It looks like 6 teams in the WIAC are tied for 1st place with 2&1 records. Next week 2&1 Platteville is at 2&1 Whitewater and 2&1 Oshkosh is at 2&1 LaCrosse. Does 2 loses win the WIAC? Can a 2 or 3 loss WIAC team get a Pool C bid?

Great game by the Pioneers.
Holy toss up in the WIAC.
UWP looked unstoppable today.
UWW looked physically dominant last night.
Both got beat the week before.

I thought Whitewater beat SP last week. It was a long week, maybe I'm wrong

You are right. Two consecutive 30 Plus margin of victory wins for the Warhawks the last two weeks.

Blaha out of game with 5 minutes left in 3rd Q. Fitzgerald comes in, plays rest of game at QB, ends up as leading rusher w/ 112 yds or so.

Impressive breakout and first big workload game for Platteville freshman Blake Bangston. 105 yards on 19 carries and a touchdown.

Wasn't really a highly regarded prospect because of size, but Pioneers got a good one. He'll only get better.

What an unbelievable performance by our Warhawks last night. To hold probably the 2nd or 3rd best team in the WIAC to just 2 points is a great sign for the best coaching staff in the nation.
Thought the refs were the worst though. So many calls going against us. Was thinking maybe Vegas made a call to the refs to keep it close.
But what a performance by our QB. He looked smooth out there. Real smooth. Completely on point. There's no doubt he's gotta be the leading candidate for the Gagliardi trophy.
Gonna run the table the rest of the season.

Didn't get a chance watch at all, but the Blugolds gave the Titans a decent battle in Oshkosh today falling 28-21. Still a loss, but I believe this is the first non-Pointer WIAC team they held to under 30 points since the 2019 season.

Bofadeeznuts, you're certainly living up to your screen name with special emphasis on the last 4 letters, namely nuts.

1. The best coaching staff in the nation? Nuts! The best coaching staff in the nation is in Naperville, IL. You know the staff that's 50-1 since taking command in 2022. The one that's won two of the last three Stagg Bowls, beating the staff you allege is best both times.

2. The leading candidate for the Gagliardi Trophy? Nuts, again! Your boy is NOT in the top 50 in passing efficiency, passing TDs, or passing yards. He's the next galaxy over from the leading candidate for the Gagliardi.

You've had too much purple Kool-Aid.  ;)

Correct- I wasn't of sound mind when I posted (trying to set up a new smart watch that is supposed to be "intuitive"- I call BS)- sorry for the harmless error.
The point remains the same, one week UWP and UWW look dominant against top WIAC competition, yet in previous weeks they get beaten by top WIAC competition.

As for UWW's win vs UWS- as much as I loved the ball control and physicality, I'm highly skeptical of the pedestrian passing game and fear it will ultimately end the Warhawk season too soon.

The Hawks are expected to get back three high level contributors back for the UW-Platteville game. Running back/punt returner Noah Battle, cornerback/captain Carter Sessa, and cornerback T.Y. Harvey are all expecting to play after missing the last two games.

I cannot figure out if it's execution or play calling that's holding back the passing game. Maybe both.

emma17

Regarding the passing game- execution or play calling.
I've only been to the UWL game and that was play calling (meaning the head scratching number of safe throws behind the line of scrimmage mostly to Vasey). They tried a couple deep balls in second half that were close but incomplete.

-I don't understand Vasey's role. I'm assuming he's UWW's #1 receiver (and tallest at 5'10"), but he's used like an experiment. He's in the backfield at QB and RB, he's used on jet sweep and on the large number of swing passes. He's not used nearly as often as you'd think the #1 receiver on a team struggling to execute a legitimate passing attack should be.
-I've brought up the height issue w UWW receivers. This is a real thing to me. Catch radius is a big deal- especially with a younger QB that may not be as accurate. I saw a fade route to the end zone w one of the 5'8" guys. That's not a good recipe for plays considered 50/50 balls. If you're 5'8" guy isn't blowing by the defender, good luck winning the battle for a catchable ball.
-I'm a firm believer in play calls that build confidence. Timing routes that can be executed without the QB having to make reads/be elusive, seem like they'd help this offense.
-Get the ball to the tight ends. Bigger targets, shorter routes.

This Saturday will be interesting. I wouldn't be surprised if UWW won by playing the same style game as they did against UWL, minus the two punt miscues. However, I don't know that sticking to that style will work in the postseason.

I agree that it's important to continue to develop the passing game into a viable threat. All three of the starting receivers are 5'10" according to the roster. I believe that to be true because I am 5'10" (I used to be 5'11 1/2, what the heck happened there?). But your point regarding the lack of a tall receiver or two is a good one. It can be limiting. We have two freshman wide receivers who are 6'3" and 6'4" respectively. I'm not sure if there is an concentrated effort to get them game ready, but it wouldn't be a bad idea given the fact that they would give us an element we don't have.

emma17

I hear you on the shrinking thing. I used to be 6'4", went for the annual last week and she measured be at 6'1". I know I haven't condensed that much.
I'll give the benefit of the doubt that the first three are 5'10" as the roster states. I had to look at the season stats for UWW receivers to date. This is really amazing to me.

Vasey: 5'10"/ 30 receptions
Haggerty: 5'10"/ 14 receptions
Lippe: 5'10"/ 10 receptions
Brooks: 5'8"/ 7 receptions
Crump: 5'9"/ 6 receptions
Prio: 5'8"/ 2 receptions
