Quote from: Pat Coleman on April 05, 2025, 06:46:00 PMSounds like they pushed this meeting back two weeks.

That is correct sir and as we understand it, it has more to do with the craziness in DC than anything else. Not a bad thing, btw. Gives the NESCACFBPA more time to lobby for the change. Still a 50/50 proposition to pass from what we are hearing.

Quote from: Trin9-0 on March 26, 2025, 12:02:28 PMLongtime Wesleyan assistant coach, John Capodice, is heading back to the high school coaching ranks. He'll be returning to nearby Berlin High School where he had previously coached from 2004-2015 before an alleged recruiting scandal led ultimately led to his dismissal.

Coach Capodice will be missed and we wish him the best of luck in his new/old gig as HCOF at Berlin High. He did a great job at Wes and Berlin HS is lucky to get him back.

Congratulations are also in order to Wes alum and Coach, Dario Highsmith, who was appointed HCOF at his alma matter, Middletown HS. We also wish Coach Highsmith the best of luck in his new role. He'll do great.

Quote from: Trin9-0 on March 24, 2025, 12:46:57 PMA deserved tip of the cap to Wesleyan as well for reaching the men's hoops Final Four. The Cardinals went an incredible 29-0 this season against teams who aren't Trinity but were 1-2 against the Bantams. A credit to the strength of the league.

Congratulations to Hartford State on winning the D3 Mens BBall National Championship. Well deserved win over our beloved Cardinals.

Congratulations as well to Wesleyan who set a school record for wins (30) and made their first D3 Final Four. Great year for Coach Reilly and the Cards. Hoping that Wes will repeat what the Bants did this year in 2026 when we return to the NCAA tourney and come away with the win. The D3 hoops tourney once again demonstrated that the NESCAC is by far the best D3 sports conference in the country.

Having made the trip to Indiana, we were impressed with the city of Fort Wayne. They rolled out the red carpet for the student-athletes and made it feel like a major sporting event. Good job by them. A highlight of the trip was meeting up with the icon and our fearless leader, Pat Coleman. We plan on having Pat on the "9 Weeks NESCAC" Podcast on an upcoming show and hosting him at the best D3 tailgate in the country this Fall.

Congratulations to our good friend, Coach Mike Whalen, on being named the NACDA D3 Athletic Director of the Year. Well deserved honor.

https://athletics.wesleyan.edu/news/2025/3/17/general-mike-whalen-83-named-nacda-athletics-director-of-the-year.aspx

Since Whales joined Wes in 2010 as Head Football Coach, he's had an amazing impact on Cardinal football and the Wesleyan athletic program as a whole: 2x NESCAC champs, 6x Little 3 champs, and 82-37 overall record. National titles in MLax, WTen, and Crew. Numerous other Little 3's, NESCAC team titles, and individual NESCAC titles. His plaque in the Wesleyan Sports Hall of Fame awaits! Williams loss was our gain. Maybe the biggest mistake in Eph history was letting Whales leave (and then hiring HCOF Kelton). #rollcards

Quote from: Nescacman on March 16, 2025, 04:33:19 PMWe'd be remiss if we didn't also congratulate Hartford State on making their 2nd straight final four. Not an easy thing to do.

What's not easy, making consecutive final fours or congratulating Trinity?  ;D

We think you know the answer to that... ;D

Find me courtside if you can.

Will do and look forward to meeting you in the flesh on Thursday. Assuming the Fort Wayne War Memorial isn't dry (D1 games definitely ARE NOT), first round is on us.

We know this is the NESCAC Football Board, but kudo's to the Wesleyan Men's Basketball student-athletes and Coach Reilly on making their first D3 MBBALL Final Four. A year for the ages for the Mysterious Ministers of Middletown, hoops edition.

We'd be remiss if we didn't also congratulate Hartford State on making their 2nd straight final four. Not an easy thing to do.

Looking forward to traveling 600 miles to Fort Wayne to watch the good guys play the Bants and potentially face our other alma mater in the D3 title game Saturday. First things first on Thursday.

With the NFL Combine looming and the NFL Draft rapidly approaching, we saw the attached EXCELLENT piece from The Athletic/The New York Times on NESCAC's favorite draft prospect, Pants OL Thomas Perry. Highly recommended reading.

Quote from: Pat Coleman on February 18, 2025, 05:37:02 PMI was told by insiders (I'm sure you have many more than I do) that the presidents generally do not take up new legislation and also vote on it in the same meeting.

Perhaps "rendering a decision" for 2025 would be indeed discussing but not electing to vote until their November meeting, which would be in essence tabling it and killing it for 2025.

You are generally correct. However, we do not believe that was the case with adding the 9th game to the schedule. Since this decision would (probably) only involve 1 team (2 max) and it does not require a heavy lift in terms of cost (NCAA covers travel expenses for the visiting team) or any adjustment to the NESCAC FBall schedule, we think there is a chance that this could happen for 2025. The lobbying effort by the NESCACFBPA, alumni, coaches, AD's, and others doesn't hurt either. We're cautiously optimistic.

Quote from: Nescacman on February 18, 2025, 05:06:51 PMActually, not surprised at all. The NESCAC Commissioner serves at the pleasure of the League President's. We will leave it at that.

Circling back to this thought, though -- even the courtesy of a reply to say they have no comment at this time would be expected at least when dealing with the Associated Press request.

We couldn't agree more. Common courtesy but as we said, we are not surprised.

Quote from: Pat Coleman on February 17, 2025, 10:52:29 AMKudos to the AP for picking up on this story. I was not surprised that I did not get a response from the NESCAC office when I inquired a couple weeks ago, but I am surprised that the NESCAC did not respond to the AP, either.

Actually, not surprised at all. The NESCAC Commissioner serves at the pleasure of the League President's. We will leave it at that.

League President's meet on April 3rd and will be rendering a decision on participation in the D3 Play-offs for the 2025 season then. Let's keep our fingers crossed. 50/50 for 2025, IOO.

Quote from: DC 53 on February 14, 2025, 10:07:38 AMRed Dragon Nation (2023 Division 3 National Champions) is very happy with this hire!

https://www.cortlandreddragons.com/news/2025/2/13/cortland-names-tom-blumenauer-football-head-coach.aspx

Interesting post with a NESCAC bent. We'll take the bait...

HCOF Blumenauer is an interesting hire for SUNY Cortland. Most of HCOF Blumenauer's experience is at schools that we would classify as "academically" inclined and are smaller, private, liberal arts colleges. Nothing against SUNY Cortland, but it's not Bowdoin, Williams, or F&M. Recruiting will be a bit different at Cortland compared to his previous gigs. The student-athletes he will be coaching will be different too.

We would classify his coaching track record in the NESCAC as a mixed bag. As OC at Bowdoin in 2015 (2-6), they were 8th in scoring offense and 7th in total offense. In 2016, he moved to Williams. From 2016-2020 he was the offensive line coach and run game coordinator. In 2021, he became OC. In 2016, Williams (0-8) offense was 8th in scoring, 6th in total offense, 5th in rushing offense, and 8th in sacks allowed. In 2017 (6-3), Williams was 6th in scoring offense, 6th in total offense, and 5th in rushing offense. In 2018 (5-4), Willams was 4th in scoring offense (by 1/10th of a point), 4th in total offense, 4th in rushing offense, and 7th in sacks allowed. In 2019 and 2021 (7-2; 9-0), Williams offense was stellar, but of course, they had one of the best QB's in NESCAC history in Bobby Maimaron.

Will be interesting to watch and hope we get to see the NESCAC champ (or a NESCAC at-large bid) face SUNY Cortland in the D3 Play-offs in the near future.
