My assessment so far is that Mounts isnt big and they are not fast. In the past the lack of size was balanced with blazing speed and aggression. They dont have that. They look overmatched.

The offense needs a power runner. The line is not overpowering and Minner runs small. Have not seen any passing yet - 8 mins left in half - except a 2yd completion.

And I am not busting on Minner. He is outside the edge - not between the tackles. They ran him between tackles like he was Logan Nemeth on the first drive

A pass! Late. Across the middle. Behind. Picked.

Quote from: mucgrad06 on Today at 07:30:12 AMI want to see a pissed off, focused football team today. I would rather see a week one loss than a week 15 loss.

That's what I was hoping for too, not looking like to right now, or they just don't have the talent they typically do

I don't know if I have seen so much as a crossing pattern run by the receivers.

On the run Mahoney made down the GC side (about 2:20 in 2nd) #18 was wide open at the 5 - no one near him. He didnt even look.

The standard needs to be dragged out behind the shed and ended. There is no intimidation. No swagger. Down 10-7 at half and it feels worse.

The program has been killed with a Dartt.

So far I see a team that is undisciplined. Too many penalties to extend GC drives. The D is not setting the tone - they are reacting. We are arriving to the ball late, slow, and soft. Their WRs are open and the QB is not under pressure. The game is 10-7 but GC has dominated all aspects. Did Mount just start practice last week? I mean they look unprepared.

I think the better question is when's the last time they looked prepared against a (hypothetical) inferior team?

I don't see anyone sporting any of Purple's free "Dartt Fan Club" merch at the game.
Was so hoping the Mount announcers would finish that Dartt Thanksgiving meal story after the National Anthem.

WRMUalum13

Boy regardless of preparation UMU just doesn't seem to have the superior athleticism we're used to. Letting GCC botch a field goal and run for a first down is just crazy to think about.

Last time Mount started 0-2? Last time Mount fired a HC? Last time they fired a HC during the season?

We need to hire an Offensive Coordinator!  Oh, wait....
12-0 = 13

I do random games notes for D3 soccer games.  I added Mount to my rotation for today.  These are my notes.  Really, don't know  much about football so take it with a grain....

SC.

American Football.  At 1:30.   The loss against Wheaton last week snaps Mount Union's season-opening win streak of 38 and a regular season win streak of 85.  And while we are not entitled to guaranteed opening season wins or regular season wins.... We are.  So now that's done with, we  start with a win today. Mount in their All Black, and Grove City in White.   Let me just say from the outset, I really have no real insight into football.  I watch, I enjoy and I support the @PurpleRaiders.  Appreciate some Grace for a Raider that's just supporting their alma mater.  So GC has a good series.... lots of running game, that leads to a field goal. 0-3 Grove City.  Mount gets the ball at kickoff and gets a good return to the 40 to start their possession.  In 4 or 5 plays, Mount is down at the 30.  Looks like its raining in Alliance Oh.  Hard to tell the crowd, but the home side, which is covered, looks well full.  Maybe its being at home, maybe its the burden of being unbeaten, or maybe its something footbally that I don't understand, but compared to last week, this team looks like they are here to play.  Regardless, they cant punch it in and get stopped on 4th and goal from inches.  I don't understand why go down the middle .  The space  is out wide, no?  And again, kill ourselves with penalties at bad times.  Think its like they are now playing scared, especially that everyone they play thinks they are vulnerable.  Well, Mount defense holds Grove City and they have to punt.  8 left in the second quarter.  Mount starts at the 14.  First play and gets 20 yards.  Running game seems to be working?  Another issue from last week a tipped ball leads to an interception.  First down from their 30 for GC.  I can only speak in soccer terms, but it looks to me that Mount is trying to force the game because they are a bit desperate to get a touchdown.  I know patience is not necessarily a thing maybe in football, but they need to be more methodical and .... patient rather than forcing it.  Fortunately, Mount holds and Grove is 3 and out.  Mount with 3 minutes in the quarter and start on their 30.  And hot dog, Mount gets a touchdown with under 2 minutes.  And the PAT is good.  7-3 Mount Union.  Maybe the TD will settle us down... Another penalty and now with 29 seconds leads to a play that is under review for a Grove City TD.  It was ruled out, but Grove on the next play, scores to go ahead 10.3.  And now halftime.  Maybe halftime Mount will regroup and come out in the 2nd half.  I think I should stop watching this game as it is making me very anxious.  Cool thing at this Flo Sports is that they are doing a halftime on Mount winning one of their 1996 National Championship.    Pretty cool to see.  Seriously, no real insight into the team, but bobble on the kickoff so not a great return.  Pass for an interception and now Grove city is on the march.  First play is a 20 yard run.  All that looked like nerves?  Fortunately Mount D gets a pick in the endzone.  Gets the ball back from the 20.  Lets see if we get something going here.  Forget it.  Go 3 and out.  I don't know if I just want it to be so, but hope springs eternal before the games start.  I am done watching today, another pick and Grove City at the Mount 25.  I am going to stop watching and calling it a day.  I can't watch anymore.  I think you have to go back to the early 90s for a Mount Union team that lost 2 in a row, and it totally looks like that to me ...
