Fred....how many point favorite do you have RF over CU?

You are correct about the size issues it is a huge delta, CU is smallest good team on the west coast, always have been. In watching a little tape on RF, the only thing that will be interesting is CU speed, how much faster are they then RF...RF should win this one. Will CU team speed give RF an issue and how will RF coaches adjust, most teams try to run straight at them, play action etc.

You guys kill me, so only NWC teams get better as the season goes on...but SCIAC don't...
You are both right the leagues are down.

On a side note Corona Centennial QB (top 5 ranked team in nation) has said he is going to Pomona, if this turns out to be true and he is not offered after the season ends, it is a huge land for PP....kid will start day 1. Very bad news for the SCIAC DC's...

I agree with the group, it is always nice to get a playoff win on the road. However, going for two on the first touchdown was stupid, almost a game changer. Chapman won because they were quicker. NWC is down this year but young, UR beat up WW and the Panthers were quicker than the Rats. CU mobile QB make it tough on a slow defense. QB was able to stay out of trouble most down. I will say the WW qb is vastly improved since UR beat them.

Going forward, took a peek at RF starting O line, they are huge (four over #300 and not short kings like the SCIAC fatties) . I expect RF to jam the ball down CU throat. It will come down to if the RF can get to the linebackers. On a side note RF wide outs also will have a huge advantage, many are 6'2 to 6'5"...This team is huge.

Note Game starts at 10 am our time on the West Coast...ESPN+ for all you tight wads

UR, tired of saying the same thing. I think Mitch and Brett on the broadcast let some insight go...sounds like the UR coaches are going to re-look at all things UR. The O line was the worse in the league except LV, and LV was super young. I would bet UR goes the JC route to some degree, and tries to get creative.

Props to the UR field crew, I know there has been some turn over the last few years on the crew, but the QC has not dropped. The grass field should be a big part of recruiting, given how the data for turfs keeps getting worse. One of the best fields I have ever seen, including pro stadiums.

Good luck to the Panthers...

RBF, yes the 3-3-5 was designed for zone read and spread offense to some extent, but UR jumped into a 40 front in the first series, UR tackling was horrible, backers over running or taking a side.

I agree we can not judge the OC for his first year given he showed up in the spring. The game Saturday just proved we do not deserve to play in any significant game. The key will be finding O linemen (I get tired of saying it) ...but its tougher to recruit now than ever. Given our cost and fit for many players, there is a pool of kids we are not getting anymore.

All in all it was a good rebound from last year and lets hope they can build on it. We have a great group of coaches and I would have no problem sending my kids to them.

Last week,

LV came out with a nice plan, keep 8 or 9 in to block on pass, quick hitters with blocking etc. UR reacted by going to a 40 front (which stretched the field out more for backers to make tackles), 40 front shut down LV scoring the rest of the game, when LV back was against the wall and had to go deep. UR went back to mixing up their 30 and 40 fronts, blitzing out of the 30 fronts on long downs.
I think if UR made the QB change sooner, the chances of playing in the championship game would be greater.

Chapman, they are not getting better every week...have not played well the last couple weeks.

Regals, props to doing what it takes to win, every game is a playoff game at this point.

UR/LV, depends on which offense shows up. LV will not be able to run the ball. UR 17-10
CMS/CLU, the Regals will roll, defense will shut down the run due to team speed is so much superior. Regals 31-17
CU/PP...Hens need a couple roosters on their O line, and at QB...CU 42-17

Oxy football was doomed 15 years ago. Somehow being masculine turned into a bad thing. Once the school went woke (btw my friend refused to send his daughter there recently, due to this issue) ...she ended up at Chapman.

You can trace the leadership changes, talking to the last batch of FB players, they had a target on their back, for some reason security was always near by..Coach had to constantly remind them they are being watch. Now throw in how the woke leadership mislead the alumni in bringing back football.

Oxy - Enjoy not standing up for the national anthem and pulling flags out of the ground for innocent 911 victims.

Do they even fly the American Flag on campus, anymore? no respect for Oxy

Quote from: PickSixNick on October 24, 2025, 11:30:38 AMThis is my understanding of the tie breaker. If it is based off the same rules when the sun and surf started, first it is overall SCIAC record. Second, it is head to head. Third, it is quarters led head to head. Fourth, I believe it is quarters led within your pod (I am not 100% sure about this one).

That being said, Cal Lu led all 4 quarters against UR this year. In theory, they would either need to tie or lead at least 1 quarter in their upcoming game against UR.

I have been to them all...and all of the NWC stadiums and most of the superior NAIA schools out west.

