I am surprised you're surprised.

Fair.  I was definitely not surprised they lost.  I was surprised they couldn't execute a PAT I guess.  After watching the rest of the game that's on me though!

Pretty typical, UMU special teams have been suspect the last few years.

The last time the Raiders lost a season opener was 1987 The College of Wooster 17-15

Raider 68

Not surprised by the result. Wheaton was due. The Color man for the game Doug Fairchild, I think, was one of the best I have heard for his knowledge of the game at any level!

Kudos to the Wheaton play by play color man gave a lot of mention to the Raiders program and the video was excellent at least we didn't have to pay to watch like in our conference.

An impressive notch on the belt of Geoff Dartt - program slayer, Mount Union football has not lost back-to-back football games since 1977 and had never lost a playoff game to end one season and the opening game of the next year..

Until today

Hopefully Purple didn't stock up on his Geoff Dartt Fan Club  merch, because no one is going to want that free garbage at next week's home opener.  The way they played today, no one is going to fear playing Mount anymore and that includes high school JV teams.
Looks like he is going to have the same seat at the 2027 family Thanksgiving meal.
It has been the same for so many years now, why break tradition?

This was disappointing but it was a top 5 opponent. Not exactly like dropping a game to Capital.

Not unfair. The other side of it was critical penalties at bad times, questionable coaching and playcall decisions, and a special teams gaffe.

Stop me if you have read that before leading to a Mount loss under this current head coach.

It's not the loss that's disappointing.  It's the 13 penalties, the no energy, the sleepwalking for a half, the bonehead coaching (TO, run on 3rd & 6, TO, punt).  An entire off-season after an embarrassing loss and you get one of the worst halves of Mount football in years?

A young team is going to need some leadership to keep the train from going off of the rails.  Has Geoff ever shown that he's that guy?

Everyone in that building better grow up quick.  Nobody on the field has won anything of significance and are currently the first Mount team to be on a losing streak since the Carter administration

You're forgetting when a defensive coordinator tackled an official after a potentially game changing play, leading to a penalty and a new set of downs.

Things we could say the last time Mount lost an opener.
,,i need $20 to fill my tank and get beer"

,,augustana is the greatest dynasty in football  - ever!"

,,Dude- Reagan told Gorby to tear down the wall! Totally!"

,,Dude! My stereo ate my Maiden cassette!!"

Sorry - trying for some perspective.

Things I liked today.... Defense response play after play. I felt like they were put in tough spots and responded a lot, but penalties... Dline moved well against a good Oline....Maloney threw some good balls out there... Ashby is certainly a guy to go to...I like the creativity to get Minner the ball.

Things I didn't like....Oline needs to get better leverage/position...WRs need to catch balls that hit their hands... Penalties need cut (questionable 'helmet off' unsportsmanlike, but inexcusable offsides/false starts and sideline interference).... Fall on the ball drill will need to happen this week... Play calling can get better (2nd half showed that)... Special teams (return defense, field goal team blocking, first punts we're just ok)

I have a feeling this team will look vastly different in 5-6 weeks with jobs up for grab or getting pushed by younger guys. It's a long season for sure and now you need to go play with a playoff mindset for the rest of the season
