What D3 school had a bad ass alum in the Battle of Gettysburg - who had a huge role (key play) in the Union's victory?

Joshua Chamberlain was an alum of (and professor at) Bowdoin College.
I was small but made up for it by being slow...

Interesting. W&L's Liberty Hall Volunteers, nicknamed the Stonewall Brigade as they fell under VMI's famous Stonewall Jackson, were wiped out almost to a man at Gettysburg after fighting in every major battle of the northern front. I was at a family wedding a couple weeks ago in Western MD and visited the Monocacy Battlefield. Really good historical sight and gave an incredible view of what it must have been like to slog it out in the mud, fields, and forests of the time. Different than the preserved fields at Gettysburg and Antietam. Terrifying.

W&L has only one win on the season, I needed a new topic...

I believe Chamberlain also served as president of Bowdoin and became governor of Maine.

Maybe a little early to be naming the defense what with Witt and DPU on the nearing horizon.  But . . .Big Red Machine (oops, that's been taken), Scarlet Slash, Red Scare (too communist), Red Rocks D, LG D (RG III?),  Red Pop, Wabash Cannonball.  (You might be aware that the Kansas State U. band plays the Wabash Cannonball, and the song has become an unofficail (official?) fight song for the school.  You can find several renditions of it on YouTube, one with Erin Andrews among the fans as the band plays at a football game.
I've never understood why Wabash doesn't use the song.  Maybe too dated--not too dated for KSU though.  Too trite?  Many, many years ago, the team would enter the stadium to the tune "When the Saints Go Marching In," but with the lyric changed to "When Big Red goes marching in."

firstdown

I thought the Wabash defense had a name - the "Hard Hat D."

HCAlum-

Where is Danny Robinson?  We haven't seen him since him since the Wooster game.  He's an exciting player.

I am not certain, a few of my friends and I had been talking about that last week. It may have been academic of off the field issues, as I just said Moore was doing a better job in that regard lol. But I will try to find out ASAP.

Back when Univ of Michigan had a dominant football team (before some posters were born) and Ufer was doing the WJR broadcasts, their "D" was known as "McCartney's Monsters."  Let's see what the next few weeks may (not) yield.  Given the speed, pursuit, and attitude (with a cursory bow toward the steppes - needed to attain post season attention  ;)), "Hammer's Horde" might be a consideration.  ;D
