I mean, here's the cool part regarding that Friday game v. Rochester.  Opening weekend of college football season aligned perfectly for viewing purposes in my case, and here's how:

Thursday Night: Illinois (grad alma mater) v. UAB on Big Ten Network
Friday Night: CWRU (undergrad) v. Rochester on Flo Sports
Saturday Morning: Houston (law school) v. Oregon State on ESPN
Saturday Night: Central Michigan (grad alma mater) v. New Mexico on FS1

WHAT PERFECT TIMING!!!

Did the networks consult with you before scheduling? Lol

A few things on the depth chart surprised me.

1) The FY starter at TE must be a super frosh.  He beat out a D1 transfer at that position.

2) Our Oline appears to have good bulk, but lacks experience.  Four of the five starters are sophomores.  We'll see how they gel.

3) Sergio Beltran is penciled in at 2nd string WR, but given how WRs are rotating in and out all game, he'll probably get a good a large number of snaps.

4) Dline has experienced players, but seems a bit undersized.

5) I noticed 260 lb. FB Meschede isn't listed on the two deep; I can only assume he'll be brought in for short yardage "Fridge" type plays.

6) Our ST specialists all look stout; Jeff Ramsey is obviously a good ST coordinator.

The schedule is a crap shoot.  I suspect we'll be favored against St. Francis, Hiram, Thiel, Waynesburg, and Allegheny.  We'll probably be underdogs against W&J, Westminster, Shenandoah, and Grove City.  Rochester is a toss up.

We'll need to hope that all of the dice rolls land in our favor.

I am encouraged by the fact that we finished 2nd in the PAC in total offense last season with a backup QB.

With Filips back, we should be optimistic, but we really don't know how that new Oline will hold up.

I feel like this is an important point that is often missed. Guys who are successful at the higher levels are generally not the guys who transfer down.

True -- not every transfer was even on scholarship at their D-I school. Obviously, lots of transfers do have an impact at the D-III level, but not everyone who qualifies as a "D-I transfer" can be painted with a broad brush.

I went out and watched Hiram practice a couple times in fall camp. Given the current state of Oberlin football, I think Hiram will be disappointed if this isn't at least a two score win. But we shall see!

The position group on the roster is TE/H-B I suspect the 2-deep format didn't allow that many letters for the position.

Based on body type, Brian Renshaw Jr. Fy. 5-11 220 and Will Maisenbacher So. 6-3 230, I suspect that the two will be used differently. Renshaw H-B behind the line as a blocking back (which is how the position should be called) and Maisenbacher TE on the line both as a blocker and receiver. They aren't first team and back-up.

The 4 OL SOs, as FY were behind two all-PAC selections and third who was a two-year starter after transferring from D2 E Stroudsburg. This unit has the potential to play as a unit for two seasons.

DL is bigger than 2025 when starting DEs were converted LBs at 205 and 215. This season's posted starters are 220 and 230 and b/u 235 and 245. Returning NG starter is 255 b/u is 280. The SO starting DE only played in one game as FY.

CWRU returns the most from 2025 of PAC contenders. Add to that Filips potential over DeTillio and I'm pretty psyched.

Westminster seems to have lost the most.

Hansen has CWRU 28-17 over Rochester.

Massey CWRU 28-21
