Wilkes' top two performers (24 and 23 pts) took 30 of the 47 shots. Clearly, man defense was not working.

Quote from: saratoga on February 18, 2026, 12:04:39 PMKind of a relative statement as the eye sometimes only sees what it wants to see.  ;)

Per Ryan's mock bracket, should the Lady Royals win the first weekend they'd be off to JHU.
Goldfarb is a very drab middle school gym & that whole area is sketchy at best.

I pray he's wrong.

If you think the JHU neighborhood is sketchy, can I introduce you to "literally anywhere else in Baltimore?"

Let's not act like a stones throw from the Long Center isn't sketchy in Scranton!

They usually do a "first xxx students get in free"

How about an alumni price to get in, too?!

Great comeback by the Royals. They stayed in it, slowly chipped away, and you could see once they got within 7, they sensed they had the Hounds reeling. Credit to Moravian in the 1st half, as they were quite impressive.

Not as meaningful as the 18 point NCAA comeback from 11-12

Quote from: KnightSlappy on February 03, 2026, 11:53:45 AMThe Penn State system is closing seven campuses following the 2026-27 academic year. I wonder if the resulting consolidation will push a few more PSU schools to D3? I believe all of the campuses with enrollments of 1,000 or more are currently NCAA.

The 12-team PSUAC conference competing in the USCAA will be down to 6 following the closures.

I can't imagine the local branch campus (PSU-Scranton) joining the NCAA. The enrollment is low, was one of the campuses under consideration for closing, and the facilities for athletics don't stand up.

Going 5-3 would mean they finished the season 6-4 in their final 10, not including a likely quarter-final game in the conference tournament. I would think that would keep them out for an at-large.

Check out this week's d3datacast. Lots of Scranton win over CUA talk.

Quote from: NEPAFAN on January 18, 2026, 10:49:59 PMjust want to avoid a let down against Wilkes!

Hope Ruisi is healed up!

He didn't look in great condition, and left for awhile, and came back wrapped and limping. Hoping for a speedy recovery for him.

14-1, best start since 1992-93

Nah...still not convinced though the kids played as hard as you can ask.
If CUA is the creme de la creme of the Landmark then the league top to bottom is pretty mediocre.

Halftime adjustments?
What a concept!
Generally, this is where close games go sideways for Scranton & the opposition pulls away.

Playing Smart
Sammy needs to understand the big picture in real time much better than he's shown.
Too important a talent to be relegated to the bench because of avoidable & dumb fouls.

Iron Lung Award
Great job by Jon Spatola & Brendan Carr doing a little bit of everything to keep this game from slipping away & both playing nearly 40 min. each.

Talk about clutch:  Despite playing 34 minutes, Spatola hit 7-8 free throws in the last 30 seconds and scored 11 of the team's last 13 points.  Helped stave off the flurry of threes Catholic hit down the stretch!

From my mindset of an "old school" control-type offensive coach mentality, I would have used Spatola in his whole career as the crunch time(end of shot clock/half/game) executioner. He has the best chance physically of getting himself open for a good shot and/or making FTs, receiving the ball inbounds against a press, etc. His skill set(physical/mental) and effort is superior in this regard.

Definition of a SR putting the entire team on his shoulder, and shrugging off years of frustration. Talk about clutch!

A half time adjustment!

Royals win! Complete team effort that didn't back down after a really poor first half

And the third is at the Long Center, in front of a packed student section!

Stinks tomorrow is during intersession. Not that they get huge draws, but I would imagine a 13-1 Royals hosting their top rival, would draw more students on a Saturday afternoon

Quote from: saratoga on January 12, 2026, 11:11:46 PMThere was a really nice article written about the Palestra several years ago in the NY Times.
It spoke of all the little secretive stairways behind the walls & how the administration was torn between keeping it in its historical condition vs. remodeling.
The architectural firm for the Palestra also designed Cameron Indoor Stadium at Duke as well as numerous other buildings on the Blue Devil campus.

Lady Royals remain # 2 again in this weeks poll but they have lost 3 first place votes back to NYU since Week 4.
And finally, somewhere in Wisconsin a lone holdout refuses to budge on their belief that the real # 1 team is Oshkosh...by gosh.  ;D

I saw a projected bracket last night having UW-Oshkosh as the number 1 overall, pushing the Royals to 3

The soft bounce passes into the paint happened multiple times, and lead to deflections or turnovers.

Multiple times defenders got caught with their backs to the ball as Lyco came down the floor. Have to tighten both of those parts of the game.
