It's based on practice opportunities, rather than days, and days before class starts are counted differently as a result.

Just did a quick Google search for WIAC 2026 fall semester start dates.  These are the results:

Sep 1 - UWEC
Sep 2- UWP, UWW, UWSP, STOUT, UW-RF
Sep 8 - UW-L
Sep 9 - UW-O

Looks to be a disadvantage for Demir Ashiru to start the season strong.

Quote from: AndrewB on July 12, 2026, 09:35:39 PMNot to get too off topic.  Do the players that live on campus move into temporary rooms?  When I went to College at UWO, football players didn't have a dorm building for themselves.  Do they move twice then during the summer?

Unless something has changed drastically, students who need to move in early for sports or other extracurriculars (marching band, for example) can do so. Unless their room isn't available for some reason, but they should be able to move in.

If not, I assume they treat whatever temporary housing they have like a hotel.

Everyone has the same 25 practice opportunities before the first game. (Although schools playing on Thursday or Friday might short themselves by one or two in order to do so.)

Would seem to be a disadvantage of the Week 1 Bye then wouldn't it? You don't play week 1, you loose 5 practices during the season, since your calendar starts a week later. Unless I'm missing how that's accounted for.

Patrick Coleman

I agree that a Week 1 bye seems to be a disadvantage. Add to this the fact that your first game will be against a team that already has a game under its belt, and that if you play 10 games, you'll be playing 10 in a row with no bye week.

How would this effect UW-EC when classes start on the first.  If the coaches wanted to give the players off Sept 1 and Sept 2 to get acclimated to school.  Could they start fall camp 2 days early?

Quote from: Mitch Hall on Today at 02:17:52 PMWow. Why so high on the Eagles ?

First, they have a D2 lineup.

Offensive coordinator Tarek Yaeggi is going into his second season. I expect a improvement with Senior QB Haas and a top 5 nationally wide receiver in Janke.  Transfer RB Marc Coy.  Still have a huge O-line.
They have taken a huge hit on the kicking game.
Also favorable schedule.  Have Whitewater, River Falls and Platteville all at home.
