Quote from: SpringSt7 on November 01, 2025, 06:04:25 PMJust another incredible chapter in the Wesleyan torture chamber for the Ephs. Up 28-14 with 6 minutes left it looked like potentially the best win in the post Maimaron era for Williams. Two scores later, then a blocked FG in OT for good measure, 34-28 final. Somehow maybe the worst Wesleyan loss, and there have been a lot of bad ones. Woof

Before anyone says if and buts. Like if Johansen was there they run it out, etc.  bottom line is he wasn't there to do so and I don't understand their approach to ending games the last few years.  Rushing 3 and playing prevent is crazy.  They do not have d-backs that can keep up. Easy to be a Monday morning quarterback but I feel like they hope to win as opposed to play to win since Bobby M era.

What a devastating loss for the Ephs. They just don't know how to put teams away. I was hoping they would go on 4th down in OT as I didn't see 3 points being enough. The long completions in the 2nd half by Wes were basically hail mary jump balls which to their credit they won everyone.  This one is going to hurt for a while

Quote from: Trin9-0 on October 24, 2025, 03:56:41 PMWow. No argument that Trinity is a heavy favorite over Bowdoin, but a 35 point spread on the road is really something. I think the d3lines.com number (Trin -28) is closer to what we should expect. In the last four meetings between the two, Trinity's average margin of victory is 27.3.

The Bants are looking dangerous and Bowdoin might return to their typical form following the big upset win last week but I'd take the Polar Bears and the points.

Agree especially this year as it seems like any given
Saturday.....can't see the home team losing by 35+

So after further review I think it is a good line

Quote from: Charlie on October 22, 2025, 01:59:14 PMI just think in the next two to three years you will see a more clearer division of football talent in the NESCAC if you have not already.

it will be interesting to see how it plays out. I think the roster limits will have an impact on team's ability to load up on volumes of talent. Coaches have to build their teams with injuries in mind. Mentioned in another post Colby only having 3 QB's on roster. That is not a recipe for a playoff run.

I would like to see the schools have an expanded emergency roster and let them play a couple JV games. Would allow teams to recruit 5 QB's like Williams did a few years ago and develop them before the kids get frustrated and switch positions or worse quit.

I've got different information on Colby QB situation- I'm told Drake went out with an injury. Do you know for a fact that is not the case?

I am hearing new starter for Mules this weekend. Not sure based on injury or what.

Quote from: nescac1 on October 20, 2025, 05:25:12 PMNext year's Eph receiving core COULD be the most talented by a wide, wide margin in Raymond's tenure, assuming everyone eligible is back and healthy - Falls, Stahelski (who averaged 20 ypc as a deep ball threat last year), Gehring, Machnik, Montesano at tight end, plus maybe McHugh joins the skill position brigade as well.  But for now, the Ephs will continue to mix and match at WR and DB (and I guess QB, I'm curious what the deal with Johansen is, certainly) to figure it out for the next three weeks.

Agree who ever is the Ephs QB next year has to be salivating at the receiving options. Hell put Johansen, McHugh, and Renzella on the field for a play and the creative play calling options are endless

But back to this year. I have no insight but I am hoping (praying) Raymond played it safe sitting Johansen last week as he did come back into game the prior week. He has that it factor and needs to be on the field no matter what position. If memory serves me right he was dominate as a LB in high-school as well.

Quote from: nescac1 on October 18, 2025, 01:18:18 PMAnd ugghhh no Johansen for Williams.  Ephs simply can't catch a break with injuries this year.

Next man up. Renzella came in same class as McHugh and Johansen. I guess you can never recruit too many QB's.

Am I the only one who thinks we need to pump the brakes on the Mammoths?

This didn't age well as the crazy NESCAC year continues. The little three could be epic this year.

Quote from: Former CAC Coach on September 27, 2025, 04:20:26 PMA six-way tie for first place in the NESCAC after three games - no remaining undefeated teams mean a wild season is going to be even more puzzling to figure out week to week.

Amherst looked like its old self in the first half - dominating defense and opportunistic offense with some big chunk plays....not sure the same offense showed up in the 2nd half though.  Great win for Coach Mills!

You beat me to post, good to hear Amherst is back

What a game in Williamstown! Anyone at Tufts/Amherst with some insight?  Is Amherst for real or was Tufts overrated?  Really a season of any given Saturday anyone can win.

I talked to some Colby people and they said 2 things;

1. They were with out their OC today to which I don't see that as a complete excuse for their lackluster performance.

2. They said the Ephs were VERY physical on both sides of the ball. I think the proverbial punched in the face over and over took its toll.

I hope they have plenty of ice for the ride back to Waterville.

Quote from: nescac1 on September 20, 2025, 02:20:41 PMAlmost feels like old times with Trinity, Amherst and Williams all up big in the first half.

A few notes from Colby - Williams.  Good to see Owen Johansen open it up a bit more with the pass, with mixed results, but his stats would have been better but for a few drops.  He's still learning in the passing game clearly and has an unorthodox throwing motion, but he throws a very accurate ball and if he's not the best athlete in NESCAC football, he has to be in the top three, in addition to the huge TD run where he outran the entire defense, he had some other strong ones including one he ended by throwing a defender to the ground.  Simply an alpha overall athlete who could play anywhere on the field.  On the downside you never want to see an INT in the red zone and that was a play he needs to tuck it and run.  Oh, and kudos to Riley O'Connoll for a nasty pancake lead block that helped spring Johansen on the big run.

Two other notes for the offense - Montesano now has three career catches, all for TDs.  He's a nice weapon in the red zone; hopefully he can get more involved in other situations.  Zach Falls looked good filling in for injured Stahelski as the big target on the outside with his first three career catches.  He was a big-time player at Duxbury and looks very athletic with a lot of wiggle for his size, hopefully he can emerge as a bigger weapon as the year goes along.

For Williams on defense, the story has been the D line which has harassed Drake all day including with two big strip sacks.  Ben Yedid has been a menace and Jack Barber will surely be chirping about his (which he also recovered) against his old high school buddy for years to come.  Wyatt Cotton had an excellent half with some great coverage on Nye and an interception.

On the down side, for the second straight game, the Ephs gave up a first down on a punting play, this time with roughing the kicker, and had some issues in the kick-off game as well.

This game is definitely not over as Colby showed last year that it come back from a deficit in a hurry with a big downfield passing attack.  But Williams so far has done an excellent job limiting Nye's opportunities and giving Drake very little time to throw.

Colby had done a good job slowing down the Eph running backs, who have had little room to operate, but obviously will want to focus more on stopping the QB runs in the second half.

Owen Johansen is a beast and a nightmare to tackle. Throw in the passing (pun intended) this week and this once one dimensional offense is potentially legit.  If the push tush is unstoppable it feels like Johansen with the ball is a guaranteed 4 yard plus play.

So if a 4 star recruit with FBS offers doesn't start after transferring to D3 what are we to make of that? Is Trinity and the CAC closer to that level of play or is the kid over rated or is this just a week 1 thing?

10 days and counting. Anyone have any insight as to the QB battles around the CAC?
