Quote from: saratoga on April 07, 2025, 07:15:37 PMAugie, I hope you're right about this incoming class.
However, as we all know, the ability to put up great high school numbers does not always translate to the college game.

Just took a look at Lady Royal rosters going back 40 + years to see which years brought in at least 2 players that made a significant impact.

Here we go...

1983/84'
Patty Fulton
Shelly Ritz
Grace Hickey
Sharon Barone
Una Espenkotter
This group got great experience as freshmen & then the following year, aided by transfers Shelly Parks & Deanna Kyle went on to win the National Championship.

1989/90'
Another great year adding future stars:
Jackie Dougherty
Katie Geiger
Anne Gooley
Lynn Kempski (Mom of current Lady Royal Liz Halligan)

1995/96'
Erin Hurleman
Kate Dougherty #1

1996/97'
Kelly Halpin
Shannon Milder

1997/98'
Lisa Harris
Jaime Eilbacher

2000/01'
Katie Dougherty #2
Kate Pierangeli

2001/02'
Eileen Webster
Tara Gemmel

2003/04'
Taryn Mellody
Allison Matt

2007/08'
Jenn King
Courtney Roselle
Megan Kopecki

2011/12'
Lindsey Fluehr
Meredith Mesaris

2012/13'
Noelle Alicea
Jackie Gantz

2013/14'
Sarah Payonk
Alexix Roman
Denise Rizzo

2014/15'
Katie Broderick
Katie Feehery

2016/17"
Sophia Recupero
Mackenzie Mason
Lily Warhaftig
Emily Sheehan...(by their junior year, the class was in the Final Four)

2018/19'
Danielle McCurdy
Emily Shurina

2019/20'
Hannah Angelini
Bridget Monaghan
Kyra Quigley

2020/21'
Maddie Hartnett
Maddy Ryan
Jenna Larrabee

2022/23'
Kacy Kranson
Jenna Sloan

2023/24'
Katie Gorski
Elizabeth Bennett
Megan LaManna
Natalie Stoupakis

The 2024/25' kids all played about as expected but thus far, no one has emerged as a dominate player from that class.

A number of years there were multiple incoming freshman but only 1 emerged from the group as an impact player.

Those would be, as an example, the following years:

1992/93'-Mary Strasser
1993/94'-Current All-Time leading scorer Jen Nish
1998/99'-Gillian McGovern
1999/2000-Ann Marie Russo
2002/03'-Kelly Lewendowski
2005/06'-Kathleen Daly
2010/11'-Allison Sweeney
2015/16'-Bridget Mann

I'm sure there are others I may have missed but I think this gives Royal fans a trip back in time to the kids that made this program one of the most consistent Top 20 teams in the nation year in and year out.

What this next group brings to the table is yet to be seen but chances are, at least one of them will will make some serious contributions and keep the deep runs coming.

 Saratoga,
Nice effort on Lady Royals' history. I began my evaluation of prospects when nobody of note showed up to complement Megan Kopecki during her next 3 years.

After hitting browse, I'll check out some of those links. The 1st 8 were by/about Louis D Mitchell, professor in the English Dept that I had for Literature. One of the course topics was Beowulf(?). Prof Mitchell was blind and he had to bring in this huge Beowulf tome in Braille. I remember him being a pianist as in one of those links. Thanks for the recommendation.

Ronk:

I found this...

Sports were much more popular on campus when Rhett played, then they are now, and anyone who went to a Scranton basketball game was amazed by "the Jet". It was also common for Jenkins to have an entire page dedicated to him in the newspaper.

NEPA, thanks for the article.
In baseball, Scranton used Schautz Stadium in Dunmore as its home field when Rhett and I were there. It had a rectangular shape - left field was ~ 370 down the line, center was ~ 450, right was short but it had a 30' screen about halfway to center. In center/left center was a softball field, facing the baseball field. I saw Rhett hit a home run over the 3rd base of the softball field, over the stands behind its 3rd base line and the fence behind the stands. Had to be 450' easy since it was just to the right of that 450' sign in center field.

After making the D1 Big Dance this season; guess their share of the NCAA tourney money wasn't enough.
One of Scranton's all time best athletes(Rhett Jenkins - baseball & basketball) played frosh year @ St. Francis before transferring to Scranton; numerous lunches with him in the cafeteria

I'm not seeing a video link for either women's semifinal; what's the story?

Quote from: Augie2020 on March 19, 2025, 09:13:01 AMThen why bring it up,If you didn't think someone should be on it? Especially on the womens board.

Will McLoughlin was the only multi-year(2025,2023) Landmark 1st teamer not to make all-region this season after being all-region previously(2023). Should have merited serious consideration.

Saying  no one was on it doesn't mean I think someone should be on it.

Quote from: TUAngola on March 17, 2025, 05:22:46 PMCongratulations to Trine's Sidney Wagner for being selected to play in the WBCA All-Star game preceding the NCAA DIII Women's National Championship game.  I believe Sidney is the second Trine WBB athlete to be selected, alum Brandi Dawson was also selected following her stellar career at Trine.  Congratulations Sidney, well deserved!

Watched some of Sidney's games v Hope over her career; yes, well deserved!
I attended the inaugural women's all-star in 2019 in which Brandi Dawson played. Scranton was in that Final 4 and our legendary coach Mike Strong was 1 of the all-star game coaches. Was 1 step away from returning to the Final 4 this year at the same 2019 site but not to be.

Quote from: NEPAFAN on March 15, 2025, 10:22:34 AManyone know how i can re-watch last night's game?

Clicking video for the Stout game only presents the box score or play-by-play, no game video.

I see NCAA.com removed the video from that page when the game ended, but here's a direct link to the video: https://www.ncaa.com/champs-pass/?B=2243677

Pat Coleman,
Thanks, I appreciate your effort; I was going to ask you who could be contacted for the video but you saved me that. Too good a game not to look at it again.

Yes, Stout was relentless, won the offensive rebounds 12-7(some of them on own missed FTs when Scranton had inside position), 2nd chance points 16-11, and fast break points 16-0. I don't think Scranton played anyone else this season with a similar style. Still, Scranton had their opportunities to win.
It was a outstanding sectional with 3 close games and a worthy Final 4 competitor. I give Stout a good chance against NYU. I see NYU this season as less than their championship team of last year, w/o their 2 outstanding grad transfers(Morrison and Bauman).

And the Cards won Friday w/o Sean Neylon, their best player. Looks like the reason was probably illness, since he played 18 mins on Saturday as a sub.

Baldwin Wallace plays Ohio Wesleyan in the 5 p.m. game.

Go TITANS -- everyone has to hit the glass tonight, then pressure them and run them out of the gym.

IWU'70

Some of us played when it was a board, not glass.  ::)
