It's May 1st which means NESCAC programs can officially announce their incoming recruiting classes (or choose not to, if you're Williams).
Here's who Trinity is bringing to The Coop this fall:

The class size (29) indicates last year's slightly smaller class may have been more of a blip than a trend for Trinity who has averaged 29.8 incoming players over the past 7 recruiting cycles.

2025 - 26
2024 - 29
2023 - 32
2022 - 33
2021 - 29
2020 - 31
2019 - 29

As usual, Connecticut (8) and Massachusetts (8) make up the majority of the class. A year after bringing in 5 recruits from New Jersey Trinity nabs 6 from the Garden State (much to the chagrin of Nescacman, I'm sure). With a haul of 7 WRs last year there's only 2 in this class. Meanwhile last year the Bants had only three Offensive Linemen, while this year they add 7 new faces to the OL room. I'm somewhat surprised that for the THIRD year in a row Trinity has brought in only one Quarterback.

It appears Hamilton is the only other league school to begin announcing their recruiting class (they've shared three).

Trinity has posted their 2026 recruting class on Xitter (and on IG/FB, but easier to track on Xitter).  A class of 38, almost exclusively from Texas, and I don't see any transfers but it's possible there are some but just the HS is listed.  38 is actually a bit on the large size for an incoming Tiger class.

DBs: 6 (4 S, 1 DB, 1 CB)
K/P: 1
QB: 2
WR: 4 (see below)
OL: 9
LB: 4 (3 LB, 1 R)
TE: 3 (2 TE, 1 H)
RB: 3
DT: 6

The one name that jumped out to me as on old-timer is Canaan Factor.  Yes, fellow old-timers, that is the son of the Canaan Factor who still holds some receiving records at Trinity, including most receiving yards in a game and longest reception from scrimmage, from his time around the turn of the century.  At 6'2" with speed from track and hops from playing basketball at Fort Worth Country Day, he should make an excellent addition to the receiver corps.

That doesn't mean they don't belong in DIII, it just means it can feel a little unfair to those other institutions. But that's a conference decision, and I suspect the Presidents in the CC like being under the halo of being spoken of in the same breath as JHU, even if it is in sports and not medical research.

This halo effect works in reverse situations as well. Look no further than Caltech, which for decades has been dragged around like an anchor by the rest of the SCIAC, competitively speaking, because the cachet of sharing a conference with one of the most distinguished and prestigious research institutions on the entire planet was important enough for the rest of the SCIAC schools to retain the membership of an opponent that they beat like a rug in almost every sport year after year after year. To a lesser degree this halo effect characterized Macalester's relationship to the rest of the MIAC for many years as well, especially with regard to football.

It's common for current students to be somewhat myopic to the big-picture relationships that schools have with each other. There's certainly more to how schools relate to other institutions, both within and outside of conferences, than scoreboards and standings.
The SCIAC is on an island, and Caltech was an early member.  The admissions process required the professors to approve the students directly.  Maybe THAT was the reverse halo effect you mention.  They changed this a few years ago and actually encourage team membership (varsity or intramural) because that is part of the world they will work in.  The coaches now have some input. They still have trouble in some sports.  Everybody has trouble with pitchers.
I remember the national NPR news when they beat Oxy in basketball after years without a SCIAC win.

In the past there was a lot a bad vibes on the SCIAC basketball board about Caltech because some of the posters think D3 is all about winning.

I had the DH on while I was working.  That chopper I thought the 1B was going to catch it.  I agree I think the 2B got caught by surprise a little when it got by.  I didn't see the throw in from RF

The other one that was a head scratcher was the grounder to 3B that was a routine play.  I couldn't tell 100% whether it was a bad throw or a bad catch at 1B, but it was not a tough play on either end and the runner was safe.  Those are the ones as a pitcher that you're just shaking your head.  Not that Mount is the '27 Yankees, but they've got some sticks and I don't want to give them free ABs.

more than a men's soccer topic, but Merchant Marine in the Skyline Conference (and increasingly Cortland in the SUNYAC) are other examples of schools that are eating at the kiddie table when they should be taking their meals with the grownups.

You probably already knew this but I was doing some research and found this interesting. Since the beginning of the NIL/Transfer Portal era, roughly 40% of Division 1 football players find themselves without another team every year. Some drop a division and/or go the walk on route at another school without a scholarship. Some willing enter the Portal because of coaching changes etc.and others are told they will be losing their scholarship because their coach is looking to target certain players entering the Portal. It's kind of like the real world, don't quit a job unless you already have another one secured.

I really ought to think about copyrighting the term "footprint sustainability".  ;)
