Quote from: cuyahogacuse on September 08, 2026, 05:40:29 PMWhich one of you will be the first to credit Wheaton? Seems I read that the difference between these two teams was 66-7 or something of that sort before the game. (Hat top to the guy who called out that ridiculous take.)

This was a game that was fairly even. Except this time it was Mount Union who had to make the long bus trip into unfamiliar territory. Both teams made mistakes. Both teams had bunches of newbies in the lineup.

Mount Union hurt themselves with tons of undisciplined penalties. Wheaton hurt themselves with red zone turnovers. You're going to see what you want to see on the overturned catch at the 4. I was surprised it was overturned, but not  shocked. It was that close.

If #12 could catch the ball, Mount Union has three more touchdowns. If Wheaton finishes off drives into the red zone, there's two more scores.

It was a classic football game between two very good teams that should be playing ball into November and probably December as well.

Good luck to you guys. We'll be hoping you go 9-1. (We'll take all the NPI points we can get.)

Hats off to Wheaton.  They jumped on Mount and gave themselves a little room to have first game mistakes.  I was certainly not blaming the refs.  Wheaton deserved the win 100%, I wonder if Dartt didn't realize that the kick got bumped up an hour?

Geoff Dartt is scheduled to be on air, I'm sure he will say "poise" about a million times and dance around every softball question...but what can you expect

"some understand the standard...some don't"....what?

"this can either help us or hurt us"

Grove City is still a very good opponent, they want to win the line of scrimmage but they have playmakers at WR.

OL needs to play as a unit, needs better communication

our guys are good at receiving coaching, some have stepped up in practice

the pressure is always there, you feel terrible....and then it's how did this happen?  you have to look yourself in the mirror.  I'm sure that there's people that don't like me because we haven't won a national championship, and I'm very aware of that....but the only people that I truly care about are my family, the coaches and the players

if you lose its the end of the world....well its not the end of the world, but the expectation is to win....it was the 36th loss since 1986.  We all need to be better because we are all responsible for that loss

We all had to know that the dominance that Mount has had over the last 4 decades (I'm counting since '86) in the conference and nationally would eventually come to an end.  All of the records were eventually going to end.  We had to miss the Semi Finals, we had to miss the quarter finals, we had to lose an opening season game.  Knowing it doesn't make it easier, but we did know it.

Last week, regardless of their legitimacy, we cannot have 13 penalties and 6 go for first downs.  That single handedly gives the opponent an easy game.  Like walking 6 batters.  "Here's head start"  "Free points"
Also dropped passes, no excuse.  Coach G probably losing his mind.

Defense looks solid.  I felt they were dealt some bad hands a played really well.  I felt like they made the opponent fight for every yard, minus the penalties.  Definitely the offense contributed to the defenses struggles.

The opponent played an exceptional game and did not make many mistakes, which was required to win.  For all of the mistakes Mount made they still had the opportunity to win.  I do feel like they lost the game more the opponent won it.  It wasn't snatched away, it was handed away.

This week... Good news is, it aint over.  We can run the table and make the playoffs and prove the machine is gone, it was just waiting on some parts.  They've been on back order since the pandemic and then the were stuck in the straight of hormuz.  Lets go out this weekend, beat down the Wolverines at home.  Be crisp, efficient, and execute.  Catch every ball, make every tackle, keep the penalties down and the emotions in check.  Business on offense and controlled chaos on D.

While the Mount chatter is dominant - per usual - did anyone catch the Berg game? Had a Maryville player punch a Berg student in the endzone. Apparently, charges were pressed and LE involved. I have video - but have no clue how to post it here. I will try. Nevermind. I miss the old site (sorry Pat).

Oh my gosh -- the old Post Patterns from 2005?

I didn't find a video in an immediate search, but I saw Heidelberg's headline:
https://bergathletics.com/news/2026/9/5/football-berg-rolls-with-the-punches-in-win-over-maryville.aspx

That's what I would have done if I were writing a story and wanted to reference something like that without actually printing it.

I have a video on my phone from a text message. It is from a Berg student

It worked, clear as day.

Wow. Simply wow.

I want to see a pissed off, focused football team today. I would rather see a week one loss than a week 15 loss.

That's about as embarrassing as it gets. Getting worked over all game long and let another student's words provoke you into doing something stupid. I can only hope this classless action doesn't tarnish the entire program's reputation.

Edit: talk about ironic...the guy is majoring in Criminal Justice.

Yep! I think as UMU fans we're both allowed to hold our team to unreasonably high standards and still acknowledge they are unrealistic.

Say what you want about Coach Dartt (which I know you do LOL) but you have to give him credit for holding himself accountable and not shying away from the standard.

The defense - on this first drive - looks slow and confused. Nice pressure on 3rd at own 13. But they need to show some of that on the GC side of the 50. A 9:20 drive to start the game isnt the sigh of relief I was hoping for.
