Let me know if anyone is interested in participating in this year's West Region Fan Poll. I'm looking for two (maybe three) participants.

Much appreciated

I'll do it 02

Awesome! I just sent you a message with some details.

Thanks

Last week ESPN created a list of the top 50 college football teams over the past 150 years (all divisions). No D2 or NAIA teams made the list, but some D3 teams did.

16. Mount
18. SJU
27. Wittenberg
31. UWW
35. Linfield

Shocked that Mount was so low. They have more national championships than 10 of the 15 teams above them. Tennessee was above Mount at #14. Tennessee....really?! Then I realized why when I saw what formula they're using to create this list.

For example:
- They are giving D3 teams only half credit for national championships because they aren't in the FBS.
- All D3 teams winning percentage are lowed by 10% because they aren't D1

Good post, 02 Warhawk

Another example of the lack of respect for Dlll. You and I and others know how good our respective programs are! So, Go Warhawks, Go Raiders and Go Dlll.  ::)  ;D

On a 150-year scale, Mount Union's greatness is relatively brief, right?.  How were they from, let's say, 1870 - 1990?

Mount was pretty much horrible until the 1980's.  My brother played there in late 1970's when LK was the O-coordinator and a winning season was considered a success.

I'm not surprised D3 is knocked down a bit as it is easier to maintain excellence at this level than it is at D1.  It's harder to build in the first place, but without the oversight and restrictions of D1 it's easier to maintain.   Plus the bottom of FBS is much closer to the top of FBS in talent and resources than the bottom of D3 is compared to the top of D3.

Overall I was surprised they mentioned D3 at all.
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Statistics are like bikinis; what they reveal is interesting, what they hide is essential.

Right. My point is, based on ESPN's formula, Mount would be ahead of Tennessee (and many other teams) if it wasn't for their non-D1/FBS schools "Adjustments". They're basically saying winning in D1 is harder for D1 teams, compared to winning in D3 for D3 teams (if that makes sense  ;) ). Which I wouldn't exactly agree with. Of course it's all relative, but pretty damn close.

Of course Tennessee would kick the sh*t out of Mount if they ever played, but that's not what the list was about.

When I was a student from 1953 to 1957, Mount was pretty bad. They won a total of 10 games for the four years. Not very good. There were some other bad years as well.
But, ESPN never said a team had to be "evenly good" over it's lifetime. I have a feeling the teams ranked above them had some lean years as well. Mount Union's accomplishments still rate above many of the other teams.
(Small point. There was no 1870 in football. First game was in 1893.)
So Mount's greatness WAS relatively brief. So? Seemed to fit in with what ESPN was trying to find out, namely, at the end of 150 years, what have you accomplished?
And so that we stay friends, Go Little Giants!  ;D

OK, dumb question.  How does one access the game by game results for a team's 2018 season on D3football.com?

retagent

Go to the "Teams" header on the upper tabs on home page. then click on appropriate Region, then click on specific team. It should take you to the school's site that has that info.

This works during the season, but I'm not sure they have last year's results still up. (I'll check) they may even have a link to previous years on that site as well though.

I just checked and, yes, they do have links to previous seasons below the present season's schedule.

Hawks88

It doesn't look like they have links to 2018 yet. If you go to some other year you can change the year in the URL to 2018 and get to it though.
