Quote from: cubs on April 26, 2025, 11:15:26 PMRough day for Platteville... Not only did they drop a game to lowly Eau Claire, but watched as Stout "stole" one from Whitewater as well.

Sweeps by Platteville and Whitewater tomorrow would leave both Stout and Platteville at 12-12 with four games left to play in the race for the #4 seed. Platteville travels to Whitewater to end the WIAC regular season while Stout hosts UWO.

The two teams split their season series so that tie breaker is out.  Stout has the win against us so if we were to sweep Platteville Stout would have the four seed regardless of what happens with Platteville/Oshkosh. Should both be tied after this weekend the four seed will go to Platteville by virtue of their win over LaCrosse.

The WARHAWKS (31-3,21-3) finished the weekend series sweeping Stout (14-22,12-12) but neither win came easy.  C.Hansen (7-1) allowed just a single hit and recorded 13 strikeouts over 7 innings to pick up the win in game one.  Hagen relieved him but struggled allowing 3 runs on a pair of hits and 3 walks.  Failing to finish the inning Koenig (S1) relieved him and finished the last 1.1 innings with a couple walks and a strikeout. Hopper and Thies led the offense with 3 hits apiece while Scolon and Cootway had a pair of hits. Scolon, Frank, Cootway, Thies and Paden all had a rbi.

Stout took a 3-0 lead after 3 innings in game two but the WARHAWKS responded with 3 doubles and a home run to regain the lead in the fourth 4-3. Stout tied the game 4-4 with a run in the bottom of the inning. However the WARHAWKS plated 4 runs in the fifth and then added another in the seventh for what appeared to be a comfortable 8-4 lead.  But the Blue Devils weren't finished adding a run in the 8th, another in the 9th and loading the bases with one out before the WARHAWKS Brady Malkow retired the side.  Lee started allowing 4 runs on 8 hits with a pair of walks and a strikeout. He was relieved by Wickman (2-0) who got the win going 3.1 innings while surrendering a run on 2 hits with a walk and a strikeout.  Malkow finished the final 0.2 innings allowing a run on 3 hits and striking out 2. Scolon led the offense with 3 hits including record breaking career  home run #48 and a solo rbi.  Frank had a home run and double for 4 rbi and Thies also had a pair of hits including a home run finishing with 2 rbi. Cootway added an rbi.

Stout (14-20,12-10) snapped the WARHAWKS (29-3,19-3) ten game winning streak with a 6-5 win in game one.  Trailing 5-1 in the seventh the Blue Devils tied the game with a home run and three unearned runs and then carried that momentum into the eighth scoring the go ahead run on back-to-back doubles. The WARHAWKS got solo home runs from Scolon and Cootway while Thies was good for a pair. Holland had an rbi.  Cootway led the 10 hit offense with a pair of hits. Hoseboe (4-1) took the loss striking out 7 in 6.2 innings.

WARHAWKS take a run ruled game two 13-2.  Scolon went 5x5 including two home runs, a triple and had 5 rbi.  Cootway had a home run and 3 rbi, Thies a home run and pair of rbi and Spring had a home run.  Jackson and Frank also had a rbi. Eisenbarth (4-0) started and got the win pitching 5.1 innings.  Malkow struck out 3 pitching the final 1.2 innings.

Scolon has tied the program career home run record previously held jointly by Pat Tobiasz and Cal Adridge with his 47 home run.

The WARHAWKS (28-2, 18-2) took both ends of yesterday's games with Oshkosh (21-11, 12-9) 11-5 and 10-7. Leading 4-2 after five innings the HAWKS scored a combined 7 runs in the 7th and 8th to put game one away.  C.Hansen (6-1) started allowing 5 hits and 2 runs with a walk and 3ks over 5 innings. Huseboe and Hopper followed surrendering 3 runs before Eisenbarth finished with a 1-2-3 9th.  Holland led the 15 hit offense with 3 hits while Frank, Scolon, Thies, Paden and McVey all had a pair of hits. Paden drove in 3 while Frank, Thies and McVey each had 2 rbi and Holland and Cootway added one apiece.

Oshkosh led 7-5 after 4 innings in game two. The WARHAWKS got a run in the fifth and two in the sixth to take a 8-7 lead and added a pair of insurance runs in the eighth to secure the win.  Hagen started and struggled giving up 4 hits and walk good for 4 runs in the first inning. Lee relieved him allowing 2 runs on 3 hits and 3 walks in his 2 innings. The pitching settled down after that. G.Hansen (2-0), Wickman, Brust and Eisenbarth surrendered just a single run on 3 hits over the final 5 innings.  The wind, blowing in off the river, was a factor in the first game but died down for game two and the WARHAWKS bats took advantage with home runs from McVey (3 run), Holland (2 run), Scolon, Frank and Paden.  The offense had a second 15 hit day with Paden and Hopper leading the way with 3 each.  Holland, Cootway and Jackson had a pair of hits.

