Swat of course might not get by Stevens, but if so would be two Shin brothers going against each other.

I happened to be on the Union College roster page and noticed a last name that sounded familiar amidst the Kenyon chatter. In the alternate reality where Kenyon faces Union in the tournament, it would be the Muther of all bruther battles  ;)

They lost in the NESCAC quarters a 4th time in the last six seasons in 2015 but lost in the Sweet 16.

To Kenyon, of course  ;)

The thing that puzzles me about the SLU situation is that the downward trend has happened with AD Durocher at the helm as Coach Toshack's boss.  So presumably everything that has transpired has been with Durocher's approval and blessing.  I can see taking a "hands off" approach with one's former program, but this seems like even more than that given the program's former prominence.

How it started...

I picked up a few fun facts while perusing the box scores tonight:

1.  Noted by Mr. Right for racking up 5 goals against Trinity, DeAnte Anderson of St. Joe's (CT) added 4 more goals today against Dean to bring his goal total to 11 on the season.  The opposition hasn't been the strongest, but still....

2.  With 3 D1 transfers (from Merrimack, I believe), Western New England is off to a solid 4-1-1 start and should be a contender for the CCC title.

3.  Fidel Castro is alive and well and playing in the midfield for Worcester State.

How it's going...

1.  Anderson just broke his own single-season scoring record with his 18th goal, a game-winner against Emmanuel.

2.  Western New England is mired in the middle of the pack of the CCC.

3.  Castro is having a "revolutionary" first season, with a goal and an assist so far. Not to be outdone by hoops star-turned-collegiate golfer J.R. Smith, the Worcester State roster has another famously named midfielder--a certain Manny (Being Manny) Ramirez (2 assists so far this season).

In full disclosure I'd prefer commenting on other regions, but if I don't bring up Great Lakes probably no one else will.  We used to have at least a few other dedicated posters (particularly the OWU guy and Capital guy) but none seem to be around these days.  Gotta make sure your teams and regions get some air time.

I appreciate your keeping us posted on this important neck of the D3 woods. I miss the insightful columns of Ryan Harmanis (OWU guy) and the "boots on the ground" reports from Domino (Capital guy).

Hiram and Allegheny appear to be as weak as they've been in years, and unfortunately that's saying a lot.

Drawing upon your "NCAC New England" roots, do you know how it came to pass that Chris Payne came to leave Assumption after a highly successful three-year rebuild and find his way to Hiram? It looks like he's got his work cut out for him.

Just popping over here to post UPSET ALERT: Alvernia up 1-0 middle of 2nd half.

Thanks for the scoop on the match!  Alvernia gets a late PK to salt it away 2-0.

Thanks for giving the north and west some love and representation on the board.

I second Ron's motion!  Great work, Paul!

Body of water is the CT River and Coast Guard's campus is amazing. I was tempted to apply but back in the stone ages of the mid 90s, they offered very few majors and I didn't have interest in being an engineer. But the campus is amazing and worthy of the other service academies.

It's worth noting that the campus of Connecticut College borders that of Coast Guard and shares some of the same water views.

Thank you, SimpleCoach!  Those numbers square with my general sense of what was going on, especially in the first half and early in the second half when the outcome was still (relatively) in doubt.  Once the subs came in late in the second half, I would guess that Amherst's ratio bumped up to 5:1 or even higher.  They clearly CAN possess and move the ball around, but it's a conscious choice not to (and they have experienced a lot of success taking that approach).

St. Joseph's ME v Amherst
Amherst

   Really choppy play.  No real possession.  Lots of bad passes on both sides.

I'm really looking forward to the SimpleCoach 10-minute passing statistics on this one!

That is an awfully attractive backdrop for a soccer game.

Don't think I've ever seen a backdrop for a soccer game that compares to Washington & Lee's, though.

I haven't been to W&L (yet, although I've seen it on the stream), but of D3 venues I've been to in person, I rate WUSTL, Williams, and SUNY Oneonta highly on backdrop attractiveness.

With the Bardong Brothers no longer a NESCAC duo, it appears that the Traynor Brothers are heirs apparent to the league's sibling throne. Michael netted the game-winner for Trinity in their 1-0 victory today over Emerson and older brother Sean did the same for Tufts in OT earlier this week against MIT.
