My friend son goes to A D2 school and they got the word. They just dropped one game and was told that they were to report 6 weeks before the first game as of right now. He stated that the coach was on a committee for D2 sports and they are definitely looking at having a season but it might have some different stipulations.

I agree that it is part of the game and yes I am upset but for the players. My issue is WLU has lost two games this year directly due to officiating. The EH game was a bad call terrible call that gave them 15 yards and one more chance to throw a hail mary that with the 15 yards added made it to the goal line without the penalty the pass would have not made it. Then the RM game the oblivious TD that the receiver was out. We had a TD called back on a very questionable call. The Int at the end of the game that would have iced the game was overturned on a very late flag for offsides which should have been thrown as soon as it happened not when the Int was made. Several fans had left the game and didn't realize they got the ball back and had to return from parking lot. Yes, bad calls happen to both sides and holding could be called all the time. Got it but both of those games were taken out of the players and coaches hands and decided directly by bad calls and for that I feel for WL because if they would have won those two games and RM takes care of Bridgewater, WL would not be looking fourth place right now. I also agree that they could of done things to win those games without the referees having a saying and should have done it. I just hate seeing them lose one game with no time on the clock and the other with 7 seconds on the clock due to bad officiating. Well, just going to have to tight up and take it back in their own hands and not the hands of others. Rant over thanks for indulging me.  ;)

Agreed, he's out.  But, if we reviewed ever close call, how many of those would be reversed, such as the phantom RMC fumble when driving for a TD.  We've been spoiled by instant replay in higher divisions and NFL.  For good or bad, officiating has been, is, and will always be part of the game.  Sometimes you're the dog and sometime you're the fire hydrant.   Sure, I feel for WLU and I'd be mad as heck too.  I know we all agree that we want good officiating.

The video I saw was much clearer. I can see why they picked that one. LOL. It was an easy call that was missed and I used that to give the Refs the benefit of the doubt. They have a tough job, but two refs with clear views of the catch and his feet missed it and they asked the back judge half way across the field to make the call from the goal post. One ref was 35 feet away on the line and he didn't say a word. The one ref was 10 feet away with a clear view and didn't make the call. If instant replay was used it would have been overturned not even close. But guess what it was a TD because they called it that. It was just one of a few that changed the game. It is just sad that the game was not decided on the field by the coaches and players. Just my thoughts which with a buck might get you a small coffee. Congrats to Randolph Macon!

Regarding the catch in the corner of the end zone. In this tweet

https://mobile.twitter.com/KirkNawrotzky/status/1190809843600412672

is a 54 second video of R-MC highlights from the game. The play in question begins at about the 40 second mark. Pretty hard to tell where the receiver's rjght foot lands. The left foot clearly lands out of bounds, but the right foot seems to come down first -- just can't tell where. Judge for yourselves.

That he was out. The ref that was about 10 feet away looks to ask the ref that is under the goal post and he points at them and then the ref puts up the TD signal.  So, we have a ref that is right on the play and another about 20-25 feet up on the same sideline and it looks like the ref under the goal post makes the call. SAD!!

It's hard to prove anything from one still frame. What does the video show?

I agree there was missed calls both ways but the BAD Calls against the Generals took it out of the players hands and the Refs decided it. You are right you only need one foot but the foot I was talking about been 6 inches out was the closest one to being inbounds so both were out and two refs looking right at it. It was clear I have seen the still shot and watched it over and over not even close. The Interception the flag for offsides came after the play and I watched the play over and over and did not see anybody offsides and as you know that would of ended the game. Good Luck to you guys. It is just a shame that the Coaches and players have lost two games taken from them by officials. I guess next year you just have to make sure it is not close so it will not matter.

rmc1982 I agree with you that the Refs missed some calls both ways, One touchdown pass that RMC got there were two Refs looking at the catch and I have seen pictures of the catch and the foot is out on the white stripe by a good 6 inches clearly out of bounds but they gave it to them. Calls will be missed during the game but it seems that WL are getting bad calls that directly effect the outcome of the game and that is the bad part of it. Congrats! You guys won the Game! Good luck against Bridgewater and Hampton.
I was there and the officiating was awful but it wasn't totally one sided. There were more bad calls on your Gennies I'll admit but they were equally terrible both ways. I really didn't see what happened on the interception because after he picked it off I went inside( we were in the YJ Club upstairs in Birdsong Hall and I was watching from the balcony) and when we got downstairs we still had the ball. I will say your Gennies definitely deserved to win. We gave up 4 TD's on drives less than 4 plays- two long runs up the middle on 1st down in the 4th quarter- very uncharacteristic of Pedro's defensive teams. We were upstairs in Birdsong and a lot of what was happening was at the opposite end and we couldn't really see it that well but I'll take your word for it. The conference should be embarrassed over the officiating and this certainly isn't the first time it's been brought up. Kudos to the Gennies for a good game.... we have to go to Bridgewater next weekend and if we play like we did yesterday we will get ROCKED.
[/quote] Correct me if I'm wrong but in college football only ONE FOOT has to be inbounds for a completion??

