Wow what a finish I guess, I wouldn't know since the $10 "VIDEO service" repeatedly went out, froze up, etc. Mount's stats website was equally piss poor,  but congrats on the win and what a test headed into playoff time. Hope JCU shows up better than last year although I'd hate to see them again at this point.

game over?

Twitter says per NCAA rule, can't spike the ball to stop the clock with less than 3 seconds left on the clock.

And what value does that rule add?

Other than being the the stupidest NCAA rule yet....

Its the NCAA - the rules don't have to add value or even make sense. However, I am sure that JCU fans will term it the "Raider Rule" and it will be viewed with disdain like the "Brady Rule".

John Carroll players were very emotional after the game. Yelling at mount fans as they went back to there locker room. Obviously emotions were running high but, to take it out on mount fans who were walking back to there cars?!? NOT COOL!!!

I'm a first time responder but have followed the boards for a while. Some of you Mount fans have this superiority complex and think you guys can do no wrong. But for the second year in a row JCU fans were verbally taunted and had beer cans thrown at them at your place. And of course we will be ticked at the end of this game but we don't say it's the mount rule like one of you implied. But it is definitely a ridiculous rule and your fans wasted no time rushing the field. JCU had every opportunity to win that game and you mount fans should thank your lucky stars we didn't. And you know you can certainly get beat before losing to UWW like usual.

Last year the JCU fans were downright nasty after the game. I know JCU players had the emotions going but you have to keep your cool - or at least direct elsewhere. Still remember BW after their loss a few years back throwing stuff on the field at Mount. Win with class - lose with dignity. I know it is easy to say when you are not playing - but it is something you have to do. Great game JCU. But guess what? Myers is graduating!! Is Michaels graduating too? God I hope so.

You should probably call it "The Rowan Rule" or "The Bridgewater Rule".  With local officials usually in charge of the time clock, there can be a lot of variance in how quickly it starts and stops.  During the 2001 playoffs, Bridgewater threw a 49-yard Hail Mary that was stopped at the Rowan 1 with a single second remaining.  They raced down the field to snap the ball before the long second ran out and won the game.  [Even worse, video later showed the clock froze at 1 while the long throw was still in their air.]

Any rule that takes decisions out of the realm of on-field officials -- particularly OAC officials -- I approve of.
Never underestimate the stimulation of eccentricity.

From what I saw, it was far from being a Mount fan problem. Saw several unsavory situations at the stadium and beforehand with fans of each team being the instigator.

However, JCU fans were the ones throwing bottles at Mount players and fans on the field after the game.

P.S. At least we get to play UWW  :D

Talan3234

Wouldn't say that for sure. But that's some good confidence..and you got shellacked last year against them.

Not what I indicated, but welcome to the boards, and best of luck in the selection show tomorrow.

reality check

You could just call it the Stave Rule (Wisconsin's QB) since the Wisconsin-ASU game was settled bizarrely on an attempted spike with under two seconds on the clock last year and was a big topic of debate nationally last football season.  Sounds like it was quite a finish in Alliance though.  Obviously a shame when a game ends in some level of controversy but it's the coaches' jobs to know the rules and make their players aware of them as well.

Not sure what to do with this. However a good place to start is the beer cans. I am assuming you mean outside of the stadium, since Mount doesn't serve beer in the stadium? As far as the "superiority complex" is concerned, again I am not really sure what this means. You said you follow the boards - well read back a while. No one on here is more critical of Mount than Mount posters. What I can't stand is when you have "fans" pop in with the 'poor innocent victim' approach. I know, I know. The JCU fans, in their sunday best, were neatly filing out of the stadium and headed to the chapel to thank god for their good fortune and his grace. They had their prayer books in hand and were singing the lords praises when all of a sudden "WHAM" here comes a 6 pack of Bud!

On the ridiculous rule - I agree. I think it is a dumb rule. But Mount did not put it in place AND you can not tell me that JCU wasn't ready to rush the field if they won. It was a great game. JCU lost, they lost on an unfortunate call - but they lost. Now as for the later comment you have concerning "getting beat by UWW as usual" - at least Mount has played them, while JCU gets comfortable on the couch to watch - every year. If you want to trash talk - fine. However, I recommend getting some trophies, rings, titles, mutiple winning seasons before you start. By my count JCU has won 18 and lost 3 over the last 2 years. And JCU is 111-60 since 1999. Great. JCU has 0 OAC titles, 0 National Titles, and 3 playoff wins. This was a great game - don't ruin it by whining. The rematch is coming - and it could be even better.

Since I am on a roll I will finish. You want to know why Mount won the game? They finished! The last 2 scoring drives are the difference between Champions and second place. JCU had an impressive drive that stalled and they kicked a FG after Mount made a stop at the 3 yard line. Then Mount got the ball and drove 72 yards in 9 plays and scored a touchdown. Champions finish drives. I posted before that drive that Mount needed a drive like they had in the Stagg Bowl against UWW a few years back. And that is exactly what they did. Ballgame. Enjoy the night Raider fans! Safe travels to all -

Whether you think it's a "stupid" rule or not doesn't matter...it's the rule and applies to all.

Congrats to Mount for winning its 23rd straight OAC title! I wonder if any other college/university at any level has won that many conference football titles?

And desertraider...you make valid points. Thanks!

Gents... Not calling it stupid, because I had any rooting interest.  I call it "stupid" because it has no benefit to either the safety of the players, or to adding or allowing for increased competiton.  It seems to me to do the exact opposite.
I will feel this way regardless of whether it's applied in the East, West, North or South.
Congrats to both teams today on a great game and a great season.
