4 NESCAC teams in the top 10 for fouls.

Is this a new style for W&L? Are they strategically tactically fouling to disrupt attacks?

Quote from: Hopkins92 on Today at 02:51:18 PMUnless something has changed, and I don't think it has, OT in college soccer (conf championships and NCAA playoffs) there is no golden or silver goal. Two 10 min periods are played. Still tied = PKs.

they changed back to Golden Goal in OT for NCAAs

UMW beat CNU 1-0 with a header off a corner in the 81st minute

Quote from: NEPAFAN on Yesterday at 09:11:38 AMI notice Messiah is going to finish with a winning record in the regular season. Have they found a groove?
they have found a groove in beating the weak teams of the MACC. Best win is 1-0 over NPI 121 Stevenson.

with regards to the Salisbury @ CNU matchup, based on the games played against UMW in the last week I would say that the Sea Gulls are the stronger squad. Lots of good young players on Salisbury that play a nice style.

for Mary Washington it is really clear the reason for the drop. They graduated 19 players that garnered 95% of the minutes. Only two returning starters (Macek & Amarose) and 2 other players that played measurable minutes (Hoskins, Valoyi). With just 6 seniors and 4 juniors on the roster it is a young squad.

Quote from: Flying Dutch Fan on October 02, 2025, 12:13:29 PMQuick question - is it at all typical fro D3 schools to play D1 in soccer (and not as an exhibition game)?   Was surprised to see Hope played at #23 Notre Dame on Tuesday, losing 3-2 on an ND goal at the 82:36 mark.

Don't know if it's common, but UMW has played at UVA the last couple of years. UMW entered last years game at 15-0-1, went up 2-0 early but lost 4-2.
went down 3-0 early with a really bad OG. came back to make it 3-2 & forced UVA to bring back on some starters. UMW starters did not play full minutes so it was a very good showing. UVA players admitted that they did no advance prep work (no film review for example) and were not prepared for a competitive match

The C2C was pulled together with old members of the Capital Athletic Conference that over a couple of years saw defections - Frostburg to D2, PSU Harrisburg to NEAC, York to the MAC, St Marys to UEC. This left Salisbury, CNU & UMW needing more schools in order to get AC status. I guess fortunately there were enough other orphaned schools out there UCSC & the UW schools looking for partners. Once the schools from around the country were brought in the CAC was rebranded to the C2C.
CNU & UMW are a little larger (3500-4000) than most ODAC schools (1500-3000) but not by much.

the UMW player you reference is #2 Sammy Amarose. He is very difficult to defend 1v1. Seems like a lot of teams a sending 2-3 players at him this year. Last year he played up top with Carter Berg - this year he is dropping deeper to get on the ball.

I haven't actually seen any UMW games this season...are they still running a 3-5-2? Messiah seem to have changed to a 4-4-2 diamond, last I saw (someone correct me if I'm wrong)...

UMW seem to be trying a couple of different alignments but Kilbe definitely prefers the 3-5-2. UMW is struggling on the offensive side of the ball. not as creative in the midfield and the wingbacks are not as dynamic as the past few years.

Quote from: Freddyfud on September 09, 2025, 12:52:52 PMImpressed with the play of both Hampden-Sydney and Roanoke so far.  HS was outplaying Covenant in the first half on Saturday (but I guess the game was postponed?)  And Roanoke has a quality #6 in senior Ryan Pidgeon. Could this be the year a team other than Lynchburg or W&L wins the conference?
Right on queue - HS up 2-0 on UMW with 10 left in 1st half. Stream is behind a paywall so just looking at box score. 2nd goal was apparently OG
Update: 3-0 final. HS hands UMW their worst loss in 10 years.

I would add that the student athlete needs to think about and understand what he/she wants from the college experience. This will help narrow the list of schools to target.
Is playing for a team that will compete for postseason a priority?
is playing for a team at academically strong institution a priority (sure it would be nice if they were competitive but that isn't always possible)?
How important is playing time (i.e. will they quit/transfer if they don't get PT?)?

with regards to ID camps - most of big ones are to get a few extra $$ for the coaching staff - Villanova camp comes to mind but at least they provide specific written feedback. If going to one, would set up a formal meeting with the staff - if they won't give a you a meeting then they probably are not really interested.

when at showcases I would try to have a parent connect with every college coach watching to ask if they are interested in any particular player or position (not necessarily your own) - you will be surprised with what you find out.

I think maybe we do not know who the really good teams are yet. I think of few of the legacy teams of the past couple of years are in transition somewhat due to the rolling off of 5th year players. The start of the year is always a bit rough with the integration of new players as coaches figure out their rotations.
