Wartburg can't to ANYTHING right today!!

Millikin 21
Wartburg 0

END OF 3RD QUARTER

I think Wartburg still has less than 100 yards of total offense.  Millikin is picking up every fluky 3rd down.  It's just one of those days.

Former Knight student assistant Kehe is calling a beautiful game defensively.

I think they still have

Lance Harbor

Millikin scores on a Touchdown pass...

Millikin 27
Wartburg 0

tributetothemaninblack

sounds like i big struggle for the 'burg.

How is the rest of the conference doing?

Lance Harbor

Coe was up 49-7 last I heard.

Central beats Augustana, 25-24, in overtime.

BV was trailing Bethel, 20-14, at the half.

Simpson was beating Illinois Wesleyan at half.

Lance Harbor

Bethel 32
BV 21

2:42 in the 4th -- Bethel is inside the 10

Simpson 20
Illinois Wesleyan 14

5:35 in the 4th -- Simpson is punting

Lance Harbor

1:22 to go in the game.

Illinois Wesleyan has converted back-to-back first downs.

Lance Harbor

Simpson intercepted a pass in the end zone.  The Storm is taking the proverbial knee.

Illinois Wesleyan almost drove 99 and a half yards.
Whew!! :o

what the hell happened to Wartburg today?

I completely forgot they had an early game and my grandpa called me to tell me the score.  He's 78, so I had to ask him 3 times if he was sure it wasn't the other way around...

Did kehe have the same headphones on as Wartburg, is that how they held them to 7 pts?

The one good thing from this beating is that it happened in week 1 and will be  a serious wake up call that this team can't just show up and win a game.

It's going to be interesting to see how well they respond, when is the last time they got beat by 27?
lance, i'm sure you have some spreadsheet or something to pull up this trivia pursuit question...

i live about a mile away from your beloved naia  mid-america nazarene here in KC
not much to their tiny campus

i do know their old qb Chris Horn? has a shot at making the chiefs as a WR.

a guy i played with in high school(also a simpson grad)  is now the head coach at culver stockton,mo
so if they play here in kc, i might have to go check it out and then i can give my opinion on their athletic talents....  i know culver is horrible though.. from what i've read in the paper down here....

Not taking anything away from Millikin but I am shocked by the Wartburg loss.

Anyone know the score of the Loras game? I couldn't get connected with their broadcast for some stupid reason.

sportsknight

Loras won big, 48-0 or something like that.  I was at that game.  I'm not sure how great Concordia is, but Loras looked pretty good today.  They started the McCarron kid from Wahlert at running back, and he had 3 TDs in the first half alone.  Loras was rotating their QBs, with Jankovic getting the start and McLaughlin seeing quite a bit of time as well.  Jankovic looked pretty good, but Loras didn't need to pass the ball very well as good as they were running it.  Loras' Matt Burds had at least one, maybe 2 return TDs, so he's going to be a dangerous guy this year.  We'll have to see how they do against Ambrose, but the Loras team I saw out there today made me reconsider my prediction for their season.

As far as the Knights go, Kehe must have done an phenomenal job against them.  Its pretty obvious they had trouble moving the ball, and from what I heard at halftime, Wartburg gave Millikin a pretty short field a couple times in the first half to get into a pretty good sized hole.  Oh well, rather have them lose now rather than in November when it counts.

Speaking of good sized holes, I also swung over to the Rock Bowl when I was in the Key City.  They've made some progress from the last time I was there 6 weeks back, but they still haven't put the turf down or any of the seating in.  I took some more pictures with the digital camera, and I'll post those once I get them uploaded.

I am not suprised by Loras and their huge win. I know Concordia is not a great football team. But, a win is a win

Dave - Millikin had a very good set of shutdown cornerbacks.  Because Wartburg does not have any sizeable, speedy receivers, we were forced to play the entire game between the tackles.

That might work against maybe a bottom-half IIAC team, but against an upper-echelon CCIW, you don't have a prayer.  This game will be a learning experience for this young team.  Sportsknight is correct, we gave them some short field, but as you know, one of Wartburg's keys is to not give up points on quick turnarounds.  We did a very poor job of that today.

It sounded like, for pretty much the whole game, we'd have the play stopped on defense, and then all of a sudden BOOM, a guy squirts away and makes a big gainer.  Of the 11 or so defensive goals that are posted in the Knight locker room, I wouldn't be surprised if we failed at all 11 of them. :-[

Oh well.  It just means we're going to have to bounce back and play tougher from here on out.

BTW, props to Simpson, Central, Cornell, Loras and Coe for impressive wins today.

NorseFan

Congrats to the IIAC winners today, especially the Norse and the Dutch.  Good way to start the season for both teams.  Sounds like Loras also had a fun time.

Lance -

You still kicking it in the midwest??? Anyway, I live about 10 minutes (barring traffic) from Redlands, and they host Trinity in two weeks...It will have to my only D3 Football fix for the year, unless something magical happens again and the Knights head west.?.?.?.?

So, since I can't get ahold of you any other way...why don't you email me your cell number so I can call you when I run into danger.

By the way, predictions for this year: Knights faulter and finish middle pack.  Reason:  all remnants of Matt Stoffel's defense and Brad Hodapp's offense from 03' 04' are in the work force now - the lessons haven't been passed.  The dynasty is over.  Glad i was there for it, but hold on Knights fans, it might be a sports apocolypse.
