Quote from: IC798891 on March 25, 2026, 12:58:34 PMIthaca's Dan Raymond announces his retirement. An all-timer in D3 women's basketball

Usually ran into Dan at AAU evaluation events; over the years, a number of my prospects chose Ithaca and Dan. One of those is currently an assistant with Carnegie-Mellon; could see her applying for the opening.

Nescac,
Would appreciate a link to the similar transfer portal for D3 women's basketball.

Quote from: Greek Tragedy on March 18, 2026, 05:23:48 PMAre there any Mac & Bob's-type places in Fort Wayne that fans are going to?
There are bunch of places you can go. Irish bar, Mexican just walk around you will find one you like.

I was curious about an unofficial designated place that fans hangout at, not just any place. If you've ever been to the Final Four in Salem, Mac & Bob's was that place.

 Greek,
In your honor, I had a fine Cuban sandwich at Mac and Bob's last night, celebrating defeating 91 consecutive winner NYU Thursday; unfortunately, Scranton couldn't close out a 3-pt lead with 8 mins to go yesterday for the chip.

Quote from: hoopstermom on March 22, 2026, 08:11:07 AMNot much has been said all year about W&L on this board, which is too bad.

So, I would like to say congratulations for a great season!  What a great team and what a great run, finishing 31-1 with your only loss coming to the team taking home the Walnut and Bronze trophy. What a feat.

Not only that, but your senior Mary Schleusner took home D3 Hoops First Team All-American honors as well as Player of the Year along with earning a long list of other NCAA and ODAC accolades and setting many new conference and national records.  She is certainly the most decorated ODAC player (man or woman) since R-MC's Megan Silva who played back in 2002-2006.

Thank you for representing your school and the ODAC so well and thank you for giving us some exceptional basketball to follow.

Got to see Mary play in the 1st quarter of the all-star game yesterday. The player(Jordan Holmes) whose career rebounding record that Mary broke was also there as a Denison former player/fan. In talking with Jordan yesterday, I suggested that congratulating Mary on the feat might be in order; don't know if she found the opportunity.
I remember Megan Silva well as I was present also when she(Randy Mac) defeated Scranton in the 2005 national semi before losing in the champ to Millikan.

Quote from: gordonmann on March 21, 2026, 11:09:30 PMGood to see you, Ronk.

Tough one today. I'm sure we will see each other again down the road, likely in March.

My over/under for the teams in this Final 4 being there next year is 2.

Incredible season for the team and coaching staff. Thanks to our seniors - Kaeli, Kaci, and Jenna.
In the crowd: recently former players - Bridget Monaghan, Kyra Quigley, Maddie Hartman, Morgan Brewer; former asst coach Kathy Genco, current men's players PJ Kellachan and Will Marion, '76 MVP & national champ Jack Maher, now a college prof @ Va Tech; President Fr. Marino

Forgot to mention the support from the men's lax team; probably worth 5 points on the scoreboard.  :)

Defense pulled them through; that's the major difference from previous Lady Royals versions. Sophia, Meghan, and Kaeli are gamers!
Denison has a quality 6-3 big defensively in the paint; we'll see if she goes outside w Liz on Saturday.
Maddie Hartman and Kyra Quigley in the house tonight: very nice pre-game reception sponsored by Quandel.
Hope the Lady Royals work on their clock management; end of 1st half and at least twice in 4th quarter they took shots well before clock expiration; could have run 50 secs off the clock after their offensive rebounds.

If you aren't going to Salem, make sure you have ESPN +!

Won't it be streaming on NCAA.com as well, or just ESPN+?

ESPN+ only

Quote from: gordonmann on March 14, 2026, 11:50:07 PMCongrats to the Royals fans on another impressive victory and another trip to the national semifinals. Looking forward to seeing Scranton versus NYU on Thursday and seeing my bud Dean Corwin!

If you see me in Salem, please say howdy.

Gordon,
Will do. Nice to be at the Final 4 again. It'll be a daunting task v defending champ NYU but the last time(2019) was against #1 St Thomas More who I think was better than this season's NYU team and also that this Scranton team is also better than that Scranton team. We'll find out Thursday.

Quote from: NEPAFAN on March 07, 2026, 10:54:34 AMSusquehanna pulled the ole one and done after running into a buzzsaw in Redlands.

But the CUA Cardinals are still rolling..

Not that the River Hawks would have won but Mario Castro-Sanchez reinjured his knee in the Wilkes game and will probably need another surgery.  But the Redlands matchup wasn't ideal. Bigger AND faster is, needless to say, problematic. My son is a pretty big point guard in the Landmark at 6'2" but he'd be tied for the shortest on their roster. Susquehanna did earn the matchup with the 2-7 record in January so can't really complain.

Catholic's opening round win does extend the Landmark's streak of winning at least one game to at least 7 years I believe (not including the COVID season).

River Hawks will look completely different next year with the graduation of 6 seniors.  They had a really good recruiting class this year but unfortunately 5 of the 9 were hurt most of the year so didn't get much experience. But they'll be much more athletic so should be higher tempo.

Susque had a good season within a competitive conference, took advantage of the Moravian loss @ Juniata, and earned their way into the Big Show. Always nice to have that experience. Appreciate your contributions to the Landmark board. Best wishes!

Scott Peterson posted on X his data for sweet 16 teams individual player rankings of plus/minus for the season; Scranton had 4 of top 7: Kaci-#1, Kaeli-2, Meghan-4, Katie-7.
In reply a tweet to Scott's display, Ryan Scott said Scranton might be the best defensive team that he's ever seen.

It's good to hang your hat on defense, especially when shots aren't falling as they have in some past Scranton NCAA tourney losses.

Quote from: pointlem on March 08, 2026, 09:08:42 AMHope women's BB fans last evening were gifted with this season's second well-played, exciting overtime win against an excellent Illinois Wesleyan team, which must be feeling snake-bit.

With an early 16 to 4 lead, Hope looked like it might dominate, but IWU was resilient, and took a 77 to 71 lead with but two minutes left. Defeat looked imminent to Hope's suffering team and supporters. But with great character, forcing an IWU turnover and miss, Hope endured with two Sydney Vis layups and a Maddie Petroelje jumper. After two IWU last second shot attempts were foiled, the game went into overtime, where Hope—especially after IWU star guard Ava Bardic fouled out with 26 points—cruised to a 90 to 85 win.

Those of us who worship in liturgical churches may think of this game when hearing today's lectionary text from Romans 5: "Suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not disappoint us." So it was.

Speedy, sharpshooting IWU senior Ava Bardic played like an all-American. As the teams did their post-game handshakes, Hope coach Brian Morehouse held up the line while, with a hand on Ava's shoulder, he conveyed his admiration. A fitting class act end to a class act game.

Remembering in 2006 the next day after the sectional round when Hope was going to play Scranton in the coming Final 4 semi, opened my Sunday weekly church offering envelope and emblazoned across it was the word "Hope" in lenten purple, so I knew it was a sign from above of the winner in that game. Arguably, it was the actual championship game that weekend.
