Quote from: MunnyTim on Today at 08:36:28 AMWas debating whether to jump in this morning.  Took in the Tufts Conn game yesterday - frustrating affair.  Camels outshot the Jumbos 25-4 after going down a goal (more on that in a bit) about 4 minutes into the game.  I am not sure I have ever seen a Jumbos team sit back like that and present so little offensive threat.  Protecting a lead for 85 minutes is a tough task for any team.

A note regarding the officiating over the last few weeks - and I will admit this is from a biased perspective.  This is the second time in a few weeks (Bowdoin one week ago and then yesterday) where the Camels have had a late goal ruled out for a foul in the box.  After re-watching both the day after, both calls were give-able, but awfully soft.  Yesterday's was off a corner with 6 min to go in the second overtime on a foul committed on the keeper.  I get that these are tough, judgment calls, but could we at least find some consistency with them?  After watching NESCAC soccer for over a decade now and witnessing the evolution toward more direct soccer with tons of set pieces, Camel keepers have been roughed up regularly over the years without much protection from the officials.  The goal ruled out yesterday happens almost every game - three players going for the ball and a rebound going into the net.

Ok, rant over.  Just hoping for a tad more consistency.  Oh, the the Tufts goal occurred off a set piece, right after the official declined to protect a Conn centerback as he was undercut on a long clearance ball header.  Watch the film and see for yourself.

In the end, lots of story lines for this weekend coming up and TONS of questions/possibilities for the NCAA site deliberations for the following weekend.

Absolutely true MunnyTim. Incredibly soft call on the corner for what usually goes down in the NESCAC. In addition to Tufts and Bowdoin, Conn had a goal disallowed after the fact versus Bates. That is three potential game winners disallowed for the camels. I'm sure the humps will be fueled and ready for the NCAAs.

I watched the Tufts vs. Conn college game as well. #7 Perugini's quality is amongst the best in the NESCAC.

Quote from: Coach.myers on Today at 01:44:43 PMNo, they don't reset, but cutoff goes  up to 8.

I believe the cutoff already went up to 8 for NESCAC and any other teams that are already involved in conference tournaments. See bolded items below-

CAUTIONS (YELLOW CARD)
• Regular season accumulated cautions (Rule 12.5):
o 5 cautions in one season = suspension from the next regularly scheduled game.
o 3 additional cautions in one season (8 total) = suspension from the next regularly scheduled game.
o Each 2 additional cautions (10 total, 12 total, etc.) = suspension from the next regularly scheduled game.
o Suspensions carry over to postseason (conference tournament/NCAA tournament) and/or the next season if the team doesn't participate in postseason.

• Postseason accumulated cautions (Rule 12.6):
o Regular season caution accumulation carries into postseason (conference tournament/NCAA tournament).
o 8 cautions = suspension from the next regularly scheduled game. (NOTE: If a player enters postseason with 4 or fewer cautions, they are not required to serve a suspension until they reach their 8th caution).
o Each 2 additional cautions (10 total, 12 total, etc.) = suspension from the next regularly scheduled game.
o Suspensions carry over to the next season.

Yea it used to be that conference tournaments counted as regular season, but the 2025 and 2026 rules referenced here make a clear delineation between regular season and conference tournament/ncaa tournament which appears to have been a change.

Got it. Thx.

Good Ebening everyone! (Unai emery reference for all the ball knowers out there) Quite the interesting first round of play we had the past weekend; here is my recap of the matches.

Ammy v Midd:

Wow. This was great viewing. Absolute war with Amherst effectively fighting for their lives, and a #1 team caught on their heels. If I were any other team in the conference, I would not want to come up the likes of Mo, priddy (what a player), Dinzeo, etc. (assuming Nima doesn't get any of their important core suspended with his UFC terrorismo). Ultimately disappointing from the panthers with two losses on the bounce, I would expect them to regroup over the next couple weeks going into the natty tournament. Sawin and co. will likely be back on a tear after this break, hopefully they can keep up their sharpness over this break. Now we see if amherst can get their revenge against Williams who just snuck by them the last time out.

Willy v Wes:

Without Saeed around to cause havoc, Wes seemed relatively toothless. They had some decent spells throughout the game but Short and Cash were pretty useless up top, although this could be attributed to Farmer and Convery having a sharp display in the back for Williams. Really enjoyed Cauvin off the left, pacey and direct. He was an absolute nightmare for Ma to deal with yet again, and if anything had fallen for Wes it seemed like it would've been through him. We did not see the hockey substitutions from Siebert, really curious strategy to sub off half your strongest 11 at random points throughout the game. Directly dropped points from this through the season when I've tuned in to some of their games, away at colby and bowdoin. Only goal of the game came off a relatively jammy goal for freshman Appleton (big game player?) who found himself one on one and slotted it into the bottom left. Would like to see Willy play more on the front foot, where I think the likes of Bethencourt and the some of the other attackers could do some real damage. Sadly, they seem to like to sit deep and invite pressure at the behest of Siebert. Oh well.

Tufts v Conn:

As usual the Jumbos get on with their business, although it may not have been the prettiest display from them. Only 4 shots to the camels 25. Camels just couldn't quite seem to get it over the line, with ten corners as well you'd expect a bit more on the scoring front. Not enough magic from Perugini, who did score his penalty in regulation as well as in the shootout (big game ghosting though?). I'd expect the jumbos to get back to more front foot football next time out against Hamilton, although I think the winner of the other semifinal draw will end up winning the conference title.

Hammy v Bowdoin:

This game was the biggest nothing burger of the weekend, and I'll admit I didn't quite watch enough to make a big assessment on the game itself (not that I really have to). Two more goals for Miller which brings his tally up to nine on the season, and the sole goal for Bowdoin coming through Brady. Well played by hammy, who have a solid end to the season beating out the polar bears twice and thrashing a relatively poor Colby team. At the end of the day, I don't think they have what it takes to go farther in this tournament, but maybe they will surprise me! Bowdoin... really disappointing. They have had several extremely fortuitous wins this season, such as the 1-0 Williams game at home when the ephs decided it was a good idea to sub out their entire starting 11. Not really sure what Bowdoin bring to the table as a team, the back line is just bang average at best. Nuernburg is a physical beast, but far too robotic in his movements and pretty technically inept. Ishibashi is another frustrating player to watch for the polar bears, just never seems to do the right thing when I've tuned in. Wiercinski and the coaching staff have some things to improve on, but I'm overall just glad to not see them again in this tournament. Far too submissive from the polar bears. As a native Mainer I want to see some improvement from the Polar Bears, Colby, and Bates as well, although the prospect of any of those three being better than half decent seems pretty slim. Sorry for that rant.
