Raider 68

Quote from: D3fanboy on November 06, 2025, 01:46:00 PMSaturday should be telling for the Purple Raiders.  If you are planning on playing in the Stagg Bowl, then we are at the midway point of the season.  I might not agree with the slow-down, conservative style over the past couple of weeks but I can see the value in trying to limit injuries, etc.  But now is the time to ramp things up.

We'll know by the middle of the first quarter just how serious this Mount Union squad is.  Will they sleep walk through the first quarter or two again and let an inferior opponent gain confidence?  Is this team capable of putting together two good halves of football?  might need to do that at some point this season

If "the standard is the standard" then they really need to light up a Marietta team that is scuffling to even be .500.  Will the Raiders play up to their "standard"?  I wish there was more evidence to point that way, but right now I guess I just have to hope that they put it all together for 60 mins

It is time to get playoff ready, play the whole game not just part of it. Coaching is needed to
get ready. Coach L Kehres always had his team ready regardless of the opponent, but not these days
unfortunately.

The Raiders have enough talent to go deep in the playoff, maybe even a trip to Canton. It starts NOW!

I'm just some idiot alum, but this team seems to have a real leadership problem.  Mount hasn't had a complete embarrassment like @Otterbein last year, but I'd argue that 27-17 vs Cap at half is pretty damn close.  Raiders teams of the past were loaded with upperclassmen that knew what it takes to be a national champion.  We don't have that luxury any longer.  I think that the kids are doing what they can, but the slow starts, dips in effort, etc show that it isn't enough.  The coaching staff needs to pick it up.  Messing around with bottom of the barrel OAC teams is not "the standard"

and can we get some students to the game in a week?  there were more dads in the student section than students vs Cap

Ahhh all this BW hate never grows old.
Getting philosophical (we're a Jesuit school after all lol), doesn't BW's very existence actually in a way enhance our enjoyment of the game? Isn't it some grand yin-yang situation? To more fully appreciate our own team, we need a foil, a counterpart, a rival. Someone to hate. An institution so vile, you'd find yourself cheering against even their women's cross country team.
In that light, doesn't it make you want to appreciate them just a little more?

But seriously, screw those guys lol go Polar Bears!

thank God that the Mount program hasn't been in a position to consider BW a "rival" for quite a few decades....I couldn't even imagine

Quote from: Pat Coleman on November 05, 2025, 12:07:34 AMYes, there are semifinalist trophies.

Okay I get finalist trophies but semifinals? How far down the ladder do trophies go? Why not quarterfinalist trophies? It's a slippery slope!

Wonder if it has something to do with being "equivalent" to basketball.  They have had semi-finalist trophies for years, but then of course a semi-finalist is a regional champion in basketball.

Boy don't get me started on certain media outlets calling parts of the D3 Football playoffs "Sweet Sixten" "Elite 8" when those are actually trademarked terms for NCAA basketball

Well, we do this on occasion (along with other equivalent terms), but it's because those are terms that the general public understands and it makes sense to use terms that the public understands.

Look I appreciate LK as much as any Raiders fan, but even he wasn't immune to the occasional flat first half against an inferior opponent. I distinctly remember 2011 game against Capital where we lead 3-0 at half time.

The difference is that this was an anomaly, where as it's a much more regular occurrence under Coach Dartt.

Huh I don't remember you guys ever calling the quarterfinals the "Elite Eight".

The shift to the up-tempo zone read offense with KB at the helm in 2012 was a thing of beauty.

The roller coaster from Micheli (Jorris even) to Seaman/Piloto to KB-Taurice was something else.  Even decent QB play in '10 and '11 and Mount probably has another 3-peat.  Rocco getting an extra year in the current era of extra 5th and 6th years would have been insane

It was 7-7 in Alliance going into the 4th quarter in 2004 against Muskingum (it was awhile ago, but not Ed Sherman long ago), and that was with Zac Bruney at QB.

a game in '04 and a game in '11 with Bruney, Seaman and Piloto at QB (good kids, but not even all-conference types)...a hiccup happens sometimes, but Mount's had a serious bi-weekly case for a handful of years
