Winning in the playoffs is tough!

Losing to Mount Union and Linfield in the second round the last couple years has sucked.  We went into both of those games with some of us believing that we were destined to be champs.  I mention this so WW can learn from our mistakes.  You guys think you're pretty good right now and the truth is YOU ARE DAMN GOOD!

Whether you play St. Norberts or Linfield, remember that all of your guys have worked as hard if not harder than all of their guys...  Your coaches have doubled their time devoted to football smelling a championship year...  Your fans are jacked up and getting ready to go crazy!  Be a team and keep getting it done.
And please teach Stout some humility this week.  They shouldn't be able to beat a weak Ripon team much less my Eagles.

``WW wins 28-17 because of WW's ability''

That's very similar to the margin you picked EC to win its opener by, 45.

the reason I ask of course is SJU's Gearman has been dominating smaller corners all year.  How would you rank WW's d-backs in general..are they amoung the best in the WIAC?

blugold45

They are above average.  I think that WW could beat the Johnnies but Gearman would get his but their run game would be nonexistent.  Kind of what the Blugolds have done in the past when they won which was shut the Johnnies run game down and make the QB beat them.

Gearman has been dominating MIAC corners.  He did get his 10-122 against EC but EC has a history of poor pass defense (see every year for the past five).  I think he'll find that the WW corners are much better then the MIAC corners, plus 6'1 and 5'11 are good heights for a corner.  He got his 10-122 against EC mostly against 5'8 and 5'9 corners.

blugold45

Repete,

"Ability to mix the run and the pass", the Johnnies shut down the Blugolds run this year and made them throw which shortened the time EC had the ball and gave themselves the ball for more time.  They won't have that luxury vs. WW.

WW's zone running scheme is tough to stop.  You may stop them for a couple plays in a row and then one player doesn't hold his gap and all of a sudden there's a 70 yard TD run.  So then you get to geared up to stop this zone scheme and bam they go over the top to Leszczynski or Stanley, whom I believe the Johnnie DB's can not run with.

blugold45

I think to beat SJU you have got to rush the ball well.  In the last four meetings with SJU, when EC had rushed for over 100 yards they won and when they didn't they lost.  Of all the teams in the WIAC, WW has the best opportunity to put those 100 yards up on the Johnnies.

blugold26

I will have to admit the SJU was dominating the game against the blugolds but I just feel seeing SJU and WW I would have to take WW because I just feel that overall defense, offense, and special teams they are dominating and I would like to see the blugold get into the playoffs and meet SJU in Collegeville becaus right now the defense and the running game are back and playing unbelievable, but of course that is only my opinion.

any chance WW stumbles the next two weeks.  Seems like the WIAC always gets a few surprises at the end of the season.

Bluegold45,
I have learned so much from you and your take on a WW/STJ'Ss matchup.  It seems very thought out and unbiased and reasoned out.  Anybody with any common ground to use to compare a possible WW/Linfield matchup except the common opponent of Steven's Point? That horse has been beat to death.   It just seems that the two teams have alot more in common than differences with the exception of the overall quality (top to bottom) of the conferences.   Loved to get everyones take on that senario.

KennethK,
The only real test for WW will be against UW-Stout.  The game on Sat.  pits the WIAC #1 offense against the #1 defense.  Don't see it happening against URF even on UWW.s worst day!

How is this ?  Playoff History  of each league..

NWC   15 - 8  .652,

W!AC     3-7    .300..   Facts..  Some of the NWC is down just a little this year and reloading..  (Others are just out  L& C) How about the WIAC.. If UWSP is any example  then I take it is yes for both?

Couple of things:
26--The train of thought that runs that UWEC would be better facing SJU for a second time apparently is based on the EC's improvement. News flash: It's not like SJU has been getting worse. Few teams improve more over the course of the season. For instance, how many WIAC teams have started 0-2 and ended up in the Stagg?

45--SJU put more ground yards on EC than WW did. I'll admit a good zone run scheme is a bear, but discipline and preparation are the keys to stopping that offense and SJU does a pretty good job at both. As for the wideouts' speed, I don't know either of them, but those kind of claims are pretty common especially when you reach the upper rounds of the playoffs, but SJU is rarely beat that way. For example, All-American Jerheme Urban, now in his third NFL season with Seattle, was held to 5 catches and less than 75 yards (although the kick return was a killer) in the 2001 playoffs.

In the big picture, though, I'd like to see WW sent North, which would be best for the region as a whole. I can't say for sure who's coming out of the playoffs, but with Linfield, WW and SJU there are going to be two teams that would be more deserving of a region title than what will come out of  a couple of the other regions. You could ship any of the three out and they'd have a great shot, but WW is the only option given the NCAA priorities ($$$$$).

Pioneerbacker

It's nice to see Damian Droessler for UW-P getting some publicity (see D3 Football frontpage).  He is what D3 football should be (and mostly is) about.  Pioneer fans have enjoyed watching him play for four years and will surely miss his intensity.  Looks like little brother is going to be something special for years to come, though!  Pioneers hopefully get first conference win this Saturday.

TRU

For EC will have a hard making it to the West Region Playoffs unless either WW is moved to North or EC goes into the North Region. Linfield, SJU, WW, Monmouth, Oxy are a lock. IIAC winner  gets a place let say it's Coe. This leaves 2 spots-----Central, CM, Wartburg, Whitworth and EC will via for these. CM played SJU closer than EC thus I think CM will get in. Final spot between 4 teams.--EC chances are better than Whitworth and Wartburg but less than Central as I think Central will beat Wartburg.
EC also still has to win out in WIAC- which has probably more upsets that other conferences.

It would be good to have 2 WIAC and 2 MIAC teams in the playoffs. CM at WW and EC at SJU in round one.
