There was some pushing and shoving going on late in the NPU @ Millikin game. Around 19 seconds left. Can see it on the stream. It looked like 2 players got involved on the field but it appeared some players may have come off the bench. They called offsetting unsportsmanlike penalties but wondering if anyone heard of any repercussions from it.

I watched Illinois Wesleyan vs Wheaton. Wheaton is a very good team but not dominant.

Wesleyan did all they could to hang on and keep it competitive. If they had to play their backup QB again they would be fine against everyone else on their schedule other than North Central.

Smyth does open up the running game though. They missed that. I think they rushed for 11 yards. They had to throw 56 times on Saturday.

Yes IWU D looking better this year. I tell you what if the backup starts against Carroll in 2 weeks, I would love to see him try 56 attempts.

I don't have any information on IWU QB Dermot Smyth other than seeing the play vs Augie where a defensive lineman landed on Smyth with his throwing shoulder smashing into the ground. Smyth played one more play and then I could see him trying to throw short passes on the sideline. He did not return and his coach described it afterwards as a "sprained shoulder". Smyth is obviously a huge piece of the IWU attack as both a passer and a runner (he is their leading rusher).

IWU and Wheaton have a common opponent in Albion (both games played at Sprankel-Sprandel Stadium). IWU won 24-10 in a game that was 10-10 going into the 4th quarter. IWU gained 325 yds and Albion put up 264.

Wheaton won 45-3 and gained 451 yds to Albion's 153.

Smyth is listed in the IWU Game Notes as the starter vs. Wheaton but, depending on the severity of his injury, that could just be the Weenie SID blowing some green smoke out his rear end. If Smyth is able to play it should be a close game quite likely highlighted by a battle between Smyth and Wheaton QB Forcucci.
If Smyth is truly severely injured to the point of not being able to play, Wheaton will win by a significant margin.

Carthage @ Carroll is at 6:00 along with NPU @ Millikin. I hope both afternoon games don't turn into blowouts. A lot of bye weeks across D3 this week too.

J.B. on the in the D3FB huddle podcast says he doesn't see Wheaton as the #3 team. The Mount Union win looking less impressive now.
On the OAC board they are saying there are a couple other teams in that conference that could beat Mount Union. One more loss and they'll miss the playoffs for the first time since I think 1991...at least that's what google is telling me.

Was going to ask if anyone knew what happened to Smyth. When I turned on the game, I saw the backup was in.  Hard to tell based on the play-by-play when he got hurt as IWU only attempted 1 pass in the 4th qtr.

I took a look this morning at the archive. Late 3rd Q, under a minute left. It's second down, pass play, gets pressure, rolls to his right, pass incomplete but he takes a big hit. Stayed in for one more play then they punted and he didn't come back next possession.
