As a dad of formerly little kids, your story illustrates so well how within the quick turn of the head, a little one can veer into trouble. 
Clearly, God smiles on the young and innocent.

I remember turning to see Jr. in midflight having launched himself off the top of the stairs when he was 2.  In slow motion I saw him descending on a 7 foot drop the floor below.  Fortunately the floor was carpeted, and he landed and rolled.  He sat up with a grin and rubbed his head a little bit and said, "Bot!"  (means Bop)  No breaks, no bumps...just a shaken mom and dad.

Keep hugging your kids...they are your true treasure.

In January, my then 2 year old decided to try to get down off the counter for the first time on her own.  My wife and I both saw it out of the corner of our eyes and it seemed like slow motion. Neither one of us was more than 3 feet away. They don't teach you how to land at preschool and she landed with her legs straight. Broken tibia and fibula. Spiral fracture on one. I was grilled by 3 different people at the ER to make sure I told the story the same each time. 6 weeks in a walking cast. Spent her 3rd Bday with it on.

Your little on might unseat my little brother for the title of "Toughest Little Kid I've Ever Known."  No surprise considering her legacy.  My brother survived the following things with nothing worse than a chipped tooth and a few stitches:
- Fall down a flight of stairs
- Have a garage door closed on him
- Being hit in the face with a snow shovel

Granted, I instigated each of those incidents, but that's beside the point.
