CWRU 36 Westminster 29

Gritty win for Spartans. Two big Titan plays in 3Q, 85 yd KOR and 98 yd run plus another TD and a FG, put them behind 29-14 early in 4Q. But Spartans scored 22 unanswered points for the win.

Spartans were led by SR (with potential extra year) Pierce Olsen, making his first start, who was 23-36-1 64% 235 1 TD passing and one Rushing. Those aren't Filips' numbers, but serviceable.

DeTillio was the red zone specialist with 3 TD's totalling all of 4 yds.

Pass D had 11 PBUs. Gymfi led with 4 and Kavcic 3. 4 others had 1 each.

I am guessing that we will be favored in the next four games

Better than the four teams you've played. They have one win between them.

Next Hiram faces 2-2 Geneva who monkey-stomped Bethany 42-14. Beat them and you'll have something to brag about.

Sorry - all enthusiasm over the first 4-0 start in 40 years will be suspended!

Celebrate already one more win than 2025. Celebrate beating Thiel who won in 2025.

I like the trolling, but if you have not watch Hiram this year, then you are missing out.

Sure they beat no one, but it was how. They physically beat them. As long as they stay healthily they can compete.

You mentioned Hiram can brag if they beat Geneva. They don't have to.

The next step in development if playing competitive football in games they are not expected to win.

They absolutely can beat Geneva, Wayensburg, Allgheny, and St. Vincent. They are not yet at the CWRU, W&J, Grove level.

I leave you with this from Bobby Bowden:

The Four Stages of Building a Program
• Stage 1: You lose big (the team is heavily outmatched while a new culture is set).
• Stage 2: You lose close (the talent gap closes, but mistakes still cost games).
• Stage 3: You win close (the team learns how to finish tight games and execute under pressure).
• Stage 4: You win big (the program becomes a consistent powerhouse and wins championships).

Who woke you up? I suspect that you regularly post under a different screen name.

You clearly like trolling.

I watched the first half of Hiram/SFU off and on. How many Hiram games have you watched this year and why?

Two of their four opponents, Oberlin and SFU, are seriously undermanned. Each has barely roster numbers of an NFL team, if that. SFU has only about 10 players who played in a college game previously. More than half their roster are FY. For Oberlin 40% of 43-man roster are FY. I wouldn't brag about Hiram beating them physically.

The initial post asked whether Hiram was good. If as you say, they aren't up to CWRU, GC, and W&J, they aren't "good." Do you disagree?

Did they deserve some credit for improving "yes." and I stated they should celebrate improvements.

I give them a shot at beating Waynesburg and St Vincent, but not Geneva or Allegheny

Here is a question for the board. Do PAC teams typically stay in hotels the night before the games?  Ie: SFU to CWRU is about 3.5 hours drive.
I know the NEC at one time had a rule that teams couldn't fly to away games and could only stay one night in a hotel, as to not give an advantage. Is there anything like that?  Are they allowed to, but is it uncommon?

The Third Division

I know that when Carnegie Mellon left for the Centennial last year, their head coach noted that overnight hotel stays was part of the reason for joining that conference so that if they can make the playoffs again they can be accustomed to that type of travel.

it was also because Carnegie is in the UAA which is the most division 1-esque d3 conference. (schools all over country basically)

CWRU to SFU is the outlier. The remainder of the schools are an hour or less from I-79. SFU is only half an hour further. So I don't believe that overnight stays are necessary. SFU/CWRU would only be about a 12 hour round trip with game.

3rdD, not doubting that you heard that justification, but except for 2023 and 2024 when PAC only played conference games,[I just discovered your post on this from April 2024]  Tartans since the pandemic played at Whitworth in 2021, at RPI in 2022, and even after joining CC, played at Chicago in 2025, and this year at Berry and Catholic. Do they really need more than one overnight trip a year to be familiar with that travel?

You mentioned their UAA membership. The conference isn't quite "all over the country", but from WashU and Chicago in the west to Emory in south the and Brandeis and NYU in the northeast. Still it's quite a wide geographic dispersion. In the CC, the administration has to find three non-conference games each season. Perhaps they saw 3 outside games as allowing a similar geographic dispersion in football. And also providiing better competition, since the bottom third of PAC is just awful.

Frankly, the PAC is one of the few conferences in the country that are nearly geographically perfect.

OAC and LL are also pretty compact, but only 9 and 8 teams respectively for football vs PAC 12.

Some NE conferences may likewise be compact, but fewer teams than PAC.
