How did Mount Union lose to this John Carroll team?

Good question.  They would be probably the 3rd/4th best team in the CCIW with WashU.

Saw on Twitter today that Nick Turner just entered the portal: https://x.com/nickturner102/status/2002546682349957341

Per his Twitter, Kaleb Brown now has 2 FCS offers (Tarleton State and Duquesne).

Any other significant OAC portal entries as of yet?

Will Mount have any receivers left?

I'll compare John Carroll's game on Saturday to the Battle of Fredericksburg (because I'm a nerd lol)
It could have truly been a resounding success.....up until it clearly wasn't and it turned into something very ugly

I'm interested to see how this Stagg Bowl will play out. Knee jerk reaction is based on results, John Carroll, Mount Union, and Wheaton are all probably more or less within a certain variance of each other, but North Central is (on paper) leaps and bounds ahead of the pack

YUCK, Mount didn't lose to a true semi finals quality team.

This is what NCC does to teams. They make you second guess how good your teams really are.

To be fair, both Capital, Ohio Northern and Baldwin Wallace also made me second guess how good my team was this year LOL  :P

Clearly ahead of that pack, but I don't think they are leaps and bounds ahead of UWR or Johns Hopkins.

Weirdly we have 3 common opponents for the Stagg Bowl teams to compare:

Here's the results against common opponents

UWO 14           NCC 45
UWO 21           UWR 17

UW Lacrosse 7     UWR 41
UW Lacrosse 27   NCC 35

Wheaton 21        UWR 46
Wheaton 0          NCC 35

They've had pretty similar results with the obvious exception of UWO.

I think UWR has the size and speed to play with NCC, but NCC is probably still favored.

Keep in mind that UWRF played Lacrosse Sans Haas.  That has significant bearing on that outcome.  Also, NCC had comfortable enough lead in their game vs. LaCrosse that they were able to sub the second team defense in for the last half of the 4th q, in which LaX put up 14 extra points on the 2's.

Any truth to the rumor that Rudolph was still very upset with the playoff loss to JC, and left a big stinky package on GD's roof last night?

hsbsballcoach7

Looking back at the loss to JCU, it took many things to happen for JCU to win....
They had a super senior, FCS transfer QB
Former D1 basketball player, transfer at WR
Other impact senior transfers at TE, DB, etc
Mount missed two kicks (one was really tough) and seemed intent on running the ball inside, key turnovers in the redzone, etc.... All for JCU to win by 3 points.

With some adjustments, Mount will be fine next year. Retain the guys you can and go get more in the portal with talented HS recruits. I will say that I could see Mount becoming a stepping stone for those guys not getting the scholarship offers they believe that they should be with the way college football is now played.

I'm hoping to see a competitive Stagg Bowl!

USee

I think Mount's problem vs JCU was not their defensive performance against D1 transfers. If I had told you they would hold JCU to 10 pts before the game I'm pretty sure most Mount fan would have taken that in a heartbeat. No way anyone thought Mount would only score 7 in that game. I still can't believe it and I watched it.

I hope that you're wrong.  The new college football and the transfer portal is generally disgusting.  I'm all for kids getting their fair share at the highest level, but the "agents" and "advisors" at the D3FB level are the lowest of the low and the vast, vast majority of these kids entering the portal are pretty much ending their playing days the moment that the enter.  It's truly sad, and it is hurting the overall level of play in college football.

D3 could be a jumping off point for a very few players, but there is a reason why these guys are at this level. Get your degree, make lifelong bonds and memories and learn life lessons while playing football is a pretty good deal. D3FB is great football, but I really hope that it doesn't become minor league FCS/D2 football.  For the life of me, I can't imagine how being an impact player at a high level D3 is worse than being a rotational type at a no name D2.  But I'm not a 19 year old with a super cool broccoli hairdo that knows everything.