The WARHAWKS (26-2, 16-2) played an out of conference game beating Rockford College (18-13) 11-3.  McVey led the 14 hit WARHAWK offense with 3 doubles and 3 rbi.  Charlie Bogue chipped in with two hits and a pair of rbi.  Jackson, Frank, Cootway, Paden and Hopper each had a rbi.  Frank got the start on the mound allowing just a single hit, walking a pair and striking out a 2 in 3 innings.  Hansen relieved him surrendering a hit and striking out a pair in an inning. Malkow (2-0) got the win pitching a hitless 3 innings and striking out 5. Dupor surrendered a couple of runs in his inning and Brust closed the ninth giving up a hit and striking out 1.

The WARHAWKS (25-2, 16-2) pounded on Pointer (13-16, 8-10) pitching scoring 56 runs on 61 hits including 13 home runs. Cubs already mentioned the huge series Cootway put up.  He was getting intentionally walked by the end until his last at bat when, with bases empty, they pitched to him and he promptly doubled. It was also a record breaking and tying day for Scolon who broke the program career hits record with his 260 hit and tied the WIAC record for runs scored with 225 when he scored three times on Saturday.

Eisenbarth (3-0) got the win in relief in the suspended game which finished a run ruled eight innings 20-10.  Eisenbarth threw 3 scoreless innings.  Huseboe (4-0) allowed a single run on 4 hits with 7 strikeouts over 7 innings for the win in game three of the series. Hopper pitched two scoreless innings allowing a single hit in relief.  Taczy (1-0) came in relief in game four pitching a scoreless inning with a walk and strikeout for the win.

The WARHAWKS (22-2, 13-2) knocked out 17 hits scoring a 8 inning run ruled 18-5 win over Stevens Point in game one today. Scolon and Paden led the way with 3 hits apiece. Scolon's hits included a pair of home runs and 4 rbi. Holland also had 4 rbi on a grand slam home run and Cootway hit a pair of home runs and had 2 rbi. Thies contributed with 3 rbi while Jackson, McVay and Spring had solo rbi. Cade Hansen (W 5-1) got the win giving up 3 runs on 9 hits with 5 strikeouts in 6 innings.  Wickman and Malkow pitched in relief.

Game two was headed in the same direction as the WARHAWKS were leading 18-9 going into the eighth when the game was suspended due darkness.  Play will resume prior to tomorrow's games.

The WARHAWKS (21-2, 12-2) take both ends of yesterday's games with the Eagles 12-6 and 4-2 moving them into sole possession of the conference lead.  Eisenbarth returned from an injury to pitch 6 innings for the win in game one.  He allowed 3 runs on 7 hits and struck out 3.  Hopper relieved him picking up a 3 inning save after allowing 4 hits, 3 runs and striking out 3.  The WARHAWK bats were on fire pounding out 24 hits. Paden and McVay led the way with four hits apiece while Jackson, Spring, Cootway and Scolon all had 3 hits each and Holland finished with a pair. All of them in addition to Holland and Thies had at least one RBI. Thies, Jackson and McVay each had home runs.

Home runs from Frank (2) and Jackson (1) led the way in the low scoring game two. Huseboe started on two days rest and pitched the first 6 innings allowing a single run on 5 hits and striking out 6.  Koenig relieved him but struggled and was pulled after allowing a pair of hits and a run. Brady Malkow (1-0) got his first WARHAWKS win surrendering a single hit and striking out 2 in 1.2 innings before being relieved by Hagen (S1) who retired the Eagles 1-2-3 to finish.

The wind was howling at Miller Stadium both days and blowing directly out to left field.  Combined the two teams hit 16 home runs over the four games.  I kind of expected more.

The WARHAWKS (19-2, 10-2) and Eagles (19-4, 10-2) split yesterday's twin bill with the Eagles winning a run ruled 12-1 game one and the WARHAWKS winning game two 8-3. Cade Hansen (4-1) took the loss struggling in his 2 innings allowing 7 runs on 6 hits with a pair of walks and 3 Ks.  Wickman, Tazy and Dupor pitched in relief.  Holland had a pair of hits including a home run for the WARHAWKS only run.  Kaatz (5-1) pitched a complete game for the Eagles allowing 6 hits and striking out 6 with a single walk.

