If you want more back stories on the Calvin - Grove City game, Eli Ribbe, who has been an assistant coach at Grove City for the last four seasons, graduated from Calvin, where he was a three year captain of Calvin's JV soccer team.

Here's a great story from the Calvin school newspaper about the experience of playing JV that includes several quotes from Ribbe, who also graduated summa cum laude from Calvin.  His connection may be how Grove City came to travel to Michigan to play Calvin and Hope for the first time ever this season, and also puts non-varsity teams in a positive light, which isn't a perspective you often hear.

The Calvin/Grove City game is also a family affair.  Older brother Athan Ladas (Calvin) faces his younger brother Luke Ladas (Grove City).

Quote from: calvin_grad on August 26, 2025, 02:09:33 PMXtreme Hauk, reigning "Freshman of the Year" in the MIAA, is not back at Calvin this fall.  Anyone know where he is attending?

I did a little search. I didn't see any news about him attending another university, but I did see a news article about his rejoining the Lansing Common Football Club, a semipro Midwest Premier League team.

My understanding is that he is at Calvin but focusing on academics this year.

Despite the announcer I'm pretty sure Calvin switched goalkeepers. The new keeper is Zak Moore.

Calvin claims the AQ for MIAA. 2 - 1 victory over Trine.

MIAA might claim 2 spots as Hope is right on the bubble.

MIAA coaches preseason poll has been released

1. Calvin (6 first place votes)
2. Hope (2)
3. Trine
4. Albion
5. Olivet
6. Kalamazoo
7. Alma
8. Adrian

[Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own team].

I think this will be tighter for Calvin than most years. They graduated a number of significant players - 7 all MIAA players from last year.

Calvin University

Starting with a local set of games against Letourneau and Lake Forest College (wouldn't be surprised if both also played Hope College that same weekend). Then off to Oregon to play Willamette and Pacific Lutheran. The rest of the non-conference looks similar to last few years: University of Chicago, Ohio Wesleyan and several other Ohio schools.