rmc1982 I agree with you that the Refs missed some calls both ways, it happens every game! Tough job Got That too!! The thing about the calls that were and were not called Totally Changed the outcome of the game and took it out of the players hands. One touchdown pass that RMC got there were two Refs looking at the catch and I have seen pictures of the catch and the foot is out on the white stripe by a good 6 inches clearly out of bounds but they gave it to them. WL had a touchdown pass called back on a illegal shift that I watch over and over and the guy did not move until the ball was being snapped. The Interception that would of sealed the game, the flag came out late after the play and it was supposed to be offside and I can not find anything. I heard from several that the RMC QB was over the LOS on two of the passes on the last TD drive but I can not verify that one way or another. It also just so happened that all those flags came from officials on RMC side. I don't know if they were doing a good job of coaching the Refs into calls or what>LOL. As bad as it was the WL game against EH was just as bad or worse. Calls will be missed during the game but it seems that WL are getting bad calls that directly effect the outcome of the game and that is the bad part of it. Congrats! You guys won the Game! Good luck against Bridgewater and Hampton.

It's been a while since I've seen a team robbed as bad by the refs as W&L was today. RMC gets FOUR pieces of home cooking in the late 2.5 minutes that were so bad their own radio team was shocked and appalled.

The refs should never work an ODAC game again. You know it's bad when the defense gets an interception and after the play is over the ref throws a flag and decides the defense was offside. A pass interference that didn't exist. And the QB throwing twice after being flushed from the pocket, over the LOS by 2+ yards for completions.

Oh well. Not the Generals' year between the E&H game and this one. But that was truly embarrassing for the refs and the ODAC.

Would love to see the Generals scrimmage VMI but VMI is scheduled to play Marshall 8/31 in Huntington.  Looking forward to the Season also!  Go Generals!!!

Rumor has it that W&L has set a scrimmage date with neighbor VMI on 8/31. Should be a good gauge on where the Generals are if this comes true.
I will stop short of saying that the Generals are loaded but I will say that we have a large group of seniors, with lots of playing time under their belts. The Jr class and even some Soph are ready for full time action as many have logged lots of game time the past 2 years. Incoming Freshmen class looked athletic and hungry this past weekend at the freshman camp.

We are looking forward to a great season!

GO GENERALS!

W&L-Maryville Football Game Has Been Cancelled

Sep 15, 2018
LEXINGTON, Va. – The football game between Washington and Lee and Maryville that was rescheduled for Thursday, September 20 has now been cancelled.
The Scots are unable to secure a viable travel plan to Lexington due to resources (buses) in the area being committed to assist in the relief efforts for those affected by Hurricane Florence.
Washington and Lee (2-0) will return to action on Saturday, September 29 when it opens its home and ODAC schedule against Randolph-Macon.  Kickoff is slated for 1:00 pm.

W&L will have 25 freshmen!! I think Abell still might be an asset. He is at a D1 school that have similar academic standards. He might steer a few that might not meet D1 stereotypical criteria to W&L. Just a thought.

Davidson football rejects attending WL would make WL a very average team.

I agree if that is all W&L was getting. I know being from fairly near Davidson and from help coaching and helping kids with recruiting that there have been some good players that did not fit the D1 Stereotypical size or criteria that Davidson passed on in the past (Now Abell might change that) that I would be happy to have at W&L. Now if he steers them to W&L due to not meeting that criteria it would increase the size of the recruiting classes at W&L and instead of 20-25 kids a year they might be able to bring in over 30 (not the same as the other ODAC schools that bring in 50 a year but would help depth). Now I don't know if it would happen but due to the high academic standard at W&L it would be a option to get kids that might not have consider a school like W&L but would meet the high academic standard but still want to get a great education and play high level football. Again not saying that is the only players that W&L would get but would help the numbers and I don't know if Abell would do it. Just putting it out as an option to help increase the numbers in recruiting classes.  :)

Thank you MUC57!

Yes, It is the primary reason! I agree 100 percent! I don't think Mount Union has lost since you were there  ;) ;D! I just wish there were more people talking on the board and more D3 coverage. I have just started watching D# football and mostly the ODAC since that is where my son took the majority of his visits and I love me some ODAC football. MUC57 I am a little younger than you (West Virginia State class of 92) but I am the same way I get mixed up too I just love football!!

You are correct. I am excited. I agree that RMC will no doubt be a very good team and most will probably pick them as favorites. I would not underestimate Coach LeRose and Jones knowledge of the offense, but calling a game is different and I feel Coach LeRose will rise to the occasion! Just my humbled biased opinion. I also agree that freshmen don't win Championships but they will provide depth. Of coarse I am biased since my son is one of them. I am a firm believer that Games are won and lost in the Trenches. W&L return most of the starters for last year and the D-line has several young linemen that will only be better this year. That is why I have faith that the Generals will repeat!  I wish your Tigers good luck (especially against RM) this year (except when they play the Generals  ;D,)  My son made his visit to H-S when they played W&L last year. He had a good time and enjoyed the visit.
