North Central had an easy time of it against a hapless 1-4-1 Hendrix team this afternoon, winning 2-0, and will return from Arkansas sporting an 8-0 record that's gotta be the best start that the Cardinals program has ever achieved.

Nah, the '87 team started 13-0-1 ;D, with wins over Wheaton and Northwestern University.  Yes, the Big 10 team.  This years team is doing well which is nice to see after so many years of futility.  The big BUT is that their schedule really sucks.  If they want to win the conference and get a chance in the big dance like NP, Carthage, Wheaton they need to toughen up the schedule.  Playing cupcakes don't prepare you for the speed, ball control and shooting of those teams.  Sure you can turtle up and hope for a quick counter, but the law of averages says one of those shots goes in or a pk call happens.

Yet, you give USEE a pass for his view of a call...nice. ::)

These were my observation of what was going on during the game.  Wee ton's tackles are slow, if they play a team with speed rushers, they are going to be in trouble.  The hold was as blatant as could be.  No flag.  What do you want me to say?  The play ended up leading to a TD.

Oh, I'm sure we got away with a couple hold calls too.  Never said we did or didn't did I. :o

So, remember, never ass ume anything right. ;D

And your point is?

USee's analysis was, emphasis added on the important notes:
Quote from: USee on October 17, 2016, 12:43:35 AM
I thought the pass interference call on Marcus Smith was a good call which was a 3rd down conversion and prolonged a NCC scoring drive. Likewise a subsequent pass interference call against Blazek on 3rd down  was horrible and led to the other score in the second half for NCC. The officials, by and large, were not a factor in the outcome and made some calls good and bad both ways.

Basically I think there's a Grand Canyon's amount of space between talking about pass interference calls made or missed and talking about holding calls made or missed.  And USee's take was balanced and ended with a punctuation that calls got missed both ways.  That's a key thing when you travel down the road of MMQBing Division III game officials.

That's a long, long way from calling Wheaton's guys serial holders that will get torched in the tournament by game officials that will call such things more closely (don't hold your breath on that either...the record is long and storied of playoff official crews making bad calls, missing calls, not controlling the clock properly...all kinds of stuff) without even the slightest whiff of "hey, maybe my guys held a little (or a lot) too."  I didn't see a single snap of this game Saturday night and yet I'm more than comfortable saying North Central held on the interior line, probably a lot, without being penalized.  It happens ALL.  THE.  TIME.

Then say so in the first place, that's all I'm saying.

I'll try to be clearer in my response next time.  Just responding to Usees complaint about a pi call that he felt led to a td.  I agree the zebras didn't change the game.  Just stating my opinion on the line play and in particular the missed holding on the 45 yd pass play.

NCC

The Good:
Rutter showed he can play in the CCIW.  What impressed me was that he changed the way he ran in the 4th qtr.  After getting short changed by the refs in the 3rd qtr on some slides (way past the first down markers prior to slide, but refs mark it 2 yards short??), he skipped the sliding and went full bore ahead to make sure he got the proper mark.

NCC Defense was outstanding!  Kept the Wee ton running game in check.  The big back didn't do much (yards gained were deceptive as he got half those on one carry prior to the half ending).  They kept the pressure on the QB and didn't give him time for any reads.  The Wee ton tackles couldn't block our ends.  Not to further knock the refs, but on third down Wee ton completes a long pass that led to a touchdown in the third quarter, should have been called back.  The referee standing not 5 yards away and doesn't call the  right tackle for a huge holding (he was beat so bad he had to grab and pull our end back from getting a clear shot at the QB).  The player turns and look at ref and he just shrugs?? The defensive line coach was ticked and kept asking the ref why he didn't throw flag.

NCC Special Teams answered the call.  Punt return team was outstanding and kicking game was on point.

The whole team: Showing Wee ton you can win the game and WAIT TO RECEIVE the bell with class without being a bunch of jags running through their bench to grab it.  Well done men!!

