December 08, 2025, 10:33:24 AMQuote from: SimpleCoach on December 08, 2025, 10:23:02 AMThis correct. They played a possession style on route to their championship over Amherst more direct style. Whatever style one team plays it is up to them. If it makes them successful than go with it. As one person said, you don't get style points for looking pretty. You get points for winning. Personally I prefer the possession style but with a purpose.Quote from: blue_jays on December 08, 2025, 09:54:29 AMQuote from: Coach.myers on December 07, 2025, 09:03:25 PMNESCAC soccer isn't pretty, but they have won 8 of the last 11 tournaments and have had a team in 10 of 11 semis. Last possession oriented team to win was Messiah.
Apparently you don't watch enough soccer. University of Chicago put together one of the greatest seasons in D3 history in 2022 en route to an undefeated title where they beat a NESCAC team in the final 2-0. UChicago has been possession oriented and technical since Mike Babst arrived in 2013 and brought the program to new heights.
I would also add St. Olaf to that list in 2023 ...

From a LL standpoint hopefully we don't see too many more leave teams.I hope so too but 2 out of 3 of the last rookies of the years left for NESAC teams and they got to play in the championship game. On another note congrats to Brady Leitner and the kid from Vassar for getting All American honors.

December 02, 2025, 08:24:00 PMQuote from: Saint of Old on December 01, 2025, 02:42:07 PMThat was definitely a change because in 93 we had a chance to go but the administration did not want to pay for us to go. That didn't sit well with us or a lot of people especially since tuition, room and board was so high. It definitely does give you confidence.Quote from: Ejay on December 01, 2025, 01:35:24 PMMy Junior year we won the ECAC tournament. It was awesome. My senior year, nobody wanted to play in it. It was a frustrating year and we just wanted it over. We made the finals and it was 38 degrees, raining, with 30 MPH winds. The absolute worst game to finish your career on. I was never so happy to be subbed off in the second half. With about 15 minutes to play, coach asked me to go back in. I said, "nah, I'm good. Let one of the younger kids play".We won the ECACs in 97' my Freshman year.
In hindsight, it was the beginning of the 60 game win streak that saw us win the NCAA in '99.
ECAC Titles are a big deal man and does a lot for team confidence and building.
I think most of us would definitely want to lace them up a few times more if given the opportunity. For the boys playing now and especially this weekend. Enjoy it man.
You will be thinking about these moments for as long as you live.

November 23, 2025, 08:56:53 PMQuote from: Hopkins92 on November 23, 2025, 07:07:17 PMThe board was pretty wonky and I couldn't post for a bit.I saw what the final pk taker did after he score and I just couldn't believe it so rewind it. Sure enough he did right in front of the Dickinson's bench. He is very lucky he didn't get hit. Very unsportsmanlike in my opinion.
Emory stole that game in PKs. They were exhausted and Dickinson just couldn't seal the deal. Even in Pks, they made the first save and looked like they had momentum.
I don't want to go all NESCAC-level drama here, but the final PK winner from Emory went right over to the Dickinson bench to do the CR cellie... Extremely disrespectful and unnecessary and almost turned into a brawl. Just... why?
He was interviewed after the game and said, straight up, Dickinson was the better team on the day. Take your W and Final Four berth and move on.
I will say, Dickinson's bench is VERY vocal. When my boys were getting walked off the field in the CC finals, I am old enough to find the humor in the taunting, but... I can see why their yapping might lead to what Emory did at the end.

November 22, 2025, 05:09:18 PMQuote from: SimpleCoach on November 22, 2025, 02:10:58 PMI have know idea what the Augsburg keeper was thinking on that PK. It looked like he was trying to stall for time but forgot that he was running out of room. As a coach once asked a teammate of mind What were you thinking? Never mind because if you were thinking you would not have done it.Quote from: Kuiper on November 22, 2025, 02:05:02 PMQuote from: WUPHF on November 22, 2025, 01:56:37 PMQuote from: Kuiper on November 22, 2025, 01:06:28 PMHALF: Augsburg 0 - Cortland 0
Augsburg is pressuring and out-shooting Cortland 7-1, but Cortland is not breaking yet. Ott, Cortland's GK, has three saves in the first half.
UPDATE: Cortland 1 - Augsburg 0
Cortland scores on a breakaway down the left wing that is crossed in on the ground and shut one time with the left foot by Josh Carroll for the goal about 4 minutes into the second half.
Augsburg scored and then scored again to take the lead. 2-1 in St. Louis thanks to to Carver Tierney goals.
2-2 now on another Carroll goal in the 82nd minute
Cortland can thank the Augsburg keeper for the PK. Dumbest thing Keepers do.... leads to a dumb decision...

I understand that it is emotional game but character and how one conducts himself when one is face with adversity is more important than any game.Quote from: Futbolguy on November 17, 2025, 03:50:26 PMQuote from: camosfan on November 17, 2025, 02:44:44 PMThey got hosed by the ref on a clear goal on a corner and trip in the box by Wheaton GK. 2 PKs for Wheaton (both saved by Midd GK) - lots of home cooking. I dont see Wheaton getting past sweet 16.Quote from: Soccerlover on November 17, 2025, 11:30:35 AMAnother year without a trophy for Middlebury, what a disappointing team
They ended well given the start they had!
Whether they got "hosed" or not, it still does not excuse the behavior post game. In case anyone missed it, the Middlebury player ran at a Wheaton player after the final whistle and ended up pushing the 4th official to the ground. The player was red carded.
A shocking and grotesque display of behavior and something I have only seen one other time at the Division 3 level (Umass Boston several years ago). I am surprised no one has commented on this!

You're right but I don't care where you come from, playing in the snow is just tough. I have played in it several times and I don't wish it on anybody. Hats off to all the teams that advance and to those that did not good luck to all the seniors in their future endeavors. The memories and friends that you have made these past 4 years will last a lifetime.

Should be an interesting second half.I saw some that game. Just miserable conditions but such is the life in central NY this time of year. They played on football field and could barely see the football lines let alone the penalty box. Hats off to maintenance crew for trying to make the field reasonable to play.

It depends on the team. Some are consistent and they play their style no matter what. Some like to play that short passing game and play from the back even in bad weather. I saw a little bit of that Messiah/Hobart game yesterday and from what I saw that was not your typical Messiah team you would see in the past of playing from the back, short passing/posession style game that I have watched in previous years. Hobart also plays that style. Some teams might not have the players to do that. There is a saying that let the ball do the work. The ball doesn't sweat.

Messiah and likely Calvin will be challenging. It must have been cool in 1999 when SLU won it all, I can understand the frustration with the results recently.
We are living vicariously through the Statesmen with former SLU great Rob Brandell on the sidelines as the assistant coach.
It's the only thing we have going for us.

Year after year they are a very competitive program.
Would be amazing to see them climb that mountain for the league.
Secretly, I was hoping to see Vassar win so the league could have their 2nd team make the dance, but Vassar will be back strong next season I'm sure.
I was too as I was hoping that the league will get two in then. Hats off to Hobart as they have no losses going into the tournament. congrats to all the players who made all league.

I don't think that got a good draw though. Although Messiah has beendown this year their reputation precedes itself and then they may have to take on Calvin. They were placed in the Tufts region. I am hoping they do well and wish them luck. They have a nice team.
