids X, Y, and Z all had "offers" from the Ivy League is mostly just that - bluster,

There is a difference you are missing. All the NESCAC and UAA schools you mentioned are similar to the IVY schools, so if all things were equal you would go play the higher level. MIT, academically, is not "similar" to the IVY's. MIT is the #2 ranked university in the world: http://www.usnews.com/education/best-global-universities/rankings?int=9cf408 and the #1 ranked engineering school in the world.

Jumpshot - I think you are right in what you are saying about the future.  As a father of a 6 year old boy, he has already been told he will not be playing tackle football.  It's just not a risk we are willing to take and better he knows that now because he will grow up channeling his interest into other sports. In our close group of friends we have at least 5 other families that have made the same decision.  Who knows if our sons would have even been interested at the time they'd likely start playing, but there's just far too much information out there already to ignore.  I think you are going to see more and more families make that same decision.

I know some parents who have made the same decision regarding ice hockey with the concussions based on hits to the head, head hitting the boards and the ice, and the lack of guts to outlaw fighting. Every other sport is doing whatever possible to protect against head injuries (to the extent that they can)...............while the NHL actually believes that they would lose a chunk of their fan base if they outlawed the practice. Imagine basketball players settling issues with their fists. Imagine football players taking off their helmets and permitted to fistfight.

Hockey is wannabe boxing on frozen water............insane. This coming from somebody who has been to over 25 beanpots ;)

I think one difference in hockey is that you're on ice. Those blows look bad, but the fact that they're grabbing and clutching and sliding around leads to a much tamer fight than would come from athletes on turf or on the hardwood. Also, unless I'm mistaken, fighting is not allowed in any level of hockey other than the NHL.

I don't buy the RPI v Framingham score. I don't think (outside of Hobart) that the LL and E8 are remotely the same thing. If this were SLU v Fram, I'd but not a 6-4 RPI team. We'll find out tomorrow.

Football as we know it today will survive for a while in Texas, Florida and the Southeast, parts of California before shrinking ultimately to a National Hockey League model with talent fed by specific locales as with Canada and certain European regions.

I do not think I have ever disagreed more with a statement written on this board, ever.

I know Fisher is like an hour and 20 from Buffalo, but have they been (or will they be) hit by this snow? Any chance the WConn game gets cancelled or moved, or that the Cards have been having to cancel practice?

Utica College (7-3)
at Morrisville State College (8-2) 1:00 p.m.

Northeast
Salve Regina University (6-4)
at Norwich University (7-3) 12:00 p.m.

Northwest

I would like to see how they pick these teams and match them up. I would think they should rank them and then have 1v2, 3v4, 5v6 and so on.

Also, How does West Conn make it over Worcester (both 7-3 and Worcester beat West Conn at West Conn) and Norwich make it over Castleton (both 7-3 and Castleton beat Norwich at NU 48-28 last week)? Did Worcester and Castleton not apply?

Also, how does 8-2 WNEC not get a game?

Was it in 2002?

While it has more seating capacity than MIT, UMass Dartmouth is no Taj Mahal.

I thought that Lehigh-Lafayette was the oldest rivalry in college football.

It is big enough to somebody that they are moving next Saturday's game (between two D1-AA Eastern Pennsylvania teams, an hour away from Philadelphia) to Yankee Stadium.

Harvard and Yale will be THE GAME when somebody deems it big/important enough to move it to a Yankee Stadium or Fenway Park ;)

I know you were being a little tongue-in-cheek there but:

Harvard (9-0 with a win over Lafeyette) v Yale (8-1 with a win over Lehigh) is definitely The Game.

Guys -- the people that watch from the garage doe it because they don't have to pay, they can tailgate, and can drink up there -- There are usually more away fans up there than home fans.  The stands are more than comfortable, and yes, the press box is small, but there is nothing wrong with the top-notch facilities and training rooms.

I didn't mean what I wrote as a slight to the program, I was just saying that the stands and box are extremely small, and my guess would be that they can not host because of that. The field they have is pretty new turf, and I'm sure the other facilities they have are very nice, but that's not what we were discussing.
