Down to 51 combinations of 3rd placed teams. Bosnia & Herzegovina (group B), Ecuador (group E), and Sweden (group F) have qualified while Paraguay (group D) advances in 50 (only combination is if A, C, D, and I are eliminated).

US will face Bosnia & Herzegovina.
Mexico has 23 vs Ecuador, 18 H, 10 Scotland
Switzerland has 25 vs G, 15 J, 8 Ecuador, 2 I, 1 Sweden
Germany has 45 vs Paraguay, 5 Scotland, 1 Sweden
Group G winner has 35 vs South Korea, 8 H, 6 J, 2 I
Group I winner has 49 vs Sweden, 1 Paraguay, 1 G
Group K winner has 26 vs L, 12 Ecuador, 8 I, 4 Paraguay, 1 J
Group L winner has 26 vs K, 13 I, 8 Ecuador, 4 J

If South Korea ends up advancing, they are guaranteed to face the group G winner. That match would be the 2nd round opponent for the US.

We may see another former D3 playing in the NBA in the next year or two. Aaron Nkrumah, who played two years at Worcester State before transferring to Tennessee State has signed an Exhibit 10 contract with the Denver Nuggets.  He still has a ways to go but he will play on the Nuggets summer league team with the hope that he might get a two way contract (or more).  Nkrumah attended Nichols for a semester but did not play for the Bison. He transferred back home to Worcester and led WSU to back to back regular season and tournament championships before stepping up to Div 1 Tenn State.

Quote from: Dr. Acula on Yesterday at 01:14:47 PMNot a comment on D3 or Bowden, but in general I like the 5 in 5 rule if it provides clarity for both schools and athletes.  Between COVID and the complete lawlessness D1 is having currently it'd be great to get back to some clear rules everyone can follow.

Also, I saw there are now 4 D1 recruits that have transferred to Massillon this offseason.  Perpetual free agency from D1 down to high school is just how stuff works now it seems.

Massillon's recruiting budget dwarfs Mount's for sure

Are we done with 24-25 year old D3 players?

I agree.  Went up there the year after I graduated for a football game.  Wish we had their fieldhouse!

They are expanding, too.  Just paid what seems to be a ridiculous amount of money for the "Food City Sports Complex".  Either lights and parking lots cost a lot more than I realized or they must not care. I've seen figures between $13.5 and 15 million.  Lost of articles with not many pictures of plans or updates.  Did find one with the term "Phase 1" so maybe that's the difference in my monetary expectations. E&H Food City Sports Complex

For reference, Maryville spent $3 million on their track a couple years ago.

A little late to the game on the NIL discussion and how to keep D3 athletes from portaling......not sure there is a great answer but I do know the Ivy League is actively wrestling with this. They have lost some big time players to the portal (Princeton's Xavian Lee played at UFlorida last year for $6M, Danny Wolfe left Yale after 2 years for Michigan, Penn and Harvard lost their best freshmen recently to Villanova and Georgetown). Ivy's are the only D1 that doesn't offer scholarships and has also banned most NIL collectives. But Fran McCaffrey (former Iowa HC) is at Penn and is rethinking the pitch. Tommy Amaker is HC at Harvard (former Duke player) and has always sold the "40 year decision" over the 4 year decision. McCaffrey has enlisted alums to guarantee recruits summer internships and jobs and Penn recently got a former 5 start Duke recruit to transfer there (via Univ of Virginia) and lead them to the NCAA tournament last year.

I think some schools can sell the alumni network and long term decision and may also be able to leverage the alumni network for opportunities. In the CCIW that certainly includes IWU and Wheaton and I would think some of the others would have similar strengths to provide.

The scholarship plus upfront cash of 100k a year (or more) that even these mid majors are now offering is tough to compete with but many D3's offer a higher quality education and network that can be leveraged more effectively IMO.

Emory

Emory follows up a 16-2-4 season and Final Four appearance with some non-conference travel after staying close to home for all but two of their non-conference games in 2025.  They open with a trip to Sewanee, play Belhaven and Brevard at its Sonny Carter classic and then travels to Southern California to play Redlands and Cal Lutheran.  It rounds out non-conference play with Pfeiffer, McMurray, and Berry at home, before playing Huntingdon away, Piedmont at home, and Covenant away.
