WARHAWKS: 68
River Falls:54

The WARHAWKS started slow trailing by 2 after the first quarter and by 3, 31-28, at the half.  Things changed in the second half however.  The WARHAWKS took control outscoring the Falcons 21-9 holding a 9 point advantage heading into the final stanza. The lead reached its high of 11, 52-41, after a couple minutes but RF started chipping away at it and with just under 5 minutes to play cut it to a single point 55-54. Mia Gillis's layup broke the WARHAWKS scoring drought. Nine points from Bri McCurdy over the final few minutes and a stifling defense which held RF scoreless put the game away. The WARHAWKS dominated the paint 40-18 and shot 65% from the floor in the second half. Gillis led the team scoring with 17 points while both Brooke Stenklyft and McCurdy each scored 12 points and Camryn Nies finished with 10.  Renee Rittmeyer had a team high 8 rebounds.

River Falls: 59
WARHAWKS: 67

RF led by as many as 10 points in the first half before the WARHAWKS finished the final few minutes with a 14-4 run and cut their deficit to a single point, 32-31, at the buzzer. that momentum continued in the second half as the WARHAWKS quickly took the lead eventually building it to a high of 10 points, 55-45, with under seven minutes to play. However RF rallied and over the next four minutes pulled even 55-55. A layup by Issac Verges broke the tie and the WARHAWKS started a 14-4 spurt to close out the final couple of minutes.  Verges finished with a team high 16 points and added 5 rebounds and 3 assists. Collin Madson followed with 14 points and a team high 8 rebounds.

Congrats FALCONS for doing yourselves and by proxy the WIAC proud.

Really happy for you Fred. Decades of loyalty rewarded.  It couldn't have happened to anyone more deserving.

The first quarter of the WARHAWKS/Pointers game was low scoring and closely contested with multiple ties and lead changes ending with Point up by a pair 11-9.  With the exception of two ties the Pointers maintained a 2-5 point lead throughout the second stanza and led 25-22 when it ended.  The WARHAWKS managed to gain a lead twice in the third quarter but the Pointers responded to regain it each time and held a slim 38-37 lead at the quarter's conclusion. The Pointers maintained the lead through the first couple minutes of the fourth before the WARHAWKS forced a tie, 40-40, and the two teams exchanged the lead six times over the next 3 minutes. Bri McCurdy's three pointer tied the game 48-48 at the 5 minute mark. After Point missed a pair shots Lanie Burks scored on a driving layup giving the WARHAWKS a 50-48 lead that they would build to 8, 56-48, by holding Point scoreless the final 5 minutes.  Brooke Stenklyft led the WARHAWKS with 11 points. Mia Gillis added 10 and McCurdy finished with 9 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals.

The WARHAWKS miss 17 of 39 free throws, lose by 7, and that was the game.

Oshkosh started the game sinking 7 consecutive three pointers and 24 of their first 26 points came from beyond the arch.  The WARHAWKS couldn't keep pace with that falling behind by 11 before clawing back to within 2-3 possessions until managing to pull within 3 points 37-34 at the half. In the second half Oshkosh would build a 8-10 point lead only to have the WARHAWKS fight their way back to 2-3 possession deficit. But the Titans continued sinking three pointers (7-9 in the second half) and the WARHAWKS could stay within 5-6 points but could never get over that hump.  Oshkosh made free throws and we missed three pointers down the stretch to create the 90-78 final. Collin Madson and Richie Warren each finish with 17 points.  Warren added 9 rebounds.  Brock Marino was good for 15 points and 9 rebounds. Luke Bara rounded out the double figure WARHAWKS scorers with 14.  The Titans went 15-26 from outside outscoring the WARHAWKS 45-18.  The worst of it was our defense which was slow to respond giving the Titans way too many open looks.  If that doesn't improve it's going to be another disappointing conference season.

easy come, easy go

The #10  WAHAWKS 10-1, coming off a game in which everything went their way, struggled against Gustavous Adolphus before rallying in the final stanza to eke out a 47-44 win. Trailing by eight to start the 4th quarter the WARHAWKS rallied to tie with just over 4 minutes on a jumper from freshman Brooke Stenkylft. After that free throws preserved the lead. Bri McCurdy led with 11 points. Stenkylft finished with 10.

Coe shoots 67% in the first half to the WARHAWKS 9-2 37% building a 19 point lead, 54-35.  The WARHAWKS cut the deficit to 13 in the second half. Tyshawn Teague-Johnson led the WARHAWK scorers with 13 in 23 minutes in his longest stint on the floor. Collin Madsun followed with 11.

