You were at the 1999 D-III men's basketball title game?

Last post by ziggy - Yesterday at 07:31:48 PMQuote from: Greek Tragedy on Yesterday at 12:02:26 PMIt seems there were more upsets in years past. 15 out of 16 seems really high. You are obviously right, hosting means you're supposed to be favored, so it's no surprise the winning % is usually pretty high for hosts. Well deserved too.
You are right about fewer upsets, and it wasn't just among hosts.
This last weekend saw favorites out-perform expectation according to D3 Datacast efficiency ratings win probabilities by about 2.5 wins each day. This was a flip from the first weekend last year when underdogs out-performed by about 3.5 wins each day.
Interesting that while upsets were down this year, it brings things pretty well in line with expectations over a two year span.

I went back just to last year's, and hosts went 22-8 if I counted right. I'd have to do more digging to see how stuff was pre-NPI.

If a school IS hosting a national meet/event or didn't file the necessary papers then it's unavoidable.
You answered your question.
But even on a team's home floor, yes, things such as PA announcements and fan placement can be made more neutral.
Can confirm from personal experience.
Which is also probably fair because if I had been let loose for the couple NCAA Tournament weekends NCC has hosted they'd still be cleaning pieces of me from the rafters of the hangar after the Greatest Back Door Cut of All Time.

Region 1 men's basketball / Re: MBB: NESCAC
Last post by D3BBALL - Yesterday at 05:55:33 PMQuote from: nescac1 on Yesterday at 04:39:49 PMI mean, Emory has the best backcourt in the country, so I think safe to say it's the best backcourt Yeshiva has faced all year! Some other great ones left in the tourney for sure, RMC, Trinity, Wesleyan, Hood, UChicago, Mary Washington ... but Emory has to be the best.I'm surprised you don't have Bowdoin on this list, lol.
Seriously I still think of Vetter as a guard, I know he plays the small forward, but I will be a NESCAC Conference fare weather fan and choose Vetter and Lazarre as best backcourt in the country. They both shoot it better than Emory and Vetter and Lazarre, in close games, just find a way to get it done. If they ever play against each other, whoever Lazarre guards, it is going to be a great match up to watch.

Last post by D3BBALL - Yesterday at 05:49:12 PMQuote from: NEhoops on Yesterday at 04:06:53 PMYeshiva is only real outlier remaining from an NPI standpoint (#64). They had an impressive win against Maine-Farmington and Samet only scored 16 points (on 5-17 from the field).Yeshiva will need their front court to shoot the ball well to take pressure off Samet. Zakheim will need to protect the ball as well for them to have a shot on the road against a top 4 team.
However, containing the guards of Emory, particularly Knight and Pearce, will be a tall task. It is arguably the best backcourt they have faced all year.

Basketball Open Dates / Re: Men's single games
Last post by mlenahan - Yesterday at 05:26:20 PMWillamette (Oregon) is looking for both home and road games for 2026-27 season. Would prefer home and home agreements but open to providing guarantee for home games or receiving guarantee for road games. Several other conference schools close to us so if travel to us would be easy to get multiple games.
