For the first time in over a decade, I looked up my username and reset my password, just to say: WOW and WOO!  (Also, thanks to the board for keeping this occasional lurker informed over the past 15 years).

Hey now.  I'm no Boone County native, but Columbia is home now and I can't let this Rock Chalk/anti-Tigers sentiment just go unchecked.  Save this type of smack for Mike & Mike, P Carr!

Your post may force longtime IWU assistant coach David Steinbrueck (Boonville H.S. grad) out of the lurking closet.  If you get hit-and-run in the next couple days by a new poster called "Boondogs", or "Stein99", or "Jack Seven", you'll know you messed with the wrong guy.

Ha.  I forget you lived there now, Q.  My apologies.  I had a couple friends from Boone County, so I have plenty of jokes, but I guess I'd better save those.

I really don't dislike Missouri that much, although I do enjoy poking fun.  Now that I'm out east, I have to stand up for the entire Big 12 against all the crazy East Coast-biased media.

Hope J.C. D. plays this weekend.  The hand injury maybe more serious than I thought.  Is the coach just being cautious?
I thought I heard an announcer say she had a broken hand.

I broadcast the game for D3hoops on Saturday, and Amherst people said that she did have a broken hand.  They hoped she could play this weekend, but they were in wait-and-see mode.

Quote from: Into_the_Blue on March 08, 2010, 03:06:04 PMmy goal next year is to make a CCIW game.  Who is closest to KC, MO?  :)

Augie looks closer, but Millikin appears to have a better interstate connection to KC than does Rock Island.

I think I-35 to Des Moines and I-80 east wouldnt be too bad of a drive.  I might have to check out an augie home game.

Having made the drive from Topeka to Wheaton plenty of times via both routes, there's very little difference roads/time-wise between driving to Rock Island and Decatur.  Probably about five hours either way. Possible St. Louis traffic would be the only downside to the Decatur route.  I'd also recommend considering a WashU game, especially if a CCIW team ventures down there. Very easy drive.  Just hold your nose through Columbia.

and radio guy?

Art Kimball, with honorable mentions for Johnny "Bud" Weiser and Bob Quillman and a special Student Broadcaster of the Decade plaque for Paul Carr.

Thanks!  I'll hang the plaque next to my runner-up trophy from the 2001-02 CCIW fantasy league. I think Wheaton C won that year.

Back to lurking in Bristol...

Looks like the NCAA isn't allowing WETN to stream video, but their audio is available.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I MUST find a way to get to a Wheaton game next year.  Surely the Thunder need to squeeze a New England road trip into the schedule somehow.

FYI, Raymond's 47 points are the third-most in a single game in Wheaton history.  The two ahead of him were Norm Pott w/ 50 against Millikin in 1954, and Tom Dykstra w/ 48 against Carthage in 1970.

Since I first became obsessed with this board in 2000 when Wheaton got hosed out of a berth, I suppose it's somewhat appropriate for me to peek my head out now that Wheaton was on the fortunate end of the committee's benevolence.

WAY TO GO WHEATON!!! WOOOOO!!!!!

Ahem.

Also, considering Titan Q's recent announcement, I'll throw mine out there too (for the handful of people who remember me).  It's been quite the year for me.  I got married this past September (non-D3 girl...sorry), and on Sunday I'm leaving Topeka, Kansas for the mothership in Bristol, CT.  That's right...ESPN.  For better or worse, I'm joining the likes of Mark Simon in ESPN's research department.  As I mentioned in my cover letter, I'd like to think that spending so much time in Division III athletics helped me learn how to do research, so thanks to all of you who make following relatively obscure schools so enjoyable.  Maybe I can get back into it a little now that the closest D3 school isn't five hours away.

I hope all is well with everyone.  Know that I'm usually lurking, even though I scarcely post.  Pat, if you need a broadcaster for any games in the New England area (Amherst?), drop me a note.

From North Central coach Benjy Taylor has been named head coach at Chicago State.   Apparently improving one CCIW game in three years ('02-'04) eventually gets you a D1 job.  But were his recruits the guys who have helped the Cards move above .500 the last couple years?  Discuss.

I'm going back to my lurking hole now.

Another in-region loss for Wheaton (Whitworth was also in-region).

Okay, I'll show my ignorance and ask the dumb question: Why is Whitworth (located in Washington, right?) an in-region game?  Because of where the game was played?

I feel out of the loop.  Meh.  Either that or I'm still riding high from attending the soccer Final Fours.

Quote from: CRZK on July 10, 2006, 05:06:14 PMSomebody mentioned this earlier, the red card in this case is probably the first use of replay to award a card.

Accurate or not, FIFA today said that the replay was not used in deciding to give out a red card.  The French coach suggested that the video board was used, but FIFA denied that, saying it was spotted by the fourth official.

I say that for the entire knockout phase (or at least the final), get rid of PKs.  Keep playing golden goal overtimes until someone scores.  And give each team an additional sub every OT or two to keep the teams somewhat fresh.  A game-ending goal of any sort would be so much more exciting and satisfying than penalty kicks.