Camryn Nies scored a career high 18 points and Mia Gillis added 14 leading the WARHAWKS 9-1 to a blowout 89-51 win over Augsburg.  The WARHAWKS dominated virtually every statistical aspect of the contest shooting 57% from the floor including over 60% in both the 1st and 3rd quarters. Gillis, Renee Rittenmeyer and Logan Lowrey pulled down 6 rebounds each and Bri McCurdy's stat line read 6 points, 2 rebounds, 6 assists and 2 steals without a turnover. The WARHAWKS resume action in Minnesota taking on Gustavous Adolphus tomorrow afternoon.

The WARHAWKS (9-1) demolished Alma 91-60. Joey Brezowitz's career high 16 points led three other teammates with double digit points (Madson: 13, Bara: 11 and Quast: 10). The WARHAWKS got 53 points off the bench.

The WARHAWKS Hope game was a classic. A combined 26 ties and lead changes settled by Issac Verges's half court swish at the buzzer. Leading 90-89 Hope sank a pair of free throws to go up by 3.  With 6.3 seconds remaining Collin Madson took the inbounds pass up the left side and drilled the game tying three pointer from around 35 feet.  After a time out with 1.3 seconds remaining Hope attempted to inbound the ball with a pass to mid-court. However it was intercepted by Verges who fired it towards the basket, hitting nothing but net, for the 95-92 game winner. Madson finished with a 20/11 double-double and added 3 assists. Verges was also good for a 19/10 double-double.  Brock Marino added 17 and Luke Bara 12.  Tyshawn Teague-Johnson saw his first action of the season scoring 9 points and pulling down 3 rebounds in 13 minutes.  The officials called 50 fouls resulting in a total of 67 free throws.

The #10 ranked WARHAWKS 8-1 traveled to Texas and picked up a pair of wins.  In the first game against Mary Harden Baylor the WARHAWKS dominated in the paint (42-18) and in points off of turnovers (24-11) out scoring MHB 32-15 in the first half before cruising to a 66-37 blowout win. Jada Krohn led the way with 20 points while Bri McCurdy added 15.

Game two against East Texas Baptist went pretty much the same way. 24 offensive rebounds led to a 16-9 advantage on second chance points and a 34-22 advantage in the paint. Plus the WARHAWKS turned 35 ETBU turnovers into 28 points. Mia Gillis led the way with 15 points while McCurdy added 12 and Camryn Nies was good for 10.  The final score was 75-40.

Quote from: Pat Coleman on December 17, 2025, 09:43:41 PMEven more old school -- they ran the wishbone, right?

I believe you are correct. They were great at it.

They were. I played high school baseball with Adam Kowles, who was the quarterback for their run in the mid-1990s. Adam played catcher and I played outfield and second base.

I played against some very good UWRF teams in the 1990s. Those wishbone teams were often at the top of the rushing lists, regardless of division. One wrinkle--they did a lot of it out a no-huddle offense--that was uncharacteristic of option teams. They weren't up-tempo, but they wouldn't huddle. So you couldn't substitute, and their long drives would just tire out defenses even more. They were ahead of their time. They also ran a defense with an inverted DT that was a yard deeper off the ball than their other d-linemen. It gave them more stunting and looping options. They didn't always have the deepest roster, but they were so good at what they did.

Though he played a bit later the player I remember is Owen Schmidt. They came down to WW and rushed for something over 300 yards. I think he only played for a year at RF, rushing
for over 1,000 yards before transfering to West Virgina and later having a solid career with the Seahawks. That dude was a beast.

The WARHAWKS 7-1 built a comfortable lead and then held on down the stretch to defeat Carroll 64-60 last night.  The WARHAWKS kept it close but trailed for the majority of the first half.  A 9-1 run over the last two minutes however gave the WARHAWKS a 36-28 lead at half.  That lead reached double digits around 11 minutes and a high of 17 five minutes later. At that point Carroll got hot and got to the free throw line repeatedly. The WARHAWKS shot poorly and turned the ball over multiple times until Carroll cut the lead to 4 with 1:43 remaining. But a layup by Jake Quast and pair of free throws from Issac Vergas kept the WARHAWKS in the lead and secured the win.  Collin Madson was good for 22 points. Quast finished with 10 and led the team with 7 rebounds. As a team the WARHAWKS pulled down 20 offensive rebounds.

The #11 WARHAWKS 6-1 started cold from the field and trailed Knox (3-6) 37-35 at half.  The Knox lead grew to 5 points, 43-38, after three minutes of the second half before the WARHAWKS rallied, gaining the lead by the 5 minute mark and finishing the period with a 21-9 run and a 59-52 lead. The lead reached double digits midway through the fourth and essentially remained there finishing at 11, 77-66, at the buzzer. Renee Rittenmeyer led four WARHAWKS double digit scorers (Krohn:13, Niles:12, Lowrey:12) with 20 points and added a team high 9 rebounds. Significant scoring advantages from points off of turnovers (26-6) and bench points (45-6) offset Knox's 50-32 advantage in the paint.
