MUC 2008

Quote from: Dr. Acula on October 17, 2026, 04:08:53 PMSo much for the starters playing sparingly in the second half.  They're just trying to just hold on to what's somehow a 24-16 lead in Bexley.  At some point you're not playing down to the level of mediocre teams and you yourself are just a pretty average team.  If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck...

It Dartt's like a duck.

If Mount holds on to win, would this be considered signature Geoff Dartt victory?

Two score game now with 8:48 left. Nothing is decided about this game.

Yes, this is indeed a signature Geoff Dartt victory.

Now - will Mount Union go DOWN in the rankings for the third straight week after a WIN?  That ain't easy to do.

Good thing they don't have The Little Sister's of the Poor scheduled before
Baldwin Wallace or you would be looking at a 3 loss team BEFORE that big game.

I'm not a mathematician, but one would have to think that Maryville upsetting Trinity would be an unexpected bump to Heidelberg's NPI (and BW's slightly). Rose-Hulman vs Hanover will be a big one next week for the Berg's SOS

Kudos to Grove City for picking up another W.

Looking at season stats this morning.  Six games in Mount has two guys with more than one sack on the season.  In 2021 Duke Hill topped the team with 5.5 sacks on the season.  We might be lucky to hit that number for the leader this year (Gibson has 3 sacks).  The last four seasons thanks to Brown and Moore they had at least one guy with double digit sacks each season including one year they had three (those two plus Factor).  Mount is ranked 5th in the OAC in scoring defense at 21.5 ppg allowed.

Maloney pushed his passing yds/gm out over 316 ypg now.  He's easily leading the conference there.  Bubonics has been very efficient for BW with 22 TD passes and only 2 picks.  Two good RB, efficient QB and the defense allowing the fewest points in the OAC it may be now or never for the Jackets against Mount.

I'm in no way advocating to bench Minner, but he's at 4.6 yds/carry and Bokman is at 7.7 yds/carry.  Bo got a lot more touches yesterday than last week so that was a good sign.  Again, not saying tell Minner to grab some bench, but Bokman should be at least getting even split IMO.

I've been wondering about the Minner/Bokman split moving forward. Minner just doesn't look as explosive or quick as he was last year. I hear you on the Dline. They are good players, but nobody is getting pressure consistently. That gives QBs all day to scan the defense. I haven't watched the Oline, but I also feel like as a unit they haven't moved guys like our units have in the past.

Offense started hot and then decided to turn the ball over.  Repeatedly.  The defense and special teams scored three (3) times in the first 3-minutes of the third quarter to end the anxiety.

IMO, the Mount DL is actually pretty good, with actual depth for the first time in forever.  The problem is that they are all more interior-type linemen than your typical edge, pass rush type.  Teams realize this and are firing up 44 pass attempts per game.  Lack of pressure/lack of negative plays is the defense's biggest problem so far.  No Rossy or Kaleb type on the defense is pretty evident.  That would have been something to look for in the portal, but we're still trying to "figure out how to turn it on"

In Minner's defense, he had a 50 yard rush to start the Cap game taken away by a Mount penalty...shocking.  Bokman should 100% be the main guy, but Minner definitely has a place in the Mount offense.  He's shown good hands out of the backfield.  If Mikey is feeling healthier (fingers crossed) and Mount gets back into the RPO game with the QB actually being a running option, Minner will thrive (so will Bo).

In agreement here -- seems like there is definitely a role for both of these guys in the backfield and having a versatile guy like Minner whom maybe you can motion out into a slot position at times has to be a benefit for an offense.

Love them both in the backfield.  The Raiders need playmakers on offense for sure.  Mount might have one of the top slot WR in the country right now, its the outside WR (X if you will) that Mount needs to find right now.  It's just tough to figure out which 5 skill guys you want to use if we're typically going to roll out 1 TE.

RB1 Bokman
Z/Y - Ashby (why are we taking him off of the field ever?)
TE

So now you only have two spots left.

It could be:

Minner and Harris - but then you're losing OP Knox, whose been dynamic

Minner and Knox - tough to use 150 lb Knox on the outside

Harris and Knox, no RB2 - probably going to be the most used option...need Harris to step up

Remove the TE - Minner, Knox & Harris - not bad, OL needs to dominate

Thankfully, I think we're done with the goofy 3 RB sets from week 1 @ Wheaton

Big weekend for the Berg, two week stretch of ONU and Etta, which both I think have good chances of giving the Berg a second lost.  You Mount fans gotta be Polar Bear fans this weekend.  If the berg wins these two, I dont think Cap or Wilma will be taking us down, giving us hopefully our second playoff bid ever, and closing your chance at least for the OAC title.  Good news for ya'll, is it seems like Heidelberg always falls apart on big games when the season seems to be going well  ;D
