Quote from: DickWhitman on May 04, 2025, 10:11:17 PMFirst conference upset, NPI 129 Huntingdon wins the CCS.

BTW, which conference is Trinity heading to?

The SAA.  Most of the SAA members were part of the SCAC before splitting off in 2011, so it'll be a renewal of some old rivalries.  Only Berry is "new" though they've seen each other in football and occasionally in the post-season.

Southwestern is also coming along, same applies to them.

Dallas had their Pool B basketball bid in 03-04.  The football discussion was prior to that.  The idea was to start a club team and if successful make it a varsity sport but it never got that far although a couple of potential players did enroll and did graduate playing rugby.

You can take Dallas out of the consideration for a football startup.  It was considered around 2000 and roundly dismissed.  Nothing has changed to reverse that thought.

When the ASC started it was really just a name change from the TIAA by the commissioner motivated by the fact that schools from outside Texas were becoming members.  I remember the meeting in Abilene well hosted by McMurry.  The Mississippi College delegation flew in on a private jet provided by the founder of Excel Communications.

Quote from: TheChucker on March 19, 2025, 02:20:18 PMNot making annual treks to northern Arkansas (maybe multiple) and Colorado for several sports might have been a factor.

If my spreadsheet fu is working, and the NCAA travel calculator is working...  (for All of the SCAC schools, not just football)

The Average trip distance for McMurry goes from ~358 to ~160 with the shortest trip being HSU at 4 miles and longest trip ETBU at 336.

For Schreiner, the average trip distance goes from ~378 to ~216.  All around, much less travel.

On a funny note, I was lazy and asked ChatGPT what the religious affiliations of the DIII Texas universities and it thought UMHB was going DII as of the fall of 2024 :D :D :D.
The 358 miles to 160 miles per contest for 10 years is at least hundreds of thousands of dollars in travel expense.

Please remember that UOzarks, Miss  College and SRSU were charter members in 1996. They needed each other to get D3 of the ground in this part of the country. UDallas, McM, Austin College, HPU & HSU were glad to have them.

Dallas was an independent for about 10 years.  Difficult, but doable.  Didn't have football though which would be a horse of a different color.

Quote from: WashJeff68 on January 04, 2025, 07:04:05 AMScary that the PAC has four schools on this list - Hiram, Thiel, Chatham, and Waynesburg. Not long ago I took a deep dive into Form 990's for PAC schools, and based on that I am very surprised Bethany College is not on this list.
So am I.  Bethany Class of 61.

Quote from: Ron Boerger on September 25, 2024, 11:24:18 AMA game against a D2 or NAIA school is a game.  A week off or a scrimmage against a non-NCAA/NAIA affiliated program is not.
Countable games are those against varsity teams of 4 year degree granting institutiions that conduct a majority of their competition against varsity intercollegiate teams of United States four year degree granting institutions.  An exception to that is games against Newport News Apprentice School.  Exeception was granted many years ago and apparently still in effect.  They have 4 D3 schools on their schedule this year.