SCIAC

Oxy, my memory of the stadium is students standing up and being disrespectful during the National Anthem, and students throwing American flags away. I did not like the stadium since its only one side and the concrete stands are not very tall.
Whittier, looks impressive from the field, but again, one side stands and I am not a fan. Once can get a high angle. Be ready to walk, poor parking.
Cal Lu, I wont be redundant, love how close to the field one can get.
Pomona, liked it before the remodel and can sit close, ...the roots of an oak tree in the N end zone was classic lib thinking. Tree over human injuries.
CMS, I am not a fan, feels like an old HS stadium, visitor stands are so dinky and the school can afford to do better. Press box is horrible etc..
Chapman, I like it because the stands sit up and you can get a great angle, love the fact it sits on a parking garage. Great lighting too.
The Runner, best grass many ever will play on...sunsets are spectacular
La Verne, nothing good about it, dinky, no visitor side, its tight seating, can get good angle, its horrible.
APU, I wonder where they will play, Citrus College is a typical JC stadium and their home field is pretty worn out, not very impressive. Small home side etc...

Below are my SCIAC predictions this week.

UR: 17, CLU: 30
I don't think the tie breakers will matter. I see CLU winning this game comfortably.

CMS: 13, CU: 28
CMS has a good DL, and will need a big game from #44 to stay competitive. I believe CU's OL will be able to move CMS off the ball and have too many weapons at the skill positions for CMS to hang around.

ULV: 21, PP: 24
ULV has looked much better the past couple games and PP's offense has been struggling, but I believe PP has better players and will win a close one.

Thanks for the info PickSix. Bulldogs are going to have to get off to a fast start and keep it going!

On the subject of the stadiums, The Runner in the evening is a great venue. Zinda Field at CMS is super nice in the afternoon. The view from the home stands with the mountains in the background is stunning. It is a great place to see games, especially when the weather starts to cool off.

The Chapman facility is outstanding. I have not been to Cal Lu since they moved into the current facility but have heard really good things about it. Best part about Pomona is the tree behind the goal posts that is very close to being in play. ULV is a pretty little campus and they've done a lot of work since I've been there. I love the brick building behind the north end zone. Are the tents still there?

Last week.

I had the LV game on one of my TVs very much improved, PP is going backwards. QB play is horrible, O line is equally as bad. LV played CMS super tough two weeks ago. Nice to see a squad of frosh and sophs improving.

Chapman and CMS had that one on too, I just don't get how UR plays so poorly against CU, but CMS can move the ball on them. A decent run game is an issue for CU. If CLU or UR can run the ball on CU, they have a chance in the championship game.

UR and the Regals, I cannot remember a UR team that can look good one series and the next looks like Whittier on their way out. Thank god for UR defense, the Regals qb got hot, but UR was able to fend them off. Why in the OT the Regals kept holding us in the endzone is beyond me, I like the isolation of our big WR in the endzone, in OT.
UR still only has a couple guys blocking for the run game. I think I would push footwork more than weight lifting in the off season. Proof of my point, CLU started 4 linemen over 300# and they were not 6'5". Their slow feet made it tough for the Regals to run the ball and QB was flushed almost every pass. I will take a 6' 260# guy with some quickness over these bodies we are seeing.

Pick,

I agree on your spreads, maybe the scoring is a little high, but the Regals have to be a 10+ favorite. CU, for sure +14, and PP it depends on who plays QB, but 3 is a good number.

In regards to the Regals and my Puppies. UR has to be able to run the ball a little in order to win. UR defense can not be out there all night. UR has to generate a couple first downs even if they dont score. If any RB fumbles make him walk home.
The Regals stadium is one of the best settings in west coast D3, I like FB stadiums with no track, sunk in, with a nice view out of one of the end zones. Regals have it all, plus I love that fans can yell at players in North end zone.

Quote from: wildcat11 on October 21, 2025, 10:04:21 AMAgreed that Linfield hasn't improved and that's surprising as hell.  Worst Linfield offensive line in 25+ years and that's not an exaggeration. I die a little inside every time Linfield tries to run the ball inside for a 1/2 yard gain.
I'm going to disagree a little and say that Linfield's offense has improved some but that improvement is from such a low starting point and at such a slow rate that they aren't keeping up with other programs this season.  McNabb actually looked better throwing the ball but the line play and lack of a running game absolutely killed the offense.  Pair that with our defense getting pushed around (especially by the Whitworth running game) and absolutely horrible special teams play and you get what you get.

Good point your D line is down too, slower etc

Now you know how us Dogs feel...makes the next play very predictable given software coaches can use today.

I watched quite a bit of the WW game. LF is not improving as the season goes on, WW has. I think the issue is the infamous O line issue, being the biggest issue. (perhaps all the good ones are in the Pioneer Conference...Pat?)  Plus, depth is not a good as in the past. It all cycles, let hope the Cats get it going again.

Quote from: Pat Coleman on October 20, 2025, 12:09:23 PMYep -- get this -- sometimes pollsters are wrong. Not sure that helps your Frontier Conference argument, though.

come on, its just FB ...just having fun. The irony is that conference is down a bit just like SCIAC and NWC...
