Bob, I'm so sorry to hear of your dad's passing. I always enjoyed sitting next to him at games and hearing his insight.

Unfortunately there's very little to analyze from Saturday night at the Shirk because the truth of the matter is that after the opening five minutes Wheaton just got punked and never responded to IWU's intensity and GanGreen played a terrific game. However, I found myself walking away scratching my head at the extremely low level of class showed by several IWU students during the game.
Kids will inevitably be kids and are trying to have a good time but several students standing on the floor opposite the Wheaton bench (one in a blue blazer, the other dressed as the banana) crossed the line in singling out one Thunder player at the end of the bench. Every program has kids who will play four years and rarely see the floor but they love the team, the game and the program and every program needs those kids. The fact that these kids singled out and then incessantly went after him for a majority of the second half including repeatedly calling him 'Radio' shows an incredible amount of ignorance and is a terrible reflection on the Titans and the institution.
I have a tremendous amount of respect for Ron Rose and his program and its a shame that their outstanding performance had to be marred by such a classless act. Even what was one of the most emotionally charged CCIW games of the season a few weeks ago at King Arena, the NCC and Wheaton fans showed respect toward the opposing players. Just a nagging thought that had stuck with me throughout the weekend. Now back to your regularly scheduled broadcast.
That banana costume was obscene.

Could NPU have said they wouldn't wait and forced IWU to forfeit?

The fact that they came so close to doing so without the services of Sarah Peterson, and with Dana Christensen relegated to three gimpy minutes on the floor before she was taken out for good, is a real testament to the grit of this NPU team.
Hopefully both teams will be at full strength by the time they see each other on Feb. 6th. Wheaton has been missing the services of Maris Hovee for the past couple games and those of Lauren Graham since early Dec.

Does anyone know if the Chicago - Wheaton game will be shown on-line?

I can't imagine NCC hosting no matter where they're ranked. That facility, while having a cool retro vibe, is a dump. When it was built, did people not need to go relieve themselves? A place that seats 2000 having such limited facilities is crazy. Add in the fact that so many seats having obstructed views because of the posts and I don't see them hosting anything.

NAPERVILLE WEATHER REPORT
Any posters coming to NCC today/night?
I'm going to be there!! Thanks for the parking update. I'll just avoid going on to campus to look for a open spot.

Actually, you're missing quite a bit, 74impala.
Exactly which statistics did you carefully review?
Perhaps you looked at rebound totals which show Schultze ranked 15th in the league while Raridon wasn't listed among the top 20 leaders. Its no secret the 6'6" 215 lb Spencer Schultze is a better rebounder than the 6'6" 190 lb (team rosters numbers) Derek Raridon.
Perhaps FG percentage? Lets see, Schultze who stands under the basket and rarely shoots anything other than a layup, ranks 3rd, and Raridon, who plays on the wing and who usually shoots from 12-19 feet, is 4th. You would think Derek would be much further down the list rather than just 1 spot lower than Schultze.
What about assists? I see Raridon is shown as being tied for 7th while Schultze doesn't appear in the top 15.
And did you consider FT percentage? Hummm, Raridon was the league leader while Schultze again does not appear among the top 15 listed.
I'm sure you also considered the Assist/Turnover Ratio figures. Yikes, Raridon was the league leader here too. And Schultze is, again, does not appear among those listed.
* Spencer Schultze is a very good basketball player. He excels at the things he does well--rebounds and making layups.
He is a valuable piece of a very good Wheaton team. AND---He gets my "heads up play" of the year award for his rebound/putback basket to send the 1st Wheaton/NCC game into OT.
However, when you consider all aspects of the game, and take into consideration ball handling, passing, shooting from the field, shooting from the line, and scoring, as well as rebounding, its plainly evident that Derek Raridon is the better overall player and thus merits higher placement than Mr. Schultze. I think most people would agree with this assessment.
Consider also Titan Q's addendum to his original post in which he listed 3 other players he felt were as deserving of 3rd team honors as Schultze, and, I believe, indicated he was giving the nod to Spencer primarily due to his being a senior.
I noticed in your argument for Raridon you don't mention anything about his defense....don't see him at the top of any defensive categories. Schultze is 7th in blocks.

For me, no changes since I first posted this a weeks or so ago. My all-CCIW team...
1st
Tim McCrary (Sr), Wheaton (Most Outstanding Player)
Jordan Zimmer (Sr), Illinois Wesleyan
Aaron Tiknis (Jr), North Central
Malcolm Kelly (Jr), Carthage
Derek Raridon (Jr), North Central
2nd
Mark Holmes (Jr), North Park
Landon Gamble (So), North Central
Bryant Voiles (Sr), Augustana
Eliud Gonzalez (Sr), Illinois Wesleyan
Zack Boyd (Sr), Elmhurst
3rd
Aaron Garriott (Jr), Wheaton
Nick Sanford (So), Elmhurst
Troy Rorer (Sr), Augustana
Mike Gabriel (So), North Park
Spencer Schultze (Sr), Wheaton
Maybe I'm missing something but I don't see how Raridon is first team while Schultze is third team. Their stats are very close to each other. Are you basing it on team records?

Greg,
This post is definitely way below your usual standards. The criticisms of Coach G are fine, but a blanket accusation that Augie players are dirty, especially with no specifics or details, smacks a bit of silly whining. You're better than that. The game of basketball has gotten a lot more physical over the past 20 years or so (truth be told, more physical than I'd prefer), but it is what it is. Augie plays a tough, physical brand of basketball, but they're hardly alone. Augie's on the receiving end of plenty of physical play as well. Last year's St. Thomas team was one of the toughest and most physical I've seen, but in no way dirty.Quote from: 74impala on February 11, 2011, 12:42:58 PM
While I can't second guess Chris Anderson's intent, the foul committed on DeMoss sure appeared flagrant. The picture published in today's Wheaton Record confirmed that opinion. It shows DeMoss in flight with Anderson still on the ground. Anderson's arm is in John's back.

Was more sorry to see the women go down, as was hoping for them to put further distance from the top contenders on the women's side. Now we have more of a race again. Tough to lose on that charge call, as Brittany had the layup and it sure didn't look like a charge from the streaming video picture and angle.

According to AndOne's posting rules, this has no business being put on the Men's CCIW chat.

According to the geriatric IWU fan that was sitting across from me, the Titans never foul. Well at least he complained about every call that went against them.
And IWU fans in internet land had to put up with the WETN homers for a couple hours this evening, so let's call it even, 74.
I'm just not use to someone that old using the kind of language I heard.
