Well, obviously it's going to take some time for SFU to build a program.  Good to see CWRU win on their 200th anniversary homecoming.

Given that building a D3 program is entirely different from building a D1 program, this isn't a "rebuild."  It's a brand new build.

Yes, recruiting a whole new roster, but not having to do all of the background/logistical stuff you need to do when starting a program from scratch.

If it's all right with BleedPurple, let me point out that SFU's pass rush was a bright spot. Especially when it was reported that D played 8 FY. Olsen was 11-19, that's 23 attempts if you add in the 4 sacks they had. They forced an intentional grounding and had on official QBH. Not officially in the stats, they also forced several throwaways.

I also like how the Red Flash is in included in the Red Wolf logo.

Jake Kavcic had a busy Saturday. Earning d3fb.com ST POW
"Kavcic blocked a punt on the opening drive to set up the first CWRU touchdown of the game two plays later[scored by his twin bother Andy, who scored 3more on the day]. He added a safety later in the game, tackling the Saint Francis punter in the end zone with 9:34 left in the third to increase CWRU's lead to 29-3.

Kavcic was also active in the return game, bringing back two kicks for an average of 39.0 yards per return (with a season-long 54-yard return) and three punts for an average of 13.3 yards (with a long of 15).

Defensively, the strong safety had five tackles (one solo), including one for loss, and intercepted his first pass of the campaign. Kavcic leads the team this season with 32 tackles (27 solo) and seven pass breakups, with three tackles for loss, two sacks, one interception, and a forced fumble, while averaging 23.8 yards per kick return and 13.6 yards per punt return."

Saturday's Match-ups

Conference leaders at 3-0, W&J and Allegheny. Ya gotta guess Gators get got.

Best-of-the-rest contenders, Geneva and Westminster, are closely matched. I give edge to Titans.

Battle of the Saints, SVC and SFU. Bearcats put up big numbers twice. Red Wolves have yet to score more than 10 in any game. SFU doesn't get its first d3 win this week.

CWRU and Grove City are prohibitive favorites over Waynesboro and Hiram, respectively.

IMO

D3 Poster

After looking at first half schedules, the preseason poll still looks good.  I'll split my vote for conference champs between Grove City and W&J. Interesting games coming up in the weeks ahead.

Gotta go with W&J over Allegheny.

CWRU and Grove City will each win handily.

Westminster will win over Geneva.

SFU might get a win at some point this season, but their offense and depth are limited.

CWRU has tough tests at the end with Grove City and Allegheny back to back.

Is there any chance that they could get an at large bid to the playoffs if they manage to win out and finish 9-1 (which, of course, would require wins in those last two games I mentioned)?

Really? Preseason poll gave Westminster 3 1st place votes at #3 ahead of #4 CWRU. Titans are 1-4 and lost to CWRU 36-29. If Waynesburg hadn't missed a short FG with less than 2 minutes left, they'd be 0-5.

If 9-1 Spartans got a bid,it would be outmatched against a low seed. I'd rather they play in one of the opendorse bowls in Canton.

St Francis has its first lead of the season. 7-0 over SVC
Edit
Red Wolves score most points of the year (14) and give up the fewest (17).

Wait.

There's a D3 bowl game in Canton?  Really?  Please tell me more details.

For those that don't know, the only bowl game in CWRU history was the Jan 1, 1941 Sun Bowl following the 1940 season (a 7-1 season for the Western Reserve Red Cats, that included a 15-14 win over the Case Rough Riders in front of 15K fans at League Park in Cleveland).

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1941_Sun_Bowl

In that one bowl game, the Western Reserve Red Cats beat Arizona State 26-13 (yes, THAT Arizona State).  Incidentally, ASU back then was the "Bulldogs," not the "Sun Devils."  They were champions of the Border Conference that year.  Western Reserve was champion of the "Big Four" conference (Case, Western Reserve, John Carroll, Baldwin-Wallace).

Not until the 1970 season would ASU win a bowl game.

At least WE can say that we have an "undefeated" bowl record!

 ;)
