I feel your pain as on the Mountain we're down 27-3 at the half against Bethany College.   The expected long season looks to be starting for us as we haven't seen much offense in the first half.

The rest of the league schedule doesn't start until this evening.

What do I see now?  Bethany 27 Sewanee 24 14:22 to play.  Must have been one hell of a halftime talk!

Amen to that.   Score is 34-31 Bethany with just 8 minutes left in the game.   BC with the ball.

EDIT: And BC scores to make it BC 40, SEW 31 at the 6 minute mark.  Puts us down two scores.

First time in a long while I've had a complaint about Trinity's broadcast. What the heck is going on with the camera work and how does anyone on the crew think this is passable?

Ball has twice slipped out of Horn's hands on takeaways. I hope it is just from sweat. Gotta use that towel if so.

Our live feed crapped out after that touchdown.   Bethany College was able to get a first down and run out the clock for the final score of BC 40 - SEW 37.

This was a thing for men's soccer too.  Comments there were that they have new people doing camera work.  Let's hope the folks in charge can get that straightened out soon.

TLU was able to get a lot of pressure on Trinity QBs and the Tigers weren't able to get the run game going that you saw in the second half.  Defense only allowed the one TD drive and in fact TLU didn't get much over 100 yards of total offense until either late in the third or early fourth.

The TU OL is extremely inexperienced.  They made some blocking adjustments after halftime that opened up some running lanes, and that made all the difference.  Horn wasn't running nearly as much for his life and was able to make some nice completions as a result.

Might be a down year for Trinity's OL but I was encouraged they were able to make successful adjustments that opened things up in the 2nd half.

Some bonehead throws for Horn that stalled things in 1H and showed his inexperience at this level. He is a capable runner which is a plus given his size makes him difficult to bring down on the run. It's a tool Urban should use, but he also needs to be comfortable letting the play develop because he has some good WRs.

I was very surprised Tavarez was not more involved but given the camera work I could not tell what the defense was doing to address him. Hondo Franklin still has a very good arm. I'm curious what ultimately separated Horn from him in camp.

Other than Berry (50-20 winners at Huntingdon, so much for that graduation loss) and (finally) Trinity, the news yesterday in the SAA was not so good, which doesn't bear well for the conference's hopes for a second bid should that trend continue:

• Despite a heroic second-half effort, Sewanee fell 37-40.
• As noted earlier, Maryville fell after closing to within a TD of Heidelberg, 14-40.
• Southwestern lost to likely mid-pack ASC McMurry, 26-36.
• Centre was shut out 0-17 by a good Hanover squad with QB Zane Cartwright struggling through a 13-38-89 yard performance (1 int).
• By halftime, Rhodes trailed WashU at home 49-0 and ended up losing 73-0.

With the NESCAC and SCAC taking two of last year's at-large bids, they will be much harder to come by this year and starting non-conference play 2-5 is not good.

Not good, but nothing unexpected for me in week 1.  And makes next Saturday even more interesting with Hanover coming to Maryville and McMurry going to Trinity.  I expect Trinity will have the rough edges worked out before next week but it will be interesting to see how well Maryville does against Hanover after this week's performance.

Let's look at this week's games, all Saturday with the first three in the early afternoon (unless rescheduled due to heat as was Centre last game) and the others in the early evening:

• Rhodes @ Austin:  'Roos lost to a first-year Schreiner team, so there may be some hope for the Lynx.
• Sewanee @ Brevard:  Tornados open their season against Sewanee after defeating Tigers on the road last season.
• Hanover @ Maryville:  Panthers bring their stifling defense to Maryville.
• Southwestern @ TLU:  Do first-half or second-half Bulldogs show up, and do they get dangerous QB Caden Bosanko back?
• McMurry @ Trinity:  Do first-half or second-half Tigers show up?
• Millsaps @ Centenary:  Gents have to play a real football team this week (and I forgot Majors won last week, making SAA 3-5, not 2-5).
• LaGrange @ Berry:  Ditto these Panthers (OK, at least Point is an accredited NAIA school).  Doubt they'll rush for 200+ against the Vikings.
