I watched it, bp -- wish I had something better to do!!  ;)  I'd give them a break since it is the first game of the year, but, these are not strong teams...from what I witnessed, Dakota won't bring much more to the Perk than Midland did last year, unfortunately. Eight bucks for an NAIA game [shaking me head], that's really unfortunate!!  :-[  ::)

BTW, the final score was 38-7 Midland!!

I saw that final score later. I was not reading their live stats correctly. I think it's AWESOME you watched an NAIA game! A true football FANatic!  :D

Does anyone remember the deadline for cutting down to the 100 man (or in the case of UW-Platteville, man/woman  ;) ) rosters? With most if not all schools well over 100 players on their pre-season roster, many important decisions need to be made.

Speaking of rosters, just saw on the OAC board that Mount has posted theirs. Three from Wisconsin -- a soph K from Cedarburg and RB from Kenosha and a sr TE from Madison who it says went to New Lisbon High School -- that must have been a brutal commute!!  ;)  Team roster totals 123 players (19 RB's; only 2 freshman) with another 107 on their freshman roster -- talk about stockpiling!! Safe to say, no one in the WIAC will have one that looks like this.  ::)

My understanding is the UW-W coaches met and at least started the process of paring the roster on Friday. I don't know if all decisions were made at that meeting, but my guess is they were.  After the meeting on Friday, the coaches were treated to dinner at Randy's by Coach Perkins.

What the hell was that?  That was a Drop-kick.  Drop-kick? How much is that worth?  Three points.  THREE POINTS?!

Wow, bp, that's a little more info than I expected. But, just curious, what was more popular among the coaches, the soup or the salad?  ;)  :D  ;D

I talked to a former WIAC player who had played about 10 years ago.  He said at that time, he had red shirted his freshman year, then played varsity reserve his soph year, and then had 3 years remaining.  He was a standout player, but said without the red shirting and VR experience, he didn't know if he would have been.  He said he didn't know why WIAC had voted to change the rules (no red shirting, no varsity reserve) but he questioned how WIAC will remain as competitive.  Any input from those of you who have followed WIAC for years?  Obviously WW attracts players because of their status, but what about the rest of the teams?  I know a team can have varsity reserve, but it is difficult with the roster limit and it appears most have stopped.

C'mon now, some things just have to stay within the program. Besides, I just bus the tables, I don't keep track.  ;D

Red shirting is not allowed in Division 3 period (other than due to injury). It is an NCAA rule. Therefore, the WIAC should be unaffected by this in terms of remaining competitive. However, it is conceivable that the 100 player roster limit imposed by the WIAC could provide a greater challenge.

My 2010 WIAC PROJECTED FINAL STANDINGS posted on blog. Several differences from SID poll. There's probably SOMETHING in my final projections you'll disagree with!  ;D

Fanowiac....I am also a fan of redshirting also but to be honest the WIAC has done well since the rule change(5 consecutive trips to Salem). My son redshirted at UWW and was a great aid for him. Never would have been a starter his first year but went on to start every game for 4 years after he put on 50 lbs. and learned the system. I believe the red shirt rule is for all of D3 not just the WIAC.....

BDB

I believe the reason that D3 eliminated the red shirt was to even things up between the public and private schools.

When someone enrolls at a private school and is looking at a $30,000+ per year tuition, the institution is motivated to have their students graduate in 4 years. Makes it seem somewhat more affordable. The school keeps closer tabs on a students progress toward a degree. Public schools probably not near as much.

Therefore, the red shirt wasn't a level playing field for all of D3. I could be wrong on this but that's the way I understood it when the rule changed.

The front page this morning had a "Yodel or Die" message on it (hacker?).

Sorry - didn't mean to distract everyone - this is, after all, GAME WEEK!!
