From JohnnieRed:
The Chaska Cubs will be hosting the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Night at the Chaska Athletic Baseball Park at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, July 26, when the Cubs host St. Louis Park in town team baseball. Any MIAC school student or alum who wears a shirt or hat from their school will get into the game free.

The baseball park is located at 800 W. 1st Street in Chaska.

MIAC schools are Augsburg College, Bethel University, Carleton College, Concordia College, Gustavus Adolphus College, Hamline University, Macalester College, College of St. Benedict, St. Catherine University, St. John's University, Saint Mary's University, St. Olaf College and the University of St. Thomas.

As a special culinary delight for the event, Stiftungsfest hamburgers from Norwood Young America and Ruck's pork patties from Belle Plaine will be served. We hope to see every MIAC school represented at the game!

Per Patrick Reusse, Hamline's new AD Jason Verdugo, former baseball coach, will coach the men's team tonight against St. Olaf.  :o

Next week I'll have to post the Palmer All-MIAC FY Name team.  At first glance, there don't appear to be as many colorful or interesting names this season.  :P ;D

Kyle von Schmidt-Pauli? Tarik Hujdurovic? Sean McWhinnie? Cortez Tillman? Steele Krause?

I think you got plenty to work with!

Nelson Whitmore the new Assistant AD at Hamline? http://www.hamline.edu/HUPopUp.aspx?id=4294979430

Former Bethel and Macalester Assistant (Hamline, too, right?) Dan Perrel staying closer to home with his new job: http://www.chanvillager.com/scoreboard/briefs/dan-perrel-hired-at-mayer-lutheran/article_32c36883-688b-50e2-a85c-b52a4d8400f1.html

Good seeing a former Piper last night. Looked like he could still fire a few shots from "downtown" even in his old(er) age.  :)

Any other MIAC news out there?

Talked to Hamline SID Dave Wright and was pleased to hear positive reviews about the new AD Jason Verdugo, the coach of the baseball program since 2002 or 2003 I believe. Wright told me Verdugo expects "accountability" within the Pipers' coaching ranks.

He turned around a program that was near the bottom of the MIAC and outside of this year turned into into a perennial top-4 team in the MIAC. Football will be the toughest obviously, but there is no reason why Hamline has to be near the bottom in a lot of sports.

Also was told the first night football game (in a long time) at Hamline against Augsburg in September is a go. That should be sweet!

My first MIAC tailgate wound up being an incredibly awkward meeting with none other than the mother of Adam Denny. I know PI has that infamous photo somewhere.

I remember that pic. That was a good laugh!

Reminds me of how much I miss One-Armed Scot (and his constant shilling on behalf of those MIAC championship tailgate Stiftungsfest burgers).

Those were the good ol' times on the board. Yes, somewhere I still have pictures from that tailgate. "Welcome OneArmedScott and MIAC fans" - I mean, how Adam set it up to drink in a liquor store's parking lot on the main drag in St. Peter was pure genius. And they had a banner made up for him. When that place switched to MGM, we rented a park once.

My favorite, of course was when Pat Russell pulls up in this 350-sized truck with a grill. It was 50 degrees at 3 p.m. and 20 by 5 p.m. Plus OAS wore the cow get-up if I'm not mistaken. Good times...I wonder where Pepe is.

For COY it seems to make a lot of sense to have it shared between Tauer and Hanson. Tauer deserves a lot of credit for making adjustments after Hannon went down. Despite a couple questionable losses, which can happen in league play, they did their part to end up at the top of the league when the regular season was said and done. Hanson is also so consistent in his approach and the way his team plays that if I had to choose between the two this year, I would give it to him. Despite losing their finale, they seem to be always ready to play and you have to be at your best to beat them.

Would love nothing more than to see a GAC @ UST title game, it's a great and respectful rivalry. But here's a question that's probably been answered before... Why is the playoff title game on a Sunday? There was nothing better than the Saturday night MIAC championship game. I don't see why the 3-6 seeds can't play on Monday or Tuesday, then have the semis on Thursday or Friday and play the title game on Saturday. Some Division I conferences have teams playing games four days in a row. Something for the league decision-makers to ponder, although there has to be a valid reason for the switch that I missed. A Sunday title game just makes no sense to me.

In any case, should be one of the more competitive tournaments in recent memory. St. Olaf and Augsburg can beat anybody on any given day. Good luck to the Tommies, it would be nice for them to get back to the NCAAs after winning it all last year.

Conspiracy to kill the D3Hoops MIAC Board annual tailgate.

Big night...no big surprises

Augsburg 63, Carleton   49
St. Thomas   69, Bethel   55
Hamline 72,   Saint Mary's 51
Saint John's 63, Macalester 53
Gustavus 61, Concordia 43

Schedule for Saturday - with projections
Bethel @ Gustavus - GAC
Carleton @ St. Olaf - STO
Concordia @ Saint John's - SJU
Hamline @ Macalester - HAM
Saint Mary's @ St. Thomas - UST

IF BET, HAM AND SJU all win...

1. Head-to-Head (is this used with three teams?
* HAM: BET 1-1, SJU 0-2
* SJU: BET 1-1, HAM 2-0
* BET: HAM 1-1, SJU 1-1

2. Combined results against teams above those tied
* HAM: 2-6
* SJU: 2-6
* BET: Would be 4-4 with a win

So, I believe BET gets in as the No. 5 and then they go back to first tie-breaker as SJU swept HAM so they would get No. 6.
