lol. I think that's what made me think of saying that. Truthfully, I never feel comfortable sharing injury news either way. Always feel like that's the head coach's prerogative and he may wanted it handled differently in every situation. So it's kind of a stay-away for me.

Kyle Hass was worse.  Zero touchdowns and 3 interceptions.  The only offensive touchdown they scored was with the backup quarterback.

Even more reason to wonder what's going on w the UWW offense.
Klinkner had 17 carries for 34 yards. Imagine that. 2 yards a carry and you keep calling his number.
I think that's the game he tried to punt and was too close to the line of scrimmage- blocked.

It's 14 carries for 40 yards once you eliminate the sacks, which are deducted from rushing offense in college football. Not a tremendous difference but more accurate.

Right- thank you. I was going to mention sack yardage/or busted pass plays that become a short run, but the gist remains the same.
There is an opportunity cost the offense is losing out on. A truly simple question the OC should ask himself- do we put more pressure on the D handing the ball to a running back 14 more times- or having our QB run it 14 times.

Just did math and this doesn't add up.  If you take out the 8 yard sack and 2 kneel downs it gives you 14 rushing attempts.  These are what the Whitewater play by play gives you.
4 1 -2 -3 3 5 2 4 8 3 1 1 -2 3
That's 28 yards.
Either way, it's a bad formula for a successful offense.

A fair question.  One of the issues Saturday was that the RF defense began "hawking","Keying', whatever terminolgy you want to use- Novotny. With the passing game being what it was (a separate issue that needs to be examined), perhaps we were trying to make the defense pay a price for selling out to stop Novotny. I havne't talked to anyone, but they were overcommitting to stop Tommy, so it's a possibility.

Also, I think Klinkner's runs likely took carries away from the backup running backs rather than Tommy. Again, guessing here, but I see our backup running backs had zero carries. And carries by a backup running back don't make the defense pay a price for overcommitting on Tommy. Novotny had 23 carries. Again, this is my thinking, not necessarily the staff's, but do we want a 175-pound freshman running back to get far more than 23 carries in the first WIAC game of a season we hope to go deep into the playoffs?  Just asking...

None of this is to say your question isn't valid, it is. Just trying to think of possible reasons for the play mix that was called.

I still maintain that when the passing game becomes more effective, the QB carries will drop.

But having said everything I just said, I know nothing. Just some Wednesday musings... ;)