Frank homered and drove in 3 runs while Thies, Scolon, Hopper and Paden all drove in runs in game two as the WARHAWKS took and early 2-1 lead which held till the sixth when we added 5 runs.  Ben Lee (4-1) went 5.2 innings allowing 4 hits, 3 runs with 3 walks and 5 strikeouts for the win. George Hansen and Koening combined to pitch the final 3.1 innings. Hansen had a couple walks and 4 strikeouts.

We were unable to score on two bases loaded situations in game two.  One with one out and the other with two outs. It was one of those games where we hit the ball ok but we just kept hitting those lazy flyouts.  Most balls that we hit hard we hit directly at someone.

The Titans' pitching strategy was interesting. They essentially used the same pitchers in both games and then brought in Brinkman to finish it.

The WARHAWKS (17-0, 8-0) defeat River Falls (8-9, 3-5) with 69 hits (9 2B,3 3B and 17 HR) outscoring the Falcons by a total of 67-15 in the weekend series.  Obviously pretty much everyone hit the ball hard but hats off to Evan Olson who seeing his first at bat of the season crushed a grand slam and followed up with a solo homer in his second at bat for 5 RBI.  Cade Hansen (4-0) got the win in game one allowing just 2 hits over 6 innings and striking out 5.  Jack Hagen (3-0) took the win in game two surrendering 4 hits and 3 runs with a walk and 5 Ks in his six innings.  Max Huseboe pitched the first 4 innings of game three allowing a single run with 7 Ks before being relieved by Jackson Koening (3-0) who did the next three innings giving up 3 runs with a walk and pair of Ks. Ben Lee was credited with the win in game four though he pitched just 4 innings giving up 4 hits, a pair of walks and striking out 5. Brust relieved him a normal scoring rules should be credited with the win.

The addition of River Falls created a problem balancing home/away games among conference members. So the league changed the format of the midweek games.  Now teams will play one opponent in a midweek series rather than two as we had in the past. Also each team will host one of the two series.  So we play Oshkosh in WHITEWATER this Wednesday and then play the next two in Oshkosh later in the season.

The WARHAWKS (13-0, 4-0) take both ends of today's twin bill with Eau Claire (6-9, 0-4). Game one was a run rule 14-2 win and game two went 9-0.  Holland had 4 rbi with a pair of home runs on the day.  Brett Summer hit a 3 run home run in his first official at bat in game one. Scolon and Frank both drove in 3 runs in the double hitter while Theis, Najera and Jackson each had a pair while Cootway and McVay finished with one.  In addition to Holland's home runs Frank, Theis and Jackson had one. Huseboe (2-0) got the win in game one allowing 5 hits and striking out 7 in 6 innings.  Hopper relieved allowing a pair of earned runs on a pair of hits while striking out a pair. Lee (2-0) picked up his second win pitching 5 innings allowing just 2 hits and 2 walks with 10k.  Wickman, DuPor, Taczy and Milkow all pitched an inning in relief.

WARHAWKS hosts NAIA Saint Xavier in a single game Wednesday.

Around the league:
LaCrosse swept the series with Stout winning 13-2 and 16-11 today.  Katz threw a complete game one allowing 5 hits and striking out 6.  The Eagles had 30 hits on the day.  Seaman had 3 home runs, Rajkovich had a pair and  Olver had one.

Oshkosh swept the series with Platteville winning game one 8-7 on Stebane's rbi single in the bottom of the ninth before having an easier time in game two 8-4. Surane led the Titans with a home run in game one and 3 doubles for a total of 6 rbi.

It only took a couple games for River Falls to pick up their first WIAC win as the Falcon's rallied for 5 unanswered runs over the 7th, 8th and 9th innings for the 7-6 win over Stevens Point.  Castillo's rbi single in the bottom of the ninth gave  relief pitcher Kuster credit for the program's first conference victory.  Point took game one 12-8.  Oliver had 2 rbi to pace the Pointers. These two meet again tomorrow.

River Falls and Stevens Point are scheduled for Fri/Sat.

WARHAWKS (9-0) have little trouble with St Mary's (9-8) beating them 13-0.  Koenig (2-0) got the win going 5 scoreless innings allowing a single hit and striking out 4. Wickman relieved with 3 scoreless innings and Dupar finished the final inning allowing a couple hits while walking and striking out one.  Holland went 4x5 with a double and 3 rbi.  Scolon, Cootway and Jackson all had a pair of hits. All three had doubles. Cootway (3), Jackson (2) and Scolon (1) also had rbi.  Turner Hudson, a grey shirt sophomore seeing his first at bat, bashed a 2-run home run.

The WARHAWKS have also moved their series with Eau Claire to Thursday and Friday.
