One would have to think that Ely and Junior leaving for UCONN was not an overnight thing, this had to have been in action for a while now.  I hope that Mount has a plan to get some new coaches hired very soon.

There aren't exactly a lot of coaches left on staff to be handling this critical recruiting time period.

BillyRayJimBob

Would I be "stupid" to suggest that all branches of the Kehres Coaching Tree be shaken?
There is some seasoned/mature high school "fruit" hanging there. Avon OH readily comes to mind.
I do not know the salary comparisons that would come into play but just throwing it out there.

Similar to what several of you have mentioned, I "Bleed Purple & White" (and my Johns Hopkins doctors still do not know why/understand  ;D ), but if some rare fall activities are scheduled on a Saturday, I will follow the game if I can. If not, no big deal ... "It is only Capital." And then, we see what Capital was able to do and I scratch my head reading the box score. My support of Mount Union Football has not waned, nor will it, but my interest has, somewhat. That make sense?

Received a t-shirt gift from that "Where I am From" company. It touted Mount Union's 13 National Championships. I said, "Chisel it in stone ... Not sure there will be another." I still vividly recall the 1993 Stagg Bowl ... I had to find a friend to watch the game because I couldn't get it. I still have that 1993 D3 National Champions sweatshirt. I probably wear it the least (been 10+ years), because I treasure it the most. I should probably have it mounted in a shadow box and hang it next to my signed Garcon Redskins jersey.
(And the ornament on the Christmas tree that says, "All I want for Christmas is a Purple Raiders [Football] National Championship" should be bronzed for posterity?)

I drove up from Maryland for the JCU game in round three this year. I was also at the game (drove up from Maryland) for the same opponent in the regular season of 2016. If she wasn't 90, I would tell you to "Slap my Mama" for my choices [transgressions].

I "rep" Mount Union in some way shape or form every day ... office accoutrements, car accoutrements, house flags, apparel, etc. ... and I do not see it slowing anytime soon (see the "Bleed Purple and White" comment). But my interests in football is static while my following of other sports is increasing. I bought that b!+c# FloSports for the year because I figured I would "make money" on it ... LOL!
The large flag is now flying for the Purple Raider basketball team. It came down after the JCU football game. I guess that I pulled up my 67-year old panties and got over it.

Long story short, are we going to see the consecutive record of wins against non-conference foes come to an end in 2026 (@Wheaton?)? The Purple Raiders will still likely win the OAC, make the playoffs, and get a home game in round 1. But will it be a next step to becoming, what has been eluded to in the past, Augustana?

I hope not. There are leaders and football minds that eclipse mine in the 44601 zip code that will figure this crazy $#!+ (portal and NIL) out! Or they just continue to save me money on UMU Bookstore National Championship merch.

Thank you for your indulgence.
Please feel free to recline your seats for the next 8-month "flight." There may be turbulence, so I suggest you keep your seatbelt fastened. D3Fanboy will be around shortly to tell you your drink order ... God bless him.
And Dr. Acula will provide perspective via video (he is too down to earth to board the flight).

I actually don't see a reason why Mount would need to stay within the LK coaching tree for the OC/DC hires.  Mount needs some creativity and energy out of the new OC, the offense has been stagnant, predictable and pretty boring for the past few seasons.  Changing that should be the first priority.  If you want to stay in the LK tree, then there is a youngish coach out in CA that won a couple of Gagliardi's that I would be calling non-stop

If your HC is going to be Mr Personality, then your other coaches better be guys that bring the juice.  I think Ely did a pretty good job overall with the defense, but I would like to see a little bit more energy from the DC as well.  The past handful of seasons has been a lot of "going through the motions" type looks from the Raiders.  It'd be nice to see some fire back and, I don't know, actually blow out the OAC teams in the first half

But we all know that it will likely be internal hires/promotions like the last time the OC left, and we will do the same song and dance in '26.  Peak in September because our talent is better than yours and then fade in the 2nd half.  I wish I had more confidence in the Mount administration to handle this, but I don't know how anyone could at this point

While reading about the assistance coaches leaving for greener pastures,  the classic rock station was playing
Godzilla by Blue Oyster Cult.  Now I know the lyrics by heart because I love the song, but I swear I heard:
"Oh No, Geoff Dartt has got to go
Go go Good Riddance, yeah."
I heard that throughout the whole song.

I'm afraid you're correct, BillyRayJimBob, I'd probably miss the flight!  I've got at least a dozen more basketball games followed by at least 40 baseball games before I even remember football exists in Alliance.  They've beaten the give-a-damn level to an all-time low for me.  I will always root for Mount in every sport at all times, but how much I interject it into my daily life varies year to year, sport to sport.

It took North Central about 2 minutes to score, River Falls goes 3 and out.  They have no chance of winning tonight no matter how fast the offense goes.

This may get ugly quickly.

Kappas was on a track to be a very successful college coach.  But he chose to become the HC at Louisville and move to (I think) his wife's hometown and raise a family.  He seems to be doing exactly what he wants to do and not messing with the portal or us dummies complaining about 11-1 seasons.  Right now it seems like he made the right choice.

going to be tough to match the public school pension and pay if he's got an administration job at Louisville

UWRF defense isn't going to last very long with NCC running all over them and the UWRF offense having quick drives

When Kappas was at Mount, he paired with Vince, was creative and aggressive... Things that have been lacking lately. Heck Kappas was a great OC AND DC!

Do you think Dartt bought a ticket for the game or is he at home in his
La-Z-Boy muttering to himself:
"That could have been us, that should  have been us, I'm a better coach than either of those two!  Ain't that right teddy?"
While squeezing his teddy bear tightly.

NCC should be up 21-3.  Should pound the rock but yet, 2 throws and a punt.  This is how upsets happen.  NCC is the better 1.5 quarters in.
