I think Bleed is right on the timeline, they will go over resumes and come up with an initial list this week and make contact next week to come up with a list of finalists to come to campus.  We start classes the week of the 23rd so I am guessing there will be on campus interviews once we have the students back.  In the past Whitewater has done open forums for the finalists (among their other interviews on campus) and list the names on their athletic website, I suspected they will do the same this time (unlike last year's searches in Platteville and Oshkosh).

Candidates for the position can request their names not be released through the initial phase of the process in line with state policies but once they become finalists they lose that protection and it is a matter of public record.  It will be interesting to see who comes through the process and becomes a finalist and comes to campus.

On a separate note, has anyone noticed if either Platteville or Oshkosh listed the openings for the coaches who were hired last spring (not the head coaches) on an "emergency" basis?  With the state policies they can be on contract for one year as an emergency hire before there needs to be a search for the permanent position.

Here is the link for the Warhawk Head Football Coach position description (hopefully it will work but this is the address):

https://www.uww.edu/employment/academic-staff-non-instructional/posting?listing=2333

It opened earlier this week and will be open until January 8th, 2023.  They do not list the salary range (one frustration with the past/current HR administration) in the PD.  I haven't heard how quickly they will move after the 8th to bring finalists to campus for an interview.  Classes start on Monday, January 23rd.

For Bleed, one of the two may be in play for 2023.  The Warhawks have Saint John's at home and I believe are traveling to UMHB as part of the agreement.  I believe both Salisbury and Carthage owe us a home game.  We shall see, we should have four home conference games in 2023, Saint John's makes it a fifth.  In 2024 we probably will be back to three conference games at home so having two non-conference home games would be ideal.

For warhawkguard, the Warhawks are playing at Eau Claire on October 8th and hosting River Falls on October 29th (that will be the Homecoming game).

There was some swapping around for the Warhawks.  In 2023 we have St. John's here and will go to Texas.  Now we need to find the third team as our two year agreement with Berry is over.

Going through the tea leaves of the schedules listed here are the conference dates (some based on who the home team was last year):

October 1-EC @ Stout, WW @LaCrosse, Platteville @ Oshkosh, SP @ RF
October 8-WW @ EC, LaCrosse @ Stout, Oshkosh @ River Falls, Platteville @ SP
October 14-Oshkosh @ WW (UW-W hosts State Marching Band on the 15th)
October 15-LaCrosse @ EC, RF @ Platteville, Stout @ SP
October 22-EC @ RF, SP @ LaCrosse, Stout @ Oshkosh, WW @ Platteville
October 29-SP @ EC, LaCrosse @ Oshkosh, Platteville @ Stout, RF @ WW
November 5-EC @ Platteville, RF @ LaCrosse, Oshkosh @ SP, WW @ Stout
November 12-Oshkosh @ EC, Platteville @ LaCrosse, Stout @ RF, SP @ WW

I decided to go back and look at the last two Warhawk coaches search.  In 2015 Kevin Bullis (Defensive Run Game/Special Teams Coordinator, UWW) was selected and the other finalists were:  Rob Erickson (DC at UW-Plattevile); Dean Paul (HC at Ohio Northern); Dave Taynor (HC at Urbana); Erik Raeburn (HC at Wabash).

In 2006 Lance Leipold (OC at Nebraska Omaha) was selected and the other three finalists were:  Rick Willis (AD and former HC at Wartburg); Curt Wiese (HC at Marietta) and Stan Zweifel (OC at UW-Whitewater).

I did some checking because I thought I remembered he was a finalist for one of the conference positions  as well.  I did find Kehres was a finalist for the UW-LaCrosse head job in 2011 along with Joel Dettwiler (who got the job, coming from Wartburg where he was the DC), Tony Jennison (Head Coach at Macalester) and Jake Moreland (TE Coach at Western Michigan).

In 2016 LaCrosse had four finalists.  Mike Schmidt was the DC at Platteville before becoming the Head Coach.  Also in the pool were Travis Rundle (DC at Illinois Wesleyan), Brent Schroeder (HC at Caledonia HS in Minnesota) and Jim Zebrowski (QB Coach at Minnesota and former OC at UWW).

In 2020 they selected Matt Janus who had been the interim coach after serving as their DC.  The other candidate was Joe Schafer (DC at John Carroll).

Thank you Pat, all the way back in 2007.  The current AD was one of three finalists as was Todd Hoffner, University of South Dakota assistant at the time who had been the coach at Eau Claire before that.

Thank you, I just found it odd that there was nothing out there for both the Platteville and Oshkosh searches.  In the past both LaCrosse and Whitewater listed the candidates and had open sessions for the campus and community.  I know with COVID the open sessions may need to be virtual (it has happened for other campus searches in the System).  Also, once you are a finalist for any position in the System you waive your right to confidentiality but you can maintain it through the initial application.

Who were the other finalists at Platteville?  I never did see anything on the campus/athletic website/twitter or in the media.  Did they do any open interviews with the campus and local community?  Where is Oshkosh with their search?  Haven't seen much from them either.

Blaine Hawkins is the best QB in Division 3. He played well yesterday despite the final stats. He marched the team down the field quickly and efficiently on the first drive. He had a fantastic run for a TD that was called back and don't say holding as UWW was holding all day long. He then got the TD back without allowing time left for WW to do anything. We were behind by 6 pts at the half.
How many non WIAC teams did that? Hawkins was under constant pressure and the WW QB had all day. Yes your O/D lines were better. How do you think Meylor's stats would be if the script was flipped? Hawkins sat out several entire second halves against starters for our opponents, as I am sure Brett Elliot did before him. Those receivers getting out of bounds despite the WW defense doing everything they could to keep them in bounds shows the heart I and FR referred to. It meant a lot to them to try to make it possible. Emma is right a bunch of heartless bastages you and your booing fans are. I am forever Dutch and proud of it.

He is a very good quarterback and had a great season.  In looking at the play-by-play for the Central games this year he sat out the whole second half twice (Kalamazoo, 45-6 at halftime, 69-13 final and Simpson, 56-3 at halftime, 84-16 final), played into the third quarter in three others (Coe, Loras & Luther) and into the fourth quarter for the rest (Saint Olaf, Nebraska Wesleyan, Wartburg, Dubuque, Buena Vista, Bethel & Wheaton).  I would say if the coach would have called timeout so that he would could be honored by the fans for a great season there might not have been many boos.

First post, long-time reader.  The Oshkosh AD reported this to the conference office in the fall, they looked at it, checked with the NCAA and both said there is no violation.
