I'd like to echo my congratulations to the Wartburg women's track team for the win yesterday.  We were in Waverly attending a Wartburg graduation gathering.  We stopped at Little Warthog's house and before going to the party he got on his computer to check out how the Knights were doing.  They had a total of zero points on the board.  It didn't seem that a national team title was likely.  It is obvious I don't know much about track & field or how the scoring works.  I was quite surprized when we got home around midnight to discover they had won the championship.

It was great seeing Little Warthog's old roommate and his family.  It is hard to believe the little brother is graduating already.  It seems only a few weeks ago he was trying to decide whether to follow his brother to the 'burg.

Nice job, Wartburg! Congratulations to your women's team.
Overall, the West Region made a pretty good showing.

A very reliable source has told me that Dubuque is getting a transfer quarterback but it isn't the ex-WARHAWK.  Rather this transfer is coming from DII Mankato State.   I am told he is pretty decent.

Non-football ...

As a matter of conscience and conviction, I protested the war in Vietnam and both Iraq wars.

But having said that ... with a son not only out of harm's way after 16 months in Iraq, but also now out of the Army (except for inactive reserves) ... I am grateful this Memorial Day for all of those who served their country, and especially those who made the ultimate sacrfice.

At the same time, I am keenly aware that war is evidence of the most basic human sin ... and while we gather family and friends for Memorial Day picnics or other celebrations and reunions, I also am aware of  families of every kind in every nation throughout the world who now live with empty places around their tables and in their hearts ... for where once there was a precious, loved one ... there now is only a memory.

We celebrate best by remembering always.

It was the same in 2005 title. ZERO points going into the last day and needed to finish ahead of UW Osh Kosh in 4X400 to claim that title.

Can't help but wonder why this is getting significantly less play than Nick Yordi's misbehaving received...
QuoteMembers of the private school's women's rugby club wore baggy pants, bandannas and fake "grills" or coverings on their teeth as part of their annual spring social event. The theme of the May 14 event was "gangsters and preps" and some have complained that the attire was offensive and a stereotype of young black men.

Before doing something, people need to stop and ask themselves "Is this a good idea?"  If they have to even think about it more than a second...it probably isn't a good idea.

What in the heck were those girls thinking???  I suppose the answer is...They are young girls between the ages of 18-22 and don't always take the time to think things through.  In the end, if Yordi got off with nothing more than some sensitivity training.  That should be what these girls get.  Nothing more.  Lesson learned.

I would think the reason this is getting less play than the Yordi incident is because Yordi was arrested for his stunt.  AND, Decorah is a bit more in the middle of nowhere than Waverly.

Because they are rugby players, everyone knows we are a lost cause.

Side note:  The Luther womens rugby team is the best looking team I've seen.  Women's rugby is hot!!!
I'm so happy 'cause today I found my friends. They're in my head.  I'm so ugly, that's okay, 'cause so are you!

Was what the girls did really that bad, or have people become too sensitive? Caucasian kids wear baggy pants and act like gangstas, too. So do Mexicans. No one race has the market cornered on looking like idiots, but some people search really hard for stuff to complain about.

Can you imagine what some of these little punks would do if they came up against a real gangster, like Al Capone or some of his buddies?

According to the story, the Luther women's rugby team apologized, so perhaps that mitigated the repercussions.  Did Yordi ever apologize?

We live in a society that worships the hip hop lifestyle and all that it brings.  How can you discipline these girls when you can turn on MTV and see one of 300 rappers dressed in the same manner.  Whom ever said that we as a society are becoming to sensitive hit the nail on the head.

Though it is not appropriate to discuss the origin of bagging/sagging pants, if one knows anything about they know that the real reason this started and the real truth behind this is disgusting and mind blowing.

What is everything? Loras has the best setting. Wartburg has the best game day atmosphere and home field advantage. What other criteria are you going by? Besides Coe and Cornell, there's not a crappy stadium in the rest of the conference.

Cornell has the best natural grass field in the conference.  Way better than Wartburg's...    ;)

I actually thought UD had one of the best natural grass surfaces in the conference and was surprised when they changed to field turf.