The Bad:
We need to figure out the running game.  Please coach, no more delayed/draw plays!!  It hasn't worked all season.  Get these guys the ball with a running start.  Would like to see Broc looking in the flats for his running backs/ motion receivers for a quick check down.  There was a play he tried to go deep on third down and he had Dylan wide open in the flat with a ton of green out front.  Wasting time outs because we take too long getting the plays in.  This shouldn't be happening in my opinion.  We get to the line right away, then we cannot decide what we want to call??  c'mon coach get your $hit together.

Late hit penalty....keep your emotions in check.  No reason whatsoever to hit the quarterback out of bounds.  That is just plain stupid, dangerous, unprofessional.  i would have no problem if the refs would throw your ass out of the game so it is very clear to you that it is not acceptable.

Wee ton

The Good:
Not a single guy on that team gave up!  You guys play hard for the whole game.  Your tight end is an absolute stud!  He should have gotten way more touches with the ball.  He was a one man wrecking crew!!

Defensive line and linebackers - They get to the ball carriers quick!  Our running backs were better off just going straight up the field and getting zero to two yards instead of trying to string the play out wide and getting hit for 3-4 yard losses.  Outstanding tackling by everyone on the team.

Punter kept us pinned in the third quarter.  He was very very good with hang time.

The Bad:
Your offensive line needs a lot of work in pass protection.  Your tackles are huge, but man are they slooooow.  If you guys end up in a different bracket and gets ref's who might call a lot tighter game, you could end up in trouble with holding calls.

Your defensive secondary can't cover.  They had trouble all night with coverage.  You could see the frustration in their body language.  The pass interference calls were spot on.

Special teams - Your kicker needs to relax; by that, i mean he needs to just put the ball through the uprights without trying to kick the thing to the next county.  On extra points, kick for accuracy not power.  On punt coverage, you had guys who didn't stay in their lanes on that return for a TD.

If you saw this offensive lineup, what would you think?

T    6'3" 240
G    6'5" 290
C    6'5" 240
G    6'4" 315
T    6"8" 285
TE  6'4"  230
QB  6'5" 225
RB  6'3" 200
WR 5'10" 175
WR 6'0"  180
WR 5'10" 175

Initial reaction, WR's seem a bit on the small side.

What if i told you this is a high school team?  They pound the rock very well and the receivers are very very quick.  Playing for the Indiana state championship in 6A.

:o

What's scary about this team, is that they only lose 1 lineman, the qb and a receiver on offense.  Rest of team is jr and sophmores....
QB heading to Harvard and big 6'8" boy heading to U of Virginia.

Quick shout out to the NCC soccer team for their HUGE upset over the cream of wheats in the CCIW tourney.

As far as the IWU game goes, the cream by 2 or 3 tds.  The cream's defense will over power the IWU offense.  Big question for the IWU faithful, where was everyone last weekend?  That was a pretty pathetic home crowd for such an important game.  Rain or no rain, support your school.

Not a "newbie", just couldn't find that sarcasm button.  ;D

12 posts = newbie.  :'(

Because one doesn't post, doesn't make one a newbie.  Just saying.

Mugsy,

so the cream of wheat is coming to NCC for the game this weekend, should be a good one!  :)

(Did I do that right ^?  Don't want USEE to get mad and all) sarcasm off.

The next three weeks will decide the CCIW as the top 3 play each other.

Wheaton @Naperville this week
Naperville @IWU next week
Wheaton @IWU in 3 weeks

This schedule definitely favors the Titans with both games at home after these two play each other. Naperville has the advantage of hosting the Thunder and the only solace Wheaton has is not having these two game back to back. IWU can play with both these teams. My questions on each team would be: Is Naperville's defense capable of slowing down Wheaton and IWU and can they get consistency at QB? Can IWU compete with the other two up front? On offense to more consistently move the ball and on defense to slow down the run, which has become each teams calling card. Will the Thunder be healthy enough to play at the high level it will require to beat these teams on the road. Can the Wheaton receivers match the physicality of the Titan db's?

Didn't know there was a Naperville college?  Checked the schedule and didn't see Naperville vs IWU?  Could you tell me where to find this game?  ::)

Ring the Bell - Beat Naperville

you can ring the Bell and beat Naperville, but North Central will win!  ;D
